In 2014, I went to Morocco. It was one of the most wonderful country that I ever saw. The beauty of the landscape was unbelievable, the desert, the mountains, and more. However, the prettiest aspect that impressed me the most was the strong culture of Morocco that unified this country. So, when I heard that I needed to interview someone for this project, I, instantly, think of one of my godmother’s friends who has immigrated to Canada 12 years ago, when he was 17 years old. In other words, he is an immigrant because he came to Canada to live here. His name is Anasse El Ouartassi, and he is a Moroccan.
Fist of all, Anasse El Ouartassi is a male and he is born in Morocco in 1988. Now, Anasse is 29 years old, and he is, today, working as an

When he arrived in Canada, Anasse said that the three most cultural chocks between Canada, and Morocco was the notion of the time, the values of the religion, and the temperatures. First, the time’s notion is different, because the time is not stressful for the Moroccans, they take their time to accomplish their tasks and they do not have any pressure, while when he immigrated in Canada, he discovered that each second are calculated, and that everything should be done as fast as possible. The second difference is the values based on religion. Indeed, in Moroccans are really religious and a lot of things are based on it, but in Canada, religion is not that important. For instance, in Morocco most of the population are going into a 2 times a day Mosque, and they are doing their five prayers per day. In Canada, Churches are becoming less and less popular, and used. Such as in the previous paragraph said, in Morocco, 99% of them are Muslims, so it is a really religious country, while Canada is not. Finally, the other difference was the climate. In Morocco, the climate is hot and dry, with the desert, oasis while in Canada it is cold and the winter is really long. There are similarities and differences between the Moroccan and the Canadian clothes code. First, both cultures use occidental clothes. However, the Moroccans have traditional …show more content…
First of all, Morocco is located below the Spain, and it is separated from Spain by approximately 30 kilometers of water (“Distance Ceuta to Algeciras,” n.d.). The neighboring country to the right of Morocco is Algeria, and at the left of Morocco there is the Atlantic Ocean. (“Maps of the World,” n.d.) Moreover, the principal religion in Morocco is Muslim. (“Morocco Facts,” 2017) Indeed, an estimation shows that 99% people of the Moroccan population are Muslim. (“Morocco Facts,” 2017) Furthermore, Morocco is led, since 1999, by the King Mohammed VI. (“Morocco Facts,” 2017) However, Morocco is a constitutional monarchy, with an elected parliament. (“The Government and Political System in Morocco.,” 2017) The King of Morocco has a big part of the decision in the legislative, and executive powers (religious, foreign policy, military). (“The Government and Political System in Morocco.,” 2017) However, the King’s power is regulated by the Government. (“The Government and Political System in Morocco.,” 2017) Indeed, King Mohammed VI’s decisions are regulated by the Government of Morocco, such as he can not choose “political leaders or put in place public policies” by himself. (“The Government and Political System in Morocco.,” 2017) For instance, the legislative power is regulated by the government and the parliament, and the executive power is only regulated by

It is difficult enough to visit another country for an extended period of time, let alone wanting to live there permanently. After years of struggling with expired visas and passports and being sly about paying for necessary amenities, the Bangladeshi family thought seeking asylum in Canada would be better for them, especially since the oldest daughter, Aisha, was searching for a good college to study medicine at. “You forget. You forget you don’t really exist here, that this really isn’t your home. One day, we said, we’d get the paperwork right. In the meantime we kept going. It happens. All the time” (Budhos, p. 8). Their “home” felt even more foreign after September 11th. Being Muslim, they knew they would not be accepted. They felt threatened and trapped, so the plan to escape to Canada commenced, but tragedy struck when they found out Canada was “full” and could not take any more immigrants. With their dreams crushed and their father detained, Nadira and Aisha re...
My cultural identity, is Haitian American. My parents come from a country of beautiful landscape and valleys of the hidden treasures of knowledge, diverse people, and rustic towns. My parents walked up steep plateaus for water, laid in grassy plains for peace, and dive into the sea for cooling in Haiti’s humid heat. Although, I come from a culture of deep history, the first country to gain independence in the result of a successful slave rebellion, my parents knew the plague of suffering Haiti’s battle with will not recover through the poverty, unemployment, and illiteracy. As Haiti fought through its demons, my parents fought to provide plentiful opportunity for their family and immigrated to the United States of America.
In such a multicultural world, being knowledgeable and understanding of not only your cultural background, but that of others is essential. Building my awareness on cultures different from my own, and how it shapes an individual’s identity, will foster my personal and professional development. Subsequently, I conducted a cultural interview with an individual whose cultural background differed from my own. Several similarities and differences between our cultures were apparent in the interview, specifically in the areas of race, ethnicity, language, values, and worldview.

