Make Halloween a family affair and involve your senior loved one in the making of your costumes. For inspiration, here are five easy-to-make Halloween costumes that one or the entire family can wear to hand out candy or to a celebration: Smarty Pants You will look sweet enough to eat yet nerdy in this whimsical costume. Have your senior help glue wrapped Smartie candies sporadically on a pair of old trousers. Put the pants on, and accessorize with a large bow-tie and black glasses with masking tape wrapped around the nose bridge area of it to complete the look. Traditional Cat A cat costume is an all-time favorite. Use eyeliner for drawing whiskers, a quick cat nose and lining the outline of your eyes. Have your senior help you to trace
and cut two triangles from a thick piece of black cardboard, then paint the center of them pink. Glue each triangle point side up to the top, sides of a black headband. This will be your cat ears. Slide the headband on your head, and complete the look by dressing in any shade of black or brown clothing. Chip on Your Shoulder You can be the punniest family at a Halloween party if you each wear a snack-snack bag of chips glued to the upper shoulder of a shirt matching the color of the bag. For extra fun, glue a few chips around around the bag of chips. Static Cling Go together to a Halloween event as the static cling family, and watch people erupt with laughter. Your senior can help you create this costume by affixing clothing like socks and undies and dryer sheets sporadically on your clothes. Complete the look by wearing a hat decorated in the same way. Fork in the Road You're sure to get a chuckle wearing this hysterical costume. Dress in head-to-toe black. Have your senior place rectangle-shaped pieces of white tape evenly spaced a part down the center of your entire outfit to resemble a dividing lane line. Tape or glue a fork between two of the pieces at the beginning of the line.
Late autumn has arrived and with it comes the dark magic of Halloween--and, of course, the
Through costumes it becomes apparent that the characters fit into their stereotypes they have been given. The “athlete” (Andrew) wears a letterman jacket along a Nike shirt to show off. By wearing the Nike shirt, he is showing off because it is a popular, expensive brand. The “princess” (Claire) wears a pink sweater and a skirt. She is very stylish and put in a great deal of effort getting ready to go to detention on a Saturday. This shows that she cares what others think of her. The “basket case,” (Allison) who does not have confidence in herself, wears all black and baggy clothing. The “criminal” (Bender) wears an outfit with multiple different pieces randomly thrown together and holes in his shoes. One could analyze that he is trying to hide his scars from the abuse he receives at home and gives himself as many layers of protection from “abuse” as possible. He is also wearing sunglasses to be perceived as “cool.” The “brain” (Brian) wears high-waisted khakis and a sweater vest as well as a watch. This is practical, and down-to-earth. In addition to the students in the film Principal Vernon also fits into a stereotype. Vernon wears a brown and black suit that is out of style, according to Bender. Along with costumes, the view of the characters that the viewer receives also shows the differences between the
It's a tradition for my sister and I to make our Halloween costumes together and carve pumpkins - you know, the whole nine yards. Sometimes our dad would help, but usually it was just us and the dog outside. We would constantly be covered in some kind of paint or dye, whether it be fake blood, face paint, fabric paint, or some years even tea. (We got creative.) The costumes ended up being cool,

I can’t hold in my excitement as I run to the foyer. Mom looks at me worriedly, but I ignore her and throw open the door before the person standing behind it can knock. He looks at me with boredom lacing his expression, obviously expecting my weird gift to tell the future. I quickly hug him and grab his pale hand, pulling him outside. Tonight is Halloween, and the only time my pale blonde friend visits me. He’s my first and only friend, so I don’t mind that he doesn’t play with me the other three hundred sixty-something days in the year.
Everybody celebrates Halloween, but some people might celebrate the spooky holiday in a variety of ways. Most people celebrate this holiday by going door to door asking the greeters for candy while in their costumes. Others may see the night as an advantage to play pranks on others or even to create public haunted houses or haunted trails. For people that like to hold public events, they may create costume parties. For those that are either lazy or they just don’t want to participate in the events, they may spend the night by staying in their houses and doing an activity of their own. Most do not know this, but Halloween was originally a holiday to honor loved ones who passed.
