Dragster cars. They’ve provided entertainment and a mental and physical challenge to kids of all ages. But now we’ve been challenged to make a CO2 powered dragster car. But why race the CO2 dragsters why do students race dragsters powered by CO2 besides it being part of the curriculum, it’s also a grade and really fun to do. But most people don’t even know what a dragster car is or the terminology that goes with it. Well for starters drag racing is a real sport they use these long FF1 racers that can reach speeds of up to 325MPH! This is no sport for the sake of heart it’s really dangerous but were not racing those FF1 cars were racing CO2 powered dragsters. CO2 is pressurized carbon dioxide. People use this to power the cars. You have to be careful when making your car. You have to make it so the car doesn’t create any Drag. Drag is pulling along forcefully, roughly, or with difficulty. Having too much drag will slow down your car. And that’s not good especially since a CO2 powered dragster can reach speeds of up 70 mph! To build a good …show more content…
Well first you going to need to build a dragster car preferably out of a wooded block like the ones you put under doors to hold it open. Okay now you have you model dragster car now you’re going to need CO2. The way you test your car is to get a long track about 3-4 inches wide and 12 feet long. You’ll also need string to hold on the track to keep it going straight. Finally you will need a hammer or something to trigger the co2 to explode. In doing this it will propel the car forward at a max speed of 70 miles per hour! Finally you will need some friends who also have a dragster car so you have someone to race against. For some extra fun you can get a ramp and place it at the end of the track to send your dragster car flying! Or for some extra extra fun tie a balloon to your dragster car to see how and how long it flies through the
Why do I Dragster? A question that at first may sound really weird. This question actually asks why would you want to race C02 cars. First, to understand what this is, lets start with the Basics.
The word demolition means collisions and hitting two objects together while derby mean a race. These two words put together creates a competitive place for people to enjoy derby cars. Demolition derby drivers come from long family history of drivers. The pasion starts when they are old enough to walk, helping dad at the garage. He can remember their first demolition derby going forty miles per hour, smashing into another car and coming in third. From that moment on, he was hooked. From my experience and research, I know there is a lot of time and effort that goes into building the car, participating in the demo derby, and keeping a driver and spectators safe and these are the three areas of focus on in this paper.
“Short track racing is always been a way of life and not just a hobby” Bryan Clauson. There's always been people into dirt racing as it is personally my favorite form of racing. This sport isn't all to safe as there has been a massive tragedy in 2016 of Bryan Clauson as he died at the Belleville Midget Nationals. This tragedy sent a shockwave through all sports from dirt to asphalt racing. There is a commitment when you strap into that racecar and that is there's no guarantee that your going to get out so there's always been losses and historical moments in dirt racing. There isn't always tragedies there's famous moments like the 2016 Dream at eldora when a 19 year old kid Bobby Pierce Jr. won the world's most famous dirt race. 2017 will bring new stars like Rico Abreu which has already committed to dirt from nascar and has already won 2 golden drillers from the world's most prestigious midget race, chili bowl nationals in Tulsa Oklahoma .
Each nitro dragster is equipped with a custom supercharged and fuel injected engine, which is the real power of the beast. Another very crucial part of the car is its parachute launch system, which if he drivers didn't have would be a very rough and maybe lethal stop. Also one of the most powerful parts of the machine is the gas which is a nitromethane. The dragsters can use up to fifteen gallons of nitromethane in only one run. Another fascinating fact is that the dragsters are twenty five feet long and two thousand three hundred and thirty pounds. The top fuel dragsters pull eight gs on launch, and also have have amazing drivers who react to the start light in less than a tenth of a second.. The “fire breathing monsters of the NHRA” as they are called are a man mad true feat of engineering. When you look back at how the NHRA started you would be shocked and amazed by the mechanics and systems that go into each nitro drag
Cars are a necessary part of our lives today. However, we also drive cars which suit our personal tastes and for pure enjoyment. Your car makes a major statement about your personality. Your vehicles are also a major investment and you want to do everything you can to keep them looking good for a long time. No matter what type of vehicle you have, whether it is a new car or a classic you should cover it with a car cover when not in use.
Top Fuel dragsters, the fastest-accelerating vehicles in the world, are the most recognizable of all drag race cars. These cars are limited to a 25-foot body and are very low to the ground. This is important because they are capable of covering the quarter-mile in less than 4.5 seconds at speeds in excess of 330 mph. A supercharger, fuel injection, or a nitro methane-burning engine may power these long narrow "missiles". In this class, it is easy for the cars to produce more than 6,000 horsepower.