In conclusion, Canada has come a long way in promoting the integration of immigrants socially. The country is making progress integrating immigrants economically, and much needs to be done before the same can be said politically. What is certain, is that the immigrant’s path of integration may be a slow process, and the Canadian government has been slow to propel it… but the future looks bright, and Canada is on the right track.
Multiculturalism and the Canadian identity. Introduction What is the Canada Tax Code? What is a Canadian emigrant? Canada, to employ Voltaire's analogy, is nothing but “a few acres of snow”.
I conducted an interview with Barbara Schauland, MS, Rehabilitation Counselor, Branch Office Manager, regarding her experiences working with culturally diverse clients in the field of vocational rehabilitation. Immigration is one of the most trending topics in the presidential campaign, generating furious debate over the situations that America faces. Whether it be deporting illegal immigrations, granting them a form of amnesty, or building a wall between the United States and Mexico, the immigration process is constantly deliberated. A total of 300,000 jobs were created in the December of 2015. However, there is a constant argument about the income distribution, with the amount of jobs that are supposedly being lost to immigrants. At the top of the social classes, wages are increasing. In the middle and bottom strata, wages are stagnate. However, there is more complexity in order to understand how immigrants are truly impacting our economy and our lives.
At a young age, my teachers and parents taught me to believe that I could do and accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I grew up thinking that I was unstoppable and that the only limit to my achievements was the sky. However, during my second year in high school, I began to realize that I was not as unstoppable as I had thought. I began to experience the consequences of my parent’s decision of bringing me to the United States illegally. Among those consequences were, not being able to apply for a job, obtain a driver’s license or take advantage of the dual enrollment program at my high school, simply because I did not possess a social security number. I remember thinking that all of my hard work was in vain and that I was not going to
Banting noted that some Canadians fear multiculturalism will bring, “…challenges to historic cultures, anxieties about Islam, and fears about insecurity,” (797). As people migrate from one cultural or religious backgrounds, maintaining the identity of the host country becomes difficult. Young children born interact with the immigrants and they could easily emulate foreign cultures thereby putting the historic cultural identity of Canadians at risk of erosion. Winter Elke warned that multiculturalism is changing to give too much preference to the immigrants thereby risking it to become a minority affair (638). Therefore, the relationship between national the majority of Canadians and immigrants need rethinking. Erosion of other cultures as immigrants introduce new ways or adapt to the cultures of the host county (Canada). Furthermore, education of the immigrants could face challenges if they experience difficulty settling in Canada. Given that immigrants later work in Canada, the human resource sector faces a new challenge of managing a diversified workforce, which can create headache for Canadian employers. Banting indicated that there is, “a strong sense that multiculturalism policies have “failed” a reaction that is strongest perhaps in the Netherlands, but is felt in many other countries as well,” (797). Such assertions only fuel resentment towards

Challenges Faced by Immigrants The changing environments throughout the ages have caused the movement of thousands of families out of their homelands. Whether forced to make such decisions or doing so by their own desires, all immigrants have had to survive the physical and psychological challenges encountered along the way. To speak about the experiences of all these different people using the same ideas and examples would be quite inaccurate. They all, however, had to live through similar situations and deal with similar problems.
