International Student Recruitment to Canada International student recruitment has been an emerging trend in education globally, for several reasons. Verbik and Lasanowski (2007) reported on the short and long-term gains of international student recruitment to institutions. With student funding in many countries on the decline, seeking the revenue from international student tuition becomes increasingly a priority. In addition, many countries seek to prepare for projected skilled labour shortages by recruiting international students who then, after graduation, remain in the that country and supplement the work force. Furthermore, in countries like Canada with one of the lowest birth rates of the developed countries, societies

By attracting a broad demographic of students, the campus environment can more realistically mirror today’s multicultural society. This helps students to become global citizens with competencies that will help them understand and contribute to the world around them. This practice of attracting international students to campuses produces graduates with intercultural understanding and with the potential to develop plans and solutions for events happening around the world. Canada has prioritized international education, including the recruitment of international students and the internationalization of domestic education, as a key stimulus for its future prosperity in innovation, trade, and the development of the labour market. In a report written by an advisory panel on Canada’s International Education Strategy in 2012, the panel believed that international …show more content…
This target is based on the global trends of international student mobility and the capacity within Canada to host new students.
2) Increase opportunities for Canadian students to have international experiences
Internationalization is not solely about the recruitment of international students to Canada. The strategy sets to realize this and to establish a significant student mobility program to create pathways for 50,000 Canadian students (across K-12 to post-secondary) per year to study abroad, participate in cultural exchanges, or other foreign activities by 2020. This goal requires the Government of Canada to consider co-funding with institutions, provinces/territories and/or private funders. Internationalization also must include opportunities for faculty/teachers and researchers to develop ties with foreign institutions. The strategy recognizes that the placement of Canadian students, faculty, and researchers abroad can act as a powerful marketing opportunity.
3) Prioritize internationalization at the federal level of
Every year, more and more International students are coming to the U.S. for pursuing higher education. According to the Open Doors report published annually by the Institute of International Education (IIE), the number of intern...

In addition to a discriminatory job market and unrealistic expectations, the youth of today also has to deal with an education system that is in many respects inadequate. Tuition in Canada has nearly quadrupled in the past twenty years (Deschamps 2015), vastly outpacing the amount of inflation over the same time period. This has led to an increasing amount of recent graduates being in debt and unable to find a job. On top of that, universities have not changed very much over the past thirty years, despite the job market changing drastically over the same time span. This has led to a growing disconnect between universities programs and available jobs (Kawaguchi & Murao 2014). As a result, universities today are preparing the population for
As a variety of people from different cultures, religions and ethnic backgrounds migrate into Canada, more perspectives, ideas and opportunities arise. As for immigrants status, they make up only 20% of Canada’s population, although at least 35% of Canada’s Research Chairs are Foreign born. Also, it is recorded that immigrants win more prestigious literary and performing arts awards than Canadian-born citizens. Thus, proving that multiculturalism benefits through innovation and creativity for Canada's education and future. Continuing onward, our culture influences us to see things around us a certain way. A variety of viewpoints and perspectives, along with a wide spread of personal and professional experiences offers new perspectives that can inspire others as well to see the world differently. Hence, multiculturalism gives others new tactics and an inspiration to work better together and an insight to create new things. Furthermore, Foreign direct investments into Canada is greater from countries that are well-represented in Canada through immigration, thus showing the advantage of multiculturalism from an innovation perspective of economy. Also, diversity of thoughts and ideas has been shown to generate creativity and drive innovation, thus helping to solve problems and align customers needs in a fresh and
The Canadian government’s move toward globalization is creating a level playing field for the Canadian economy and the culture by closing the gap of trade barriers and opening up the market, thereby making Canada a more industrialized and multicultural society. Globalization, the term is defined as the interactions among people of different nations through international trade and communication integration. This approach is unlocking the nationalistic perspectives to broader outlook, thus encouraging multiculturalism as well as linking ties among the nations.
Canada is a very big country where many immigrants want to achieve their goals and have a good life. According to government statistics (October 2013) population in Canada is 35,295,770 and is still increasing. Every year more people from every country in the world are moving to Canada to settle down, find new job, and start perfect life. It is very hard to behave like born and raised as Canadians for people from different countries, cultures and with different backgrounds. Canadian government is supporting newcomers trough many trainings and courses, but this is immigrants responsibility to be prepared for new circumstances, they have to do a lot of job themselves just to feel safe and secure in new place and life. Immigrants should considered few very important things before they will make their decision about changing place and life style. While they can be great specialist in their field, emigrants have to learn about Canadian culture, Canadian workplace rules, and what’s most important they have to adopt this knowledge to their new life.