This is a very hot topic issue with me! And I truly hope many others that either haven’t spoken out against it yet, or haven’t known how to speak against it. Really start? Maybe, it’s because somehow so few have been educated on halloween’s history. Or the history of witches and witchcraft in our Country and around the world. Why, is it that so many attach or try to attach witches with Halloween? Witches have been seen in books and movies as ugly, evil and cruel! They were never suppose to become role models to our society, or children ever! In fact most don’t know what really has happened in there secret meetings, because they remain secret for a very specific
Members of Student Government are expected to all pitch in with making decorations. It takes weeks to complete especially because the decorations are handmade and intricate. Rio decorations included centerpieces with giant feathers and hand embossed dollar store rhinestones with Mardi Gras beads dangling from each feather made for 15 tables. Handmade mask was also added to the decorations of venue. Cardboard was cut into the shape of a masquerade mask, wrapped in vibrant crackle paper with gem stones hot glued to each one. Decorations are key to giving the atmosphere an authentic feel of the theme. Once all the decorations are ready to be place, the club members and their parents spend a whole day setting up for the upcoming night. It can be stressful with everyone’s efforts to make it prefect, but in the long run the place becomes outstanding to look
I then created a general overview of the script before writing the actual script. Going over my script with a fine tooth comb, I began to practice my presentation and gather my costume--making sure my presentation was under 10 minutes. Shopping around at Goodwill, Ditto’s, and many other used clothes stores, I used my previously found research and other websites on men’s clothing in the early 1900’s to gather my costume. Creating a small open space, I practiced as if I were on stage and made sure to maintain “eye contact” as I moved around my
No one had done this project before, so it was a challenge for us to get the permission from the school board and the Student Council. It was a mind-blowing and an extremely tired job to finish the proposal when not everyone in the grade was cooperating. “Please chose your character or the role as fast as you can!” I had been repeating this sentence every time when I met those who had not decide yet. The process was annoying and killing. Adding more details and deleting unimportant information on the proposal became my homework. Finally, we finished the proposal two weeks before Masquerade Night. We handed our proposal to the Student Council, and it was admitted the day we turned in since most of the members of the Student Council were in our grade.
You remember sam had one once, you were only five than so you couldn’t remember how he got it but you remember it looking like a scarecrow. Until this year you’ve never needed one, dad always made you stay in on halloween night so Dean would just buy candy and you and your brothers would eat candy and look out the window and try and figure out which costume was the most popular for that year. But now, you needed one, you couldn’t be the only kid in your class without one, how could you be in the costume parade without having a costume. You sat there thinking about what you could possibly throw together in one night with the things from the motel room, but you couldn’t think of anything.
Cosplay, the subculture that I have chosen to study, is when a person achieves identification by wearing costumes. This involves dressing up as characters from but not limited to works of fiction such as anime. Taken from the Japanese culture, the word “cosplaying” combines “costume” and “play.” Most people who are involved in cosplaying are interested in comics, anime, or video games. I got the chance to interview Becky, family friend, who identifies herself as a cosplayer. We sat down and talked about what it means to be someone who cosplayers. “cosplayers are simply fans. Some people openly say they are obsessed with things like anime and games. Some people, like myself, do it simply to be social.” But why would someone want to take up the identity of a fictional character to “be social” one would ask… Simply because being someone else for a period of time helps give them the confidence they simply do not have in their own body. Most of the characters people choose to cosplay send a bigger out a bigger message. The characters have a characteristic that the cosplayer wishes they had.
During this experience, I have had the honor of further deepening my interest in costume and design. In this paper, I show my research and what I got out of this opportunity. I learned how to effectively choose my costumes in order to create a sense of feeling in my films, and I also had the opportunity of seeing how professionals choose certain looks and clothes to show emotion in their films.
Cosplay has allowed people from all walks of life to create works of art. Individuals learn how to design, sew, and construct full costumes to bring their favorite character to life. The costume making process can take time ranging from a few days to several years. Costumes can require a lot of sewing and crafting experience depending on the character. Cosplayers learn different skills that they might not otherwise have learned.
First, we went to Walmart thinking we would just mess around in the toy aisle. To my surprise, we got distracted in all the Halloween stuff. So I started putting on random hats, and I watched people’s reactions. Finally, I had my question! How will people react to me dressing up in Halloween costumes? I had my question, now all I needed was an outfit.
