George Howell , a well-known entrepreneur, invented the Frappuccino. Howell opened the Coffee Connection in Boston, Massachusetts. The café was a great success. Howell decided that he wanted to use the finest of green coffee to make the "best" cup of coffee. He wanted to create a way to preserve and keep the coffee fresh Howell was originally raised in New Jersey. At age 13, Howell and his family moved to New Mexico. In 1964, Howell attended Yale University where he studied art history, modern French and Spanish literature. But later in Howell's college years, he started going to New York City's jazz clubs. Knowles, was the vice president and purchasing agent of a coal company earned him a comfortable living. His mother, Mary Beatrice Shea Knowles, taught him how to read and write and instilled in him a love for learning. His parents decided he needed to go to a better than Oyster Bay High school, so at the age of fifteen, he left home for Phillips Exeter Academy. This academy was an elite prep school in New Hampshire. This new school was both socially and academically difficult. He pushed on and eventually enrolled into Yale to study English in 1944.

Jesse Moncell Bethel was born in New York City, New York on July 8, 1922. He was born to Jesse M. Bethel and Ethel Williams. His father left the home when he was only six months old and his mother died when he was only three and a half years old. Being an orphan now, he was raised by his grandmother in Arkansas. He then moved to Oklahoma where his family sharecropped cotton and cornfields. Bethel attended elementary school while in Oklahoma and later graduated from Booker Washington High School there too. Bethel attended Tillotson College in Austin, Texas. He graduated there with a Bachelors of Science degree in chemistry. He invented the red solo cup and the traveler’s lid both of which had a big impact on American society. The red solo cup took Hulseman 2 years to perfect. It was his favorite accomplishment by far (Antosiewicz 2). He was so proud of this because it marked the skyrocket of his family's company and put the Solo Cup Company on the map (Antosiewicz 1).
