Fatal complications occur from regular use, for example, liver damage, seizures, elevated blood pressure causing stroke, heart failure, or heart attack. Another growing fad in the United States is the abuse of prescription drugs. The abuse is being done by not only adults, but by teens. The most current trend today is the misuse of cough syrups and prescription medications to produce a “high.” Other medications abused today are stimulants (Ritalin), and benzodiazepines (Xanax).
“I’m the one they call when things go wrong, and things have indeed gone wrong.”
There is a common misperception that because medications are prescribed by physicians, they are safe even when used illegally or by another person than they were prescribed for. “Using some stimulants even in the short term can trigger paranoia; high doses can cause an increase in body temperature and abnormal heartbeat. There’s also a risk of cardiovascular problems and fatal seizures.” ( Jed 1) Your brain reacts with these prescription drugs in a particular way and misusing or overdose can often cause complications like vomiting, slow breathing, irregular heart rate, increase in blood pressure or the person can even fall into a coma or die in worst cases.

Everything in the world is connected in one way or another, Rebecca Adamson once said, "All things connect. What happens to the Earth happens to the children of the Earth. Human kind has not woven the web of life; we are but one thread. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves" ("Interconnection Quotes"). The way she explains how everyone and everything is connected to one another on Earth is both simple and the most complex idea to understand.

Besides the individual symptoms that these drugs possess, any abuse of medications can cause addiction, change in mood, perceptions, behavior judgment, and all of these risks increase the chances when being mixed with actual prescribed medications, alcohol, or illicit drugs. Countless abusers believe in the misconceptions that make abusing seem okay. For instance, they believe that since they’re prescribed from a doctor, it means that they’re safe for everyone as well as being legal for anyone to induce them. Not only are they hurting their organs, but they are also causing a disease to form in their body that are very hard to heal if they are healable. They can also mess with their mind and emotions. This could lead to hallucinations, paranoid delusions, and obsessions. (Amphetamine) Examples of amphetamines include adderall, benzidrine, and dexedrine. Students often abuse prescriptions for adderall as a study tool. I’ve known students at my previous school in Miami take adderall during every exam when they weren’t even prescribed it, which is a perfect example of amphetamine abuse. I’ve even heard of students becoming addicted to such drugs.
Around age eight his very own father introduced Downey to drugs. His addiction started to become serious as he entered his twenties. When he acted in the movie Less Than Zero, he played the role of a cocaine addicted, which fit him well. Downey said that, "Until that movie, I took my drugs after work and on the weekends." He then stated "Maybe I'd turn up hung over on the set, but no more so than the stuntman. That changed on Less Than Zero. I was playing this junkie-faggot guy, and, for me, the role was like the ghost of Christmas future. The character was an exaggeration of myself. Then things changed, and, in some ways, I became an exaggeration of the character. That last...
