Cancer actually refers to many diseases instead of only one. Cancer, also known as malignancy, takes place when cells begin to grow and multiply in an uncontrollable manner. Cancer today is very common to find. It is not uncommon to find someone’s family member has a past history of cancer. But then again, what is cancer? If it is so common why do we know so little about it? While normal cells just grow, divide, then later die cancer cells grow and divide multiple times before death. And soon these cells gather together to create a tumor. The article further explains that tumors are basically lumps that interfere with the body’s regular process of doing things. Many today are working to understand why some people gain the disease while others don’t. Yet even so doctors over the years have some ideas of what causes cancer. The main idea doctors have concluded on is genetics and triggers in environment or behavior. Some cancers are thought to travel through families. As in for example, if your mom had cancer in the chest, it increases the chance you may also have cancer in the chest. Then there is the thought of triggers, where a behavior(s) or environment can shift the cells into the cancerous state.
