The church's architecture over all is simple. It is 24 by 34 square feet and set on a stone wall. It is a frontier style cabin and is made from hand hewn logs, which are notched at each end so that they fit together snugly at the corners. The roof is shingled...

Some widely known about, some not so much. One that’s probably most known about the airport is that Buddy Holly and the Crickets took off from there before they crashed. With pilot Roger Peterson, the plane crashed in field north Clear Lake(flymcw.com). One less popular one is that the first official flight in Mason City was in 1911 as stated by iagenweb.org. June 25-26, 2015 was the first airshow held at our airport since 1996. The airshow shows off different WW planes, with a firework show and interactives according to mcwairshow.com. Did you know that not one but two aviation role models have come to the airport? Charles Lindberg came to the dedication ceremony of the new airport in 1927. Amelia Earhart also came to the building in 1933 to speak about her solo across the Atlantic. My personal favorite, there was a time capsule buried in 1996 at the site of the airport that will be dug up in

The house was built in 1917 by William Bowers Bourn, a San Francisco millionaire whose wealth came from gold mining . Construction of the large property took 2 years, while it took 12 years to build the formal gardens, which were completed in 1929. Its name was created by Bourn, using the first 2 letters from the key words of his credo: “Fight for a just cause; Love your fellow man; Live a good life.” After the deaths of Bourn and his wife in 1936, it was purchased by William Roth, another prominent San Franciscan, who pr...
Place #4 Castillo De San Marcos is a national monument in northeastern Florida. It is the site of the oldest masonry fort in the U.S. It was built by the Spanish (1672–95) to protect St. Augustine. The fort played an important role in the Spanish-English struggle for the Southeast. In the 19th century it served as a U.S. military prison. It is a tourist attraction mainly because it is believed to be haunted. Although, tourists that go are more likely to be taught about the history of the fort by a park ranger than encounter a ghost.
Lin's work, unlike most previous military monuments, rejects the emphasis on heroics in favor of a poignant, contemplative, apolitical design which conveys an almost unbearable sense of loss. Simple, graceful, and abstract, the design specified two 246.75 foot long walls of polished black southern India granite, set below grade and connected at a 125 degree angle.2 Each segment of the wall is composed of 70 panels. At their intersection, the walls are 10.1 feet high and they taper down to a height of 8 inches at their extremities.3 The largest panels have 137 lines of names.4 The smallest panels have just one line. Each line consists of five names, which were sandblasted into the polished surface by hand, rather than cut into it with machine tools.5 Currently, the monument wall lists the names of 58,175 members of the armed forces who were confirmed killed or listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War.6

...ent compared to the years it held a prison camp. It no longer has thousands of people working behind it's gates. Nor does it have guards surrounding the area. Today it has long rows of graves. A remembrance of all the lives lost.
... sits on Webster Bay. It has been in my family since the early nineteen sixties when my grandma bought a cabin and her sisters bought the cabin right next to it. It was constructed by the late Wally Ecklund who did a marvelous job building it according to some newer contractors. Right now my cabin is in the process of being remodeled. We have an excellent lake view with a beautiful natural sand beach. It is my favorite place to be on the face of this earth.
...eas. The primary attraction of the town is the Ollantaytambo Fortress, located on the edge of the settlement in a section known as the Temple Hill. A monument close from the fortress is the Wall of the Six Monoliths, a towering section of wall composed of six large sections. Archaeologists believe that the construction of the wall was abandoned before its completion and the reasons are remain unknown. Some might believe that the Spaniards swiped the Incas out of the region.
Each block weighs fifty tons! They would thatch the roofs with tree trunks and straw. After the buildings were constructed, the Incan people would smooth the stones with sand, mud, and clay to make the structures look polished. The people who inhabited this ancient site considered it to be magical because of the Andes Mountains and the Amazon River. The Temple of the Condor was a place of worship where the head of the condor was used as an altar for sacrifices.
