As we all know cancer is one of the worst things a person can be affected by, there are more than 15.5 million Americans alive with a history of cancer. Cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells divide uncontrollably, and they destroy body tissue. Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death,it is the second most common cancer in both men and women. Stated by The American Cancer Society in 2017 there are about 225,500 new cases of lung cancer. We should all know what the cancer is, the cause of this cancer, the symptoms and how to prevent this horrible disease.
Lung cancer is the growth of abnormal cells which form typically start in the lining (the lining is called the pleura it protects the lung and helps slide back and forth) the of the bronchi and parts of the lung in both or just one of the lungs. As the cells grow they divide rapidly, the abnormal cells can even from tumors and interfere with the functioning of the lungs. There are two main types of lung cancer non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer, but the most common is non-small cell lung cancer. Almost eighty-five percent of the cases of lung cancer are non-small lung cancer. Men who smoke are twenty three times more likely to develop lung cancer,while women are thirteen times more likely. Your risks of getting lung cancer from smoking increases more the longer you smoke. On the other hand though being a non-smoker does not mean you cannot get lung cancer, twenty percent of lung cancer is cause by being exposed to radon ,secondhand smoke,air pollution, having a family history of lung cancer or other factors. This brings a number of conditions and circumstances that have been identified and that could increase a non-smoker’s chance of developing lung
