Kids are meant to be happy, play outside, go to school, and have fun. They aren’t meant to sit in hospitals, losing weight by the pound, carrying around IV poles filled with poison. It’s ridiculous and immature that we don’t have a cure for childhood cancer. The only “treatment” that we have is chemotherapy- a chemical that seems to help fight off cancer. Chemo doesn’t just fight off cancer cells though- it fights off healthy cells in your blood, mouth, digestive system, and hair follicles. The most frustrating thing about childhood cancer is that only 4% of federal funding is exclusively dedicated to childhood cancer research. It is true that more adults get diagnosed with cancer than kids, but does that mean that adults are 96% more important than children? The average age of diagnosis for an adult with cancer is age 67, and the average number of years lost is 15. 15 years are definitely many years, but not that many compared to the average number of years lost for a child- 71. Also, age 67 is a lot older than the average age of diagnoses for a child- age 6. At least the adults get to grow up and have the ability to even have cancer- some of these kids can’t even get through a fifth of their lives.
A common topic in everyday life is sickness. It’s something that equalizes all classes of society. Whether you’re rich or poor, it’s possible to get sick. Whenever you hear someone talking about cancer you assume the worst. Your brain goes to an image of an old person, hair falling out, frail, in extreme amounts of pain, suffering from the cancer killing their body slowly from the inside out. But you never imagine it actually happening to you or someone you love. But it happened to my grandma. About four years ago my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time, she had just moved away from my mom and I to live near her son and his family. I knew she had cancer but I wasn’t aware of how she was dealing with it or what cancer was. I

I have been doing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for 8 days now. I am so tired. Tired of this cancer. Tired of this treatment. I never would have guessed the sizeable toll that this has taken on me. First of all, the chemo is making me lose some of my hair, and I am physically drained all of the time. Also, the pills don’t taste very good. And also I can’t feel my fingertips or my toes. I guess that’s just a side effect from one of the two.

Have you ever heard of untreatable cancers? Leukemia is one of those cancers and isn’t very known, so I would like to inform you about it. Today I am going to be talking about Leukemia. I chose to talk about this cancer because I’ve never known a lot about it and want other people to learn more about it.
Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the U.S. It occurs in about 1 in 4 deaths in the world. The cancer statistics of death are supposed to keep rising. The world is not doing enough to stop cancer and are letting people just die from cancer. Doctors hate chemotherapy and would refuse it in a heartbeat. Many people think that modern medicine is doing what it is supposed to, but in reality it is not. There is supernumerary chemotherapy’s and excessive amount of money being spent on current research methods, that nothing is being done to see what is actually causing the cancer in the first place.
