Do you know how to react if you see a bear? Did you know that brown bears are very similar to humans, as they can stand on their hind legs, walk on the soles of their feet, and often pick things up with “fingers?” There are multiple types of bears such as the Polar Bear, Grizzly Bear, and the Brown Bear.
The first bear of that I will inform you on is the Polar Bear also known as the Ursus Maritimus. The polar bear doesn’t have a very large diet, they mostly eat ringed or bearded seals because they need large amounts of fat to survive. The average length of a Polar Bear from head to foot is from six to nine feet. On average a Polar Bear weighs from 800 pounds to 1300 pounds. The Brown bear is an omnivore meaning they will eat both meat and plants. The average length of a brown bear is from six to nine feet for males and five to eight feet for females. Brown bears on average weigh anywhere from 440 pounds to 770 pounds. Brown bears are of small concern for extinction. Like most bears they aren’t usually dangerous, they are only dangerous when angry or tempted. Brown bears occupy North America, Europe, and Asia.
The last bear is the grizzly bear also known as the Ursus Arctos, this is the same as brown bears due to the fact that grizzlies are a type of brown bear. Being a type of brown bear, grizzlies are also omnivorous. The average height of a grizzly bear is 7 feet when standing. Bearlife.org states, “350 to 800 pounds for male bears, and roughly 25% less for females.” Grizzly bears are known as a threatened species.
