Interview Analysis
Overview
I have decided to interview Kevin Cheng, a graduating senior at Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Master of Science in Computer Science. He is currently working as an intern at Freemark Partners, the private investment firm for the Marks family, where he is developing an industry research project, as well as helping the team with deal sourcing, due diligence, deal execution, and other assorted tasks related to the private equity industry. I’m not very familiar with what data scientists do specifically, but in general their work focuses on analytics, machine learning, and big data. Software engineers are the coders, and the recruitment process is very focused on coding interviews and tests. Product managers carry the responsibility of managing the development cycle of company projects, whether that be a new application, system, or service. The superday was largely behavioral-focused, though I did have to pitch a stock with supporting information. For Wellington Management, I had two phone interviews with senior management and a final round interview, which was arguably the toughest interview I’ve ever had. I had to travel to the company headquarters, wake up at 5am to get to the office at 6:30am, where I was put in a room for an hour to evaluate two companies. I was given information packages on both companies, which included their 10-K reports, investor presentations, etc. and I was instructed to prepare a pitch to senior people, who had an extended discussion on the technical aspects of the stocks.
