Integrity; it's a word that has seemed to be lost in our country as of late. There isn't much more to be said than that. In American culture, this virtue has seemingly lost all of its sheen, as being honest and showing moral uprightness is not exactly the most attractive of actions anymore. Indeed, if one were to ask a random bystander on the street what the word integrity actually means, they probably would not be able to answer accurately. I personally find that a sad truth, as integrity is not only something that I know, however, but it is also one of my most treasured virtues. I personally believe that integrity is not merely an idea. This virtue is an action; how one decides to live their life every single day.
The definition of integrity,
by the standard dictionary, is "The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness". However, while that may be true, I would like to add on to that incredibly simple definition. To me, integrity is so much more than just being honest and having strong principles. Sincerity, trustworthiness, ethics, honor, rectitude, and fairness, these words are only a few of the many synonyms this word exhibits. Integrity is a gift; a gift that one can either accept or squander. Also, it is choice about how someone wishes to live their life, and how others will see them. It is a decision about what one will decide to become when no one else is around. Quite literally, it is an unfiltered human being. People are who they are because of integrity, as it is the foundation of a personality. “The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.”(Brainy Quote) Now, while integrity does affect oneself, it also affects everyone who comes into contact with it. Integrity in itself has a way of almost drawing people in. Not only is it charismatic, but it is also honesty, sincerity, and honor. Furthermore, integrity is an incredibly unique virtue, as when one exhibits it, they automatically show signs of other noble traits. Integrity is the gateway to virtue, and virtue is the gateway to a memorable life. If one were to observe closely, almost every great leader in history had a strong sense of integrity. George Washington, Socrates, Martin Luther, Rosa Parks, all of them showed a strong sense of honesty and high moral standard. That says something about the importance of exhibiting such a trait. To truly be a great leader, one must first prove themselves to have a high moral standard. Integrity raises people to the best they can be, and helps men leave their mark on the history of the world. This virtuous trait has the power to change the world. The word integrity is grossly undefined and underrated. Most everyone would say that integrity is what one does around the house when they are alone. Now, while that may be true, the word is worthy of a much more in-depth description then that. To be perfectly honest, it is many things. Not only is it a virtue, but integrity is quite simply a lifestyle. Integrity on the outside may seem to be simple, however, at its core, it is one of the most complex virtues a man can exhibit. However one decides to define it, integrity is one of the most important traits one can exhibit. Without it, what would one be but an empty shell.
One virtue every person should have and admire in other people in integrity. Integrity is defined as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles and moral uprightness. In the Marine Corps integrity was a virtue you hoped everyone one of your Marines had. A person with integrity is someone you can truly trust, is reliable, and an honest person.
Integrity is the quality of having honesty and strong values. In the story “from Sir Gawain the Green Knight” Sir Gawain had to face many challenges and still had integrity. Although he botched some of his tests, he also exceeded some of the trials. His integrity helped him throughout all the challenges he faced. Due to the all the tests that were given he had to face them all. They were set to an ingenious mark on the King. The king’s test was to prove and see if he was conscientious, robust, and committed.
Based on Merriam-Webster, Integrity means to have the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. In the article “The Insufficiency of Honesty” by Stephen Carter, the author described that Integrity is a form of honesty, although honesty itself stand for something else. This is why he sees those two virtues as partly different . Carter realized this difference between complete truth and righteousness. Honesty is to tell the complete truth, but integrity is more about righteousness. Sometimes telling the truth could hurt somebody’s feelings which could be a disaster. “The truth hurts”, but having integrity means to not only be a truthful person, but one with moral values, being able to put other’s first and being able to keep promise. Equaling honesty to integrity is downgrading the great meaning behind the word as the author stated one person “may tell us quite truthfully what they believe without ever taking the time to figure out whether what they believe is good and r...
Integrity, the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Most people who read Arthur Miller's “The Crucible” would agree that one of the main characters, John Proctor is a man of integrity.
