I adore Hallmark movies, and one of the best things about these sweet, romantic films is their expert use of music. Sometimes we hear established favorites from contemporary artists, which always puts me in the mood for singing along (yes, I admit, I've done that. Come on now, haven't you??) On the other hand, Hallmark also uses promising musicians like ROYAL, who boast a fresh, new sound. Although fairly well-known in Canadian circles, Hallmark fans will be able to hear her in Saturday's movie premiere, The Perfect Bride. In spite of her busy schedule, ROYAL took some time out to answer a few questions about how she got started as a musician, her first album, and her highly anticipated second studio album. Photo Credit: Michael Jaworski. RH: What were your earliest musical influences, and how did that help shape your style of music? R: My life has always been heavily saturated with a wide variety of music thanks to my parents. I don’t remember a time when the radio or record player wasn’t on, playing …show more content…
The competition and development program inspired and provided me with some unforgettable experiences. I was given the opportunity to showcase in front of panels of well-respected industry professionals including label and radio personnel and musicians. Also, I was paired with a band by the name of 36? to write an original piece, recorded by esteemed producer Warne Livesey (Midnight Oil, Matthew Good Band), which came second place in that competition and later received television placement. I wrote my two last singles during the competition; City Lights with electronica artist Conro, which now has over three million streams on Spotify through Monstercat Records; and Wild, which was released last fall and has inspired the sound of the upcoming album, Heart of Shadows. Overall The Peak Performance Project was an incredible experience which I am forever grateful
Debra Rathwell is the Senior VP for AEG Live. Rathwell oversees the active New York office of AEG along with being a force in national touring. Rathwell has more than 30 years of experience in the industry and her dedication inspires me. I know she is well respected in the industry and I think it is impressive that she books on average 800 shows every year. Being a woman in the music industry is a big challenge, but Rathwell proves to me and the world that being hard working will help prove yourself. The first step that really started Rathwell’s career was during her last year at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. Rathwell was Harvey Glatt’s assistant and went on to work as Bass Clef Entertainment, which partnered on shows with Canada’s concert leaders. This introduced Rathwell to the industry and the rest was like a snowball effect, one job led to another. Another step Rathwell took in her career was pivotal was joining Donald Tarlton for 12 years at DKD. With DKD, Rathwell managed a staff ...
CHAPTER NINE STUDY QUESTIONS – The Musical Theatre (Pgs. 243-259/247-261) 1. Describe some of the facts concerning the musical on Broadway (p. 244) (248). Broadway musicals can be characterized by aspects such as having multiple performances nearly every day of the week, having productions that tour the nation in hopes of attracting more audiences, and having large casts and orchestras (Cohen 248). 2.
In the 1920s, it was the birth of Jazz and the Blues. More importantly, black musicians/artists were becoming recognized during this decade, more before than the 1910s, due to this new genre of music. Since these artists were becoming recognized, three songs really catches the eye of this decade and represents the overall historic event of the 1920s; “social changes and profound cultural conflicts.”
People have dreams of what they want to do or accomplish in life, but usually musical theatre is just pushed into the non-realistic void. It isn’t a dream for me. In the past four years, musical theatre has been clarified as my reality. Musical theatre has been the only thing I have seen myself wanting to do. My first love was The Phantom of the Opera, seeing how I watched it almost every day and it was one of the first shows I saw. Of course, I started doing all of those cute shows in middle school and making a huge deal about it to my family and friends, but I have never felt so passionate about something. The minute I get up on that stage I throw away Riley for two and a half hours and it’s the most amazing feeling! Being able to tell a story
Today I will be presenting an analysis of my favourite song, “Fix You” by Coldplay. Since I was a little kid, in 2005, when it was first released, I have been listening to this song. My parents loved Coldplay at the time, so I was played their music since I was a baby, and I loved this song from the first time I listened to it. “Fix You” by Coldplay, is a rock song that deals with true love, helping someone in their time of need, and learning from your mistakes, but I d liken it to my personal, or childhood memories. Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin hasn't spoken about the specific inspiration for the song, but it could be directed to his wife, who was dealing with the death of her father in 2002. Martin did say where the song started: "My father-in-law Bruce Paltrow bought this big keyboard just before he died. No one had ever plugged it in. I plugged it in, and there was this incredible sound I'd never heard before. All these songs poured out from this one sound. I love its gentle and strong dynamics at different times and its mixed meanings to different people. Guy Berryman, Jon ...
This study demonstrated that pop music influences happiness mood. As hypothesized participants in the pop music category were influence by the music and seem happier. The analysis revealed that participants in the rock and classical music categories didn’t have an effect in their mood. The results for rock and classical music did not supported the hypothesis, which rock music causes a person to have an aggressive mood, and classical music will lead to a calmer mood. The data support the primacy effect pop music results supported the hypothesis that pop music leads to a happier mood. The results from this data support from previous literature research such as the pop category. The results could also interpret as support for (Hargreaves, 1999). People make their music preferences based on the emotional state they are in (Hargreaves, 1999). The analysis revealed that pop music scored higher than students who had rock or classical. The implications for this study are to examine if music influence mood in a negative or positive aspect). As an outcome happiness mood correlated with pop music . There wasn’t no effect between rock music and aggressive mood. Classical music didn’t have a relationship between classic music and calm mood. The results of this study wouldn’t be able to support (Jordana Mena, 2007). This consists of classical music being composed with different emotions based on the key and time signature it is on. If the classical piece is written in a higher key then they saw different mood responses than the classical pieces written in a low key (Jordan Mena, 2007). This study has provided that music is more than just a piece, of a lyric, beat, or instrument it has been proven that music can help people ...
