Therapy helps people make beneficial adjustments in life and solve many of their everyday problems or issues. There are many different types of therapies to chose from. One can choose a therapy most appealing to them in order to benefit from it. Therapy varies in many different ways, using many activities that all in result in a decrease of stress. One can achieve many benefits from therapy. For example, color therapy is supposed to brighten one’s mood through the use of coloring and drawing. You are relieved of stress and said to have a calm spirit after sessions of therapy. The body is said to have reached a state of homeostasis through therapeutic activity. Therapy benefits people’s lives tremendously by many different ways. Color therapy is a type of therapy that offers many benefits to uprising someone’s spirit where one colors in order to destress and reach a happy state of mind. ... By scheduling an activity that the client can participate in and complete, it can give them a sense of mastery in a specific task. This can be beneficial for the client to feel accomplished. Another technique that I feel can be beneficial in therapy is role-playing. Role-playing can be helpful for a client to learn how to dispute irrational beliefs by becoming aware of negative feelings towards theses beliefs (Tan, 2011). In addition, role-playing can help the client to overcome their emotions and practice coping skills that are more effective. The last technique I would incorporate into therapy would be relaxation training. I would suggest ways that can help the client relax including, deep breathing, meditation, yoga, a massage or exercising. By getting the client to have methods to relax, I think it can help with managing their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
Recreational therapy works with populations such as mental health, gerontology, pediatrics, veterans, and many more populations that involve individuals with and without a disability, allowing their scope of practice to be very broad. Recreational therapists work with clients to restore motor, social and cognitive functioning, build confidence, develop coping skills, and integrate skills learned in treatment settings into community settings.