Whenever an author is creating an argument, they must appeal to whatever grabs his or her selected audience’s attention. When given the topic of Michael Fay, an 18 year old American citizen who was punished in Singapore for vandalism by being caned, two sources appealed to their audience in two contrasting ways. In “Time to Assert American Values,” published by The New York Times, the author tries to capture his or her audience by stirring up emotion. In “Rough Justice: A Caning in Singapore Stirs up a Fierce Debate about Crime and Punishment,” Alejandro Reyes presents factual evidence throughout the entire article to support his claims. After carefully analyzing both texts, it is apparent that Alejandro Reyes gives a more convincing and sufficient
Integrity is a trait that is hard to find nowadays in people but that doesn’t mean it isn’t out there, you just have to look closely. I’m grateful enough to say that I know three people personally who have qualities of integrity. I was raised by a father who has implanted selflessness into my heart. My grandma has shown me how to love and my cousin has manifested how to be brave in life. Selflessness, love, and bravery are the qualities I believe a person of integrity
Integrity to me means going above and beyond with everything I do. I think this will fuel good grades and completion of assignments. Having good integrity also came with some confidence, because I had to do more and go outside of the crowd. I did and do more than everyone else, that made me fell a lot more confident about my actions. Confidence has pushed me to make suggestions that I otherwise wouldn't.
Integrity to me is another characteristic trait that most heroes should have because to me that characteristic trait is one of the traits that makes a hero. Integrity means to have adherence to other people’s morals and your own moral value of things. To be a hero you
Integrity is an idea that has been discussed by individuals with a verbal acuity far beyond anything I could ever hope for. With that in mind, I will not delve deeply or poetically into what integrity is or should mean. However, I will simplify the meaning of integrity; at the core, integrity boils down to doing what is right even if nobody is watching. See a piece of trash on the ground and nobody is around...pick it up. Driving down the road with no cops in sight...drive the speed limit. Arrive at a tollbooth and no attendant is working…pay the toll. An applicant is not readily available to sign a form for enlistment…track them down and ensure they sign it. I could write examples until infinity becomes paltry in comparison, yet I am sure I have made my point clearly; the greater good must be upheld regardless of who is there to ensure it is happening. It seems obvious that integrity should be a trait every individual is hardwired with from birth. However, integrity is a thankless trait; nobody is around after all. An individual cannot expect someone to clap, to smile, to thank them, to do anything actually. By definition, integrity should be something that is followed through with simply because an individual wishes to do what is correct, not because they expect accolades of any sort.
My friends and I pretty much agree what integrity is. Morals and honesty. Those are what make our society work. Without it, we have anarchy. Basic human decency helps us live in a basically good world. Of course it is not perfect (see: gang members, terrorists, and the likes), but those who choose to live their lives with g...
principles. To have integrity, you must have strong moral principles. This can include having beliefs
Integrity is the quality of being honest. When you are honest about something or a certain situation you are considered a person of integrity. Also when you have integrity you have strong moral principles. When you have strong moral principles you know what is right and what is wrong. “Having integrity means doing the right thing in a reliable way. It's a personality trait that we admire, since it means a person has a moral compass that doesn't waver. It literally means having "wholeness" of character, just as an integer is a "whole number" with no fractions.” Furthermore, having integrity is a quality that many strive to have because it often means that you are a good person.
Amy Rees Anderson claims that integrity is the single most important value of life; acting with integrity means that one will always commit the right actions without caring if people are observing you or about the consequences that may follow, and although building the status of integrity will take a long time to develop, you can lose it immediately with a single wrongdoing.
It shows that you can be real with people. Your not afraid to share the truth at the right time even if it is hard to do. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching, but not all the time. It is good to be trained to know what to do when know one is watching but sometimes people slip. Sometimes you might make a miskate or a wrong step, but that’s ok. So having integrity does not always mean to always be perfect. Having integrity does mean that you have a strong enough character inside of you and to learn from your mistakes. It also means to keep finding yourself in your actions. One person in my life that shws integrity is my dad. My dad show integrity becuase he keeps his promeses and does what he is supposed to do. For my dad’s work he has lots of projects he has to finish deadlines. One time my dad showed integrity was when there was a project do at the end of the week and he had a big portion of the project to finsh. I asked my dad if he could help me with my homework, I did not know he was busy. He said sure, so he took a break of an important project that was due soon and went out of his way to help
Integrity is, in my opinion the important characteristics because it’s a core quality of a great life, building a big “character” to ensure that someone knows right from wrong. My mom said to me “Without integrity you’re just a living failure”. Throughout my whole life I have used integrity in some way, shape, or form. Like playing sports, I have always been the leader of every team I played for if it was in basketball, baseball, and football. In sports having integrity is very
