SHOULD NURSERY STAFF HAVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION?
In recent years around the world, more attention has been drawn to the early childhood education and its importance. This has led to different debates from different educationalists and government as to whether a qualification is indeed needed in nursery schools today.
While some educationalists have pointed to the great importance a qualified nursery staff would bring in to the nursery system, others have argued that nursery school with qualified staff have little or no impact on the children’s development.

So, there are a lot of benefits of nursery education.
In the article “What Is So Important About Childhood Education” researchers found out that “Children taught at an early age usually benefit in the following ways: improved social skills, less or no need for special education instruction during subsequent school years, better grades, and enhanced attention spans.” Likewise, “some researchers have concluded that young children enrolled in pre-school programs usually graduate from high school, attend college, have fewer behavioural problems, and do not become involved with crime in their adolescent and young adult years.” (https://www.educationcorner.com).

In England, nurseries work within the early years' foundation stage framework (EYFS). The EYFS was introduced by the British government in 2007 and it is a professional status for all practitioners of nursery education in England.
Since it has been established that the nursery schools help builds the holistic child foundation for their lifelong journey, it is then safe to agree that a qualified staff is indeed needed to help manage a nursery school to ensure a positive outcome on children’s learning. This is the reason why most successive governments have focused on improving staff qualifications believing that these are important for children’ learning.
Most countries have set a qualification guideline as to who can become a nursery staff. In Britain, for example, a qualified nursery staff means a person who has a degree and at least a GCSE C grade in English, Mathematics and Science.