Hundreds of thoughts swarm through my head, as I think of potential car and launcher designs. It was the beginning of 8th grade. A new year of middle school, a new year of Science Olympiad, a new year of studying for my events, and a new year of challenges: my first building event, Scrambler. I’ve always been interested in science, specifically medicine, ever since I was 7 or 8. I read a book called When I Grow Up, I Want to Be a Doctor, which inspired me to aspire to become a doctor. Ever since then, I’ve been exploring the field of science and medicine through a variety of learning experiences such as Science Olympiad, a science competition consisting of several events that cater to a variety of fields in science. This year, my partner and I were faced with the task of building a mechanical vehicle, powered by a falling mass, that is capable of traveling down a straight, level track with a barrier at the end while carrying an
Jump start your car racing career early. If you are still very young, it’s a good idea to get the feel of the track by getting involved in go-kart racing. This is, of course, not the same thing as touring car racing, but it will teach you balance and how to negotiate turns. It is also a good tool to learn the basics of passing, braking and the rules of the track. Car racing simulators and indoor karting will make you sharper and give you the opportunity to polish up on your technique.
...both worlds for its purpose, the dragster. The Dragster has extremely wide rear tires for acceleration and to keep it going straight. The dragster has extremely thin tires in the front to reduce rolling resistance and because handling is not a concern the car goes in a straight line it does not need to turn.
Tires are the most important part of race or any car for that mater. (Physics of Racing) After all they are the only thing that is contact with the ground! Tires work by having a high coefficient of friction. Some slicks have a friction coefficient grater then 1! (Physics of Racing) Typical normal street tires have coefficient of about .5 to .6 . In physics we learned that friction was equal to mew times the normal force. Since race cars are typical much lighter then normal cars, they use tricks to increase the downward force on the tires. Some drag tires run really low pressure, other drag cars tune the car to lift the front wheels to put all the weight on the rear tires. Indy cars use a wing to generate down force, and ventures to suck the car to the ground. (How to Make Your Car Handle)
First, a little information about the WRC. Perhaps one of the most demanding racing sports, the WRC consists of cars racing over courses in some of the most breathtaking locations around the world. From Japan, to Greece to Finland, the races take place in over 15 countries. What sets the WRC apart is the physical location of the races. There are few paved roads, or nicely banked curves. Most of the driving is done “off-road.” This means that the conditions are extremely varied, from gravel to rocks, rain, snow, anything is fair game. Because of this, the teams must evaluate the course and choose the proper car parts to use. The courses are not a straight line either. They wind back and forth, up and down over different surfaces. To aid the driver, a co-driver rides shotgun, giving out commands that let the driver know what lies ahead. The cars are timed against each other, but not run along side each other. Many of the courses are only wide enough for a single car to pass through at a time. Thus, the cars are sent out in intervals, and the resulting times measured against each other after completion. With this background on the WRC, let’s examine the different web sites that provide information about this sport to its fans.
Every running car has to have an exhaust system. If you want a lot of speed, you would want a racing exhaust system. A racing exhaust system contains a racing header, a provision pipe with a custom tip. Mini draggers are another approach for looks, sound, and some speed. You can hear a mini dragger from miles away. My mommy always told me “If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say it all”.
Though the aircraft is a more used example the automobile has many of the same principles of drag, lift, gravity, thrust, and weight which is created by gravity. If an automobile was on a race track with no created wind or wind at all would go faster than with wind because it would not have any drag. That is why NASCAR drivers go in a line or stay behind one or others there is no wind to produce drag to go faster. Automobiles started using aerodynamic body shapes in the early part of their history. As engines became more powerful and cars became faster, automobile engineers realized that wind resistance significantly hindered their
Aerodynamics is extremely important for the high performance of race cars. A simple change on the angle of spoilers can make the difference between winning and losing. Functioning at such high speeds, race cars are constantly susceptible to large amounts of drag due to the velocity the vehicle and the ever-changing airflow around the car. Manufacturers across the world are constantly performing numerous tests with wind tunnels and other medians to minimize drag, and maximize the ability of a race car to speed smoothly through turbulent air. One must fully understand the aerodynamic concepts and processes at work when a race car speeds around the track, in order
As a young boy playing with Hot wheels was amazing. Then I asked if my sister wanted to play but she said “Sorry I can’t play because those are for boys". What I loved to do while playing with hot wheels as a young boy was pretending that I was speeding through highways in fast cars. Traditionally society believes Hot Wheels are meant for boys because cars were recognized as masculine for their dark colors and the power of the engine under the hood. On the other hand, girls like to play with dolls for their form of beauty and the brightness of their colors. They can do her hair or dress her up. Society has conditioned others to believe that certain toys reflect the expectations that society have on men with being brave, tough and rich.