Canada is a country that was built by immigration. Every year, thousands of hopeful immigrants come to Canada in order to have a better life. And for some, a better life can be achieved. However, for many others, this is simply not the case. In recent years, the number of visible minority immigrants has increased. And while this country’s ethnic diversity has benefitted from this influx, the economic landscape has shifted in a way to disfavor them. This economic disparity can be found through the income inequality that many immigrants face due to their educational background, low social and cultural capital, and occupational choices. It is these factors that have led to an overqualified work force, higher unemployment rates, and a widening
As Canadian's fertility rate fells, baby boomers retires, immigration and foreign workers becomes very important for the increase of labor demands in the Canadian's job market. The government is planning to reduce the application waiting time and therefore there will be more newcomers coming in the next fewer years. Canadian companies will then have many experienced and foreign trained applicants where they can help Canadian companies to increase their foreign trade and to build a better relationship with the other country. However, new comers have difficulties in finding employment because of their unrecognized foreign qualifications, non Canadian work experienced and the lack of support in the settlement programs where they get help to find employment.
Being an international student is exciting. It offers a lot of exposure and scope for improvement. Canada has a lot of institutions that accept foreign students, but before that, the practical difficulties an international student might face in the country should be noted.
However, the people of South Asia can remain hopeful. The economy continues to grow at faster rate than the population. Fertility rates are still rather high with India alone adding 15 million people per year over the past decade (Wiley 420). However, that number is predicted to steadily decline in the coming years. East Asia is categorized as being in stage 4 of the Demographic Transition Model, meaning birth and death rates are both low. This is directly the result of the Chinese government’s “one child policy”. China’s “one child policy” has left a gender imbalance of 117 boys for every 100 girls. Along with a gender imbalance, China has many babies that were born during the population explosion getting older. This leaves a significant imbalance between the younger generations to follow and the growing older generation (Wiley 486-488). Unlike South and East Asia, Europe’s population is decreasing. Countries are reporting an average of less than 2 children are being born to mothers. This directly affects the pensions and funds for health care because there are not enough workers to pay taxes for these social services (Wiley 53). A bright spot for Europe’s population deficit has been immigration, which has brought along new
Young individuals are the future of society, as they will once be adults filling important shoes in society. Majority of individuals have the belief of going to school, working towards their passion for a successful career. The education we receive at an early age plays an important role in our perception regarding the world. I agree that there are a small number of educational aspects from other countries that could benefit the Canadian educational system. Though Canada currently has one of the best educational systems in the world, comparatively to Japan, the USA and India, Canada can still improve in terms of lowering student loan rates and developing after school programs for students.
In regards to the importance of international education I plan on talking about how more prepared I am for my future career and how important it is to get out of their comfort zones. Also, I plan to discuss the cultural benefits of international education because the most of the learning comes from being hands on in the community and not in a classroom setting. My second proposal it to create some sort of mentoring program between students of color who are interested in studying abroad and matching them with another student of color who was able to study abroad with the aid of the Gilman’s Scholarship Program. In this mentorship I plan to to have each pair talk about their career goals, how studying abroad will help them reach their goals, as well as a number of other things. The mentor will also help the mentee with applying to the Gilman scholarship in addition to figuring out what study abroad program would be best.
...he second way to attempt to decrease the population is through increased active family planning programs. Especially in poor countries, it is a lot harder for women just to jump into the work force, and even harder for a poor country to become industrialized. For example, in Bangladesh, one of the world's poorest countries, birth rates have decreased from seven children per family to only 5.5. This is largely because forty percent of Bangladesh's woman now take part in some form of family planning.
As mentioned before, I am an international student from China studying at a Canadian high school. When I first came to Canada, the environment was completely unfamiliar to me. I had to overcome a language barrier, a cultural barrier, and differences in lifestyles. However, I did not flinch but challenged myself. I took tutorial classes to learn English, I spent more time than other students doing homework, and I joined clubs and took part in activities to get involved in the Canadian cultural.
International student enlistment is on the enhancement at all Universities in North America. Understudies are needing to study in Canada and the US in light of the fact that their Universities are continually positioning amongst the best Universities and Colleges on the planet. Canadian University enlistment for universal undergrad and graduate understudies is ascending for a few reasons: Educational cost expenses and expenses of living in Canada are amongst the least on the planet Off-campus occupation is abundant and wins understudies significant experience and cash they could likely get no place else Canada as of now has substantial populaces of individuals of every single ethnic foundation so understudies are never totally alone