Throughout history music has had a profound effect on a person’s mind, body, and consciousness. A song or piece of music can trigger vivid memories, and induce emotions ranging from deep sorrow to unabashed joy. Music can drive listeners to patriotic fervor or religious frenzy, or it can soothe the savage beast we call human. There have been many advances in technology that have let us study how music affects the brain. Music causes all sorts of activity in the brain, especially during musical improvisation. Music can tremendously help people with certain mind damaging diseases, and in some cases it can have negative effects.
With so many different cultures, races, religions, personalities, etc., it’s surprising how many fundamental things humans share. Music intertwines us all with its diversity and the effect it has on us. Whether you’re looking to rock out in a dance party, get a good workout in, sleep soundly, study hard, recover from a depressive state, or get the thrill of a super scary horror movie, music is there. Although listening to music is thought to be solely a source of entertainment, it can be used to improve almost all aspects of our everyday life.
American Studies is a difficult but interesting subject to try and understand, especially when looking at a few main themes such as authenticity and the folk. Two great examples that involve these themes are the publication of “Romancing the Folk” by Benjamin Feline and the film “O Brother Where Art thou” which have shown similar but different views on the two key themes, authenticity and the folk. The theme of authenticity within music has been altered by various groups of people as well as the artists themselves, for various different reasons. Another key theme is that of the government and how it has been helping the people to accept cultural differences, especially when you look at music. The analysis of the Lomax’s career in Benjamin Feline’s
In 1915, the Great Migration began growing. Many black people were moving North, leaving their slave status in the dust. As more of them move North, music became their way of connecting to one another and relieving the stresses of everyday life. Blues music was the music of the decade. The mournful tones of the genre struck the African American population in a unique way. With the influence of the Blues and the African American background, a new music era was born. Music blossomed in the 1920s because radios were invented, the jazz age, which was the theme of the time, and musical theater.
Theatre has heavily evolved over the past 100 years, particularly Musical Theatre- a subgenre of theatre in which the storyline is conveyed relying on songs and lyrics rather than dialogue. From its origination in Athens, musical theatre has spread across the world and is a popular form of entertainment today. This essay will discuss the evolution and change of musical theatre from 1980-2016, primarily focusing on Broadway (New York) and the West End (London). It will consider in depth, the time periods of: The 1980s: “Brit Hits”- the influence of European mega musicals, the 1990s: “The downfall of musicals”- what failed and what redeemed, and the 2000s/2010s: “The Resurgence of musicals”- including the rise of pop and movie musicals. Concluding
Do you know what it feels like to give everything you have into one performance and then get first place, because I do. The West Branch show choir competition provided me with the life lesson of perseverance, determination, hard work.
Music is a vital part of every day life for most people. It can be found, or heard, anywhere. Music is played on the radio, in moves, on television, on personal media devices, and at live concerts or outdoor venues. For some people music is purely for leisure or entertainment, and for others it is their hobby or career. As I reflect on my musical culture, music has always been an important aspect of my life. I was exposed to different genres of music at an early age, and I give my mother credit for that. Although she never received any musical training and had no knowledge of classical music, she loved all types of music and listened to many varieties. Naturally, my taste in music has changed throughout the years. I still listen to some of the same music from my childhood, but my preferences and experiences have expanded into a wider musical spectrum. Music has always been an important aspect of my life, and it continues to influence and shape my personal and social aspects of life.
My favorite musical moment during the event was when the band explained the meaning of a few songs performed. Each song announced had a different meaning and a different reason for it being written. For example, the one song was written after the Cleveland Cavaliers won the championship game and how they felt. This was interesting to hear because if you’ve grown up in Ohio for your whole life, you understand what that game meant to everyone. To hear how a song/ why a song was created was a unique experience, especially when for once you are able to relate to it. Honestly, it made the songs more interesting, since you were able to feel the passion for that song along with them!
Music dates back many centuries ago. Music was used for an array of things. In some cases, it was used for rituals, to pass messages, or even for celebrations. There are approximately five to six hundred genres of music currently in existent today. Most music would have been said to originate or birth from folk music in America and evolved overtime to form different genres of music. Music has a long history and connection to human beings and their behavior. Music can also affect someone’s behavior whether it be negatively or positively. There have been many studies and research on the effect of music towards human behavior. Specifically hip-hop and soundscape music seem to have the most interesting effects on human behavior. Moreover, to gain better understanding of how music effects human behavior knowing how the brain functions is also essential.
