Instant coffee was an invention made in the 1890s by David Strang. Instant coffee has been improved over the years by many other scientists. What makes this coffee instant is the powder state it’s in. The purpose of this invention is to make making coffee easier and quicker. When you are in a rush in the morning you want to be able to get coffee without the expense, time and still get great tasting coffee. This is why instant coffee was made.
David Strang first patented his idea in 1890 as the Dry Hot Air process. It is also said that Britain started the coffee invention in1771. The first American product of coffee was made in 1853. In 1901 Satori Kato, a Japanese scientist successfully manufactured instant coffee. In 1906 George Constant Washington a British chemist living in Guatemala, developed the first commercially successful process for making instant coffee. Then Nescafe Company introduced it commercially in 1938. Instant coffee became popular very quickly and brewed coffee was then considered old fashion. Coffee that was imported was mostly turned into a powdery substance for instant coffee to be made.
Ever hear of Strang’s coffee? Well it was David Strang from Invercargill, New Zealand to start the instant coffee idea. Even though the instant coffee idea was attempted before Strang, it was Strang who patented the idea of Dry Hot Air process. The way instant coffee was made was by freeze-drying or spray drying. Freeze-drying or lyophilization is when you can freeze food for a very long time even years and the taste and texture will stay the same. Spray drying is a process of spraying hot air to put the coffee in a powder state.

Crystal nucleation is the process of formation, the occurrence of crystallization conditions is a natural occurred in the area above the curve is saturated, and is added from outside of the seed crystal. The process of crystal formation occurs in solute than normal conditions. That is how the process of making coffee works.
I believe that instant coffee is one the greatest inventions. It has improved my life by making coffee easier. Coffee helps me start my day by giving me energy and improve my focus. The greatest part is that it is quick and easy to make in the morning when I’m in a rush. Thanks to David Strang’s invention making coffee is much easier.
The coffee pot was made to make coffee easier to make with a metal sieve to catch all the coffee grounds. The inventor of the coffee pot was Benjamin Thompson who was also a lieutenant for the loyalist during the American Revolution. The coffee pot was made in 1806. It worked by sieving out coffee grounds from the coffee so there wasn't grounds in the coffee when poured.
George Howell , a well-known entrepreneur, invented the Frappuccino. Howell opened the Coffee Connection in Boston, Massachusetts. The café was a great success. Howell decided that he wanted to use the finest of green coffee to make the "best" cup of coffee. He wanted to create a way to preserve and keep the coffee fresh
The most important part of the cup of coffee, the coffee beans, is typically harvested from South America, mainly because of the fact that Starbucks uses Arabica beans (Weinberg 1), which is dependent on a temperate climate that exists on the majority of the continent. The country that provides the biggest market supply of coffee beans for Starbucks is Brazil ...
Experts say that caffeine is the most widely used drug in the world, many people have access to caffeine through: coffee, energy drinks, soda etc. Caffeine is an odorless bitter sweet drug that is found inside of coffee beans, cocoa beans, tea leaves, and cola nuts. The word coffee comes from the Arab word "quhwah", meaning bitter sweet. Coffee is grown in many countries such as Brazil, Columbia, Kenya, Jamaica, and Ethiopia. It has been told in an old story a long time ago that a young Ethiopian man was watching his family’s goats when he noticed that some goats were eating coffee beans off of a coffee plant. He observed that the goats that were eating the coffee beans were much friskier than the goats that were not eating them, leading him to believe ...

When Starbucks started their target market were people who enjoyed coffee not just for the energy boost that they got from the caffeine, but people who enjoyed sitting down and drinking a well-prepared cup of coffee. Upon visiting Italy and falling in love with the coffee bars and the experience that they offered, Schultz envisioned a place between home and work where you could just sit and enjoy your coffee. Starbucks wanted to control their coffee from “raw green bean to the steaming cup” this meant that they had to talk with their farmers to make sure the quality was up to their standards. They
Starbucks founder Howard Schultz made it a point that in order to create the best brew, the best coffee beans were required. Starbucks utilizes only the highest of quality beans for their coffee products, which requires them to carry out a rigorous quality control process. Coffee beans vary in complexity and taste depending on where they are grown. Essentially, the harsher the environment the coffee is grown the better the over all taste. “Robusta beans are popular among some cheaper coffee distributors because they are grown in a more stable and predictable environment resulting in a cheaper price and taste” (Onward 83). Robusta beans have been domesticated, meaning they are “deliberately planted, protected, cared for, and used by humans” (The Human Mosaic 267) Arabica coffee beans are grown on steep mountains in high climates or in dry lands with intense heat. This stress produces b...
Howard Shultz and the senior management at Starbucks have to decide how to react to the opportunities that are being made available because of their rapid growth. The decision for a strategic growth plan has to be made in the near future. This will prove to be key for Starbucks reaching their long-term goal of becoming the most recognized and respected brand of coffee in the world.
In the United States, coffee is the second largest import (Roosevelt, 2004). Furthermore, the United States, consumes one-fifth of all the worlds¡¦ coffee (Global Exchange, 2004). The present industry is expanding. It is estimated that North America¡¦s sector will reach saturation levels within 5 year (Datamonitor. n.d.). According to National Coffee Association (NCA), 8 out of 10 Americans consume coffee. In addition, it is estimated that half of the American population drinks coffee daily. The international market remains highly competitive. It is estimated that 3,300 cups of coffee are consumed every second of the day worldwide (Ecomall, n.d.). The latest trends included dual drinkers, an increase in senior citizens...
It appears that coffee was discovered in the ninth century after a goatherd named Kaldi found the berries that his sheep were eating made his sheep and then himself unusually energetic. The stimulating berries after being roasted and brewed eventually evolved into coffee as a hot drink and became popular throughout Arabia, Turkey and Europe by the seventeenth century. (Thomson, 2006). In 1901, the first successful technique for manufacturing a stable powered product was invented by Sartori Kato, a Japanese chemist living in America. Kato received a patent for his invention and the instant coffee history was made. He then set up his own coffee company named Kato Coffee Company in Chicago (Stefanie, n.d.).
The history of caffeine illustrates how initially the drug was used medicinally and as beverages in limited quantities, which lessened the negative effects. Caffeine can be traced to the introduction of tealeaves, coffee beans, and cacao plants. Stories and myths have been shared for centuries upon when caffeine was discovered. Anthropologists speculate that the discovery of caffeine was as early as 700, 000 B.C. in Paleolithic times but do not have any evidence to confirm this theory (Weinberg et al. xii). The most widely known creation myth comes from Ethiopia, when a goat herder noticed his goats “danced” after consuming red berries off of a coffee bush. Coffee and tea had been around for a few hundred years before the discovery of caffeine was even made. The first scientific discovery of ca...
Arabica beans are harvested once or twice a year. Its colour is like the trees, green and not yet what is normally served on the market. Roasting the coffee beans changes the colour and flavour. The caffeine is bitter when it’s brewed to a cup, but there is rarely caffeine at all. Lattes are just a waste of milk with an ounce of two of espresso. Espresso does not have much caffeine, only the grind makes it strong. The taste goes from bitter to sweet, like the oils on the beans.
Coffee has its history as far back of the 9th century .It is believed to be originated in Ethiopia, particularly in the south western parts of the country called Kaffa (Wilson p-45) . The etymology of coffee presumed to be taken was from kaffa where it was originated.
