Carp Angling
Have you ever thought to yourself "I wish I could go back in time knowing what I know now?" There would undoubtedly be things you would have done differently, chances you would have taken, and probably some you wouldn't have.
Think about this in your carp angling, how good would it have been to be the first to use sweetcorn like Chris Yates at Redmire, or the first on the hair rig like Len Middleton and Kevin Maddocks.
Well a few years ago I realised that a lot of what was 'new' in carp angling, had in fact simply been reinvented or even just repackaged, particularly with regards to some of the methods and baits being written about.
Particles, pellets, P.V.A. and the method, are a few examples of what are considered effective

Fishing there had a number of advantages, firstly you'd catch a lot which was good for the enthusiasm, and the experience also helped you become a better angler, however the main advantage was that a number of the 'Big Names' (and there were only really a handful compared to nowadays) used Stanbrough to try out their latest inventions, and so it was that we were very often amongst the first anglers to find out what the most up-to-date methods being used were.
I remember the first time I ever saw the 'Hair Rig', a couple of anglers had been using it for a couple of months over there and absolutely hammering the place, but they'd always unhook the carp in the net and kept the rig well hidden. Finally someone I knew got in with them and like anyone with such a secret, couldn't wait to show it off. They showed him, he showed me. That's how it was, there wasn't weekly or monthly carp magazines giving away all the secrets then, you simply had to find it out for

Getting back to the here and now, I had all these thought processes going on in my head I finally took the difficult decision to fish for carp in a way that I hadn't done for almost 20years and use the 'Original Hair Rig' as described in Kevin Maddocks's fully revised 4th edition of 'Carp Fever'. Of course my ESP hooks were obviously more advanced then the 'Jack Hiltons' I used on the rig in the 80's, as was the mono I was now using, but other then that the principal and set up remained unchanged.
The first of the two waters I was fishing responded immediately, and in the 6 months I fished the lake I was out catching other anglers by about 3:1! The second water I took the rig to proved even better. This lake was far more difficult due to the constant pressure the fish were under, however the Hair Rig did the trick and once again far out fished the other anglers. I further tested it by using the same bait on both of my two rods but with my favoured 'Snake Skin' set up on one of them. The results were conclusive as the Hair Rig rod out fished the Snake Skin rod time after
Over the years, as the world has evolved, fishing methods were improved as well, and, especially from the 20th century, several changes had forced the way the fishery was done in North Atlantic. As world population was increasing quickly, the cod demand has grown tremendously. New technologies were introduced and thus catch rates of northern cod began to exceed the hazardous limits of the stock’s ability to rebuild. This fact summed with another that will be shown below led to the cod collapse in the Atlantic Canada by the 90’s.
Since three-forth of the world is composed of bodies of water, it’s natural that a great number of people rely on fishing for their livelyhood or just for their recreation needs. There are numerous of fish species swimming under the lakes, seas, ponds, and rivers. Most anglers consider fishing as the delight in their purpose-driven life, a sport, as they say.
Carp fishing seems always to have been surrounded by a certain aura of magic and mystery, particularly on the more secluded and intimate waters. It's sad that much of this has been dispelled with the carp boom of the last few years. The hair-rig started the rot, and the ready made boilie finished it off! But reading through many angler's experiences, especially on Redmire, one wonders if, at times, there are other influences at work. I don't know why there should be, or why it would seem to apply only to carp fishing. Perhaps because, of all the angling methods, the pursuit of carp gives more time for contemplation, more time for outside forces to get into the mind. Or maybe these strange happenings are
In the early 1900s people from Italy started to arrive on ship. They first arrived in Detroit, Michigan and later immigrated to Gloucester, to fish like they did back in the old country. Children, as young as ten years old went fishing to make a living for their family. When they first came the fishing industry was booming. There was no limit to how long you could fish or how much you could catch. Many men went fishing for weeks at a time. When Italian fishermen came upon the Atlantic off what is now Cape Cod, the waters churned with schools of fish. When they came nearly 800 of them in Boston and Gloucester combined became fishermen. In New England, cod was king. Enriched by a West Indies trade of fish for molasses, boat owners were referred to as the "codfish aristocracy. Sadly in the late 1990s the fishing industry went downhill and changed for the worst. (.)
Conclusively and strongly stressed to the naive freshwater fisherman, freshwater fishing can shockingly differ from saltwater fishing. Successful freshwater fishing is allowed by simpler and more practical means, including a wider range of lure selections, limp and simple line, and the lightest of gear. It has minimal demands on fishermen and equipment. Saltwater fishing, on the other hand, surely does not.

You can catch grass carp off the surface or on the bottom and they will eat a lot of the same baits that the common carp will, and one of the best surface baits I have found is Bagels. I like the doughy texture of the bagel and it performs well as bait. It will float for 30 plus minutes and still be firm enough to hold
“Just show me the tackle and give me some bait. Then watch me go fishing, the rest can wait.” Fishing is one of my favorite things to do. It is catching a fish for either food or simply for fun. You can do it by yourself to enjoy the peace and quiet or fish with others to pass the time. Many people think fishing is an old man's sport but I think of it differently. It has helped to form my values, most importantly patience.
The thing that is easiest for everybody to learn while fly fishing physics is the arm movements. We probably all know the basics for the most part right? You pull the rod back then have your arm do a throwing motion and then stop and then send the fly flying right? Well that’s it for the most part but there is still more to learn with arm movements. In the magazine Fly Fisherman there was an article that gave a great tip. Their tip is “Try not to move your arm or wrist like a windshield-wiper blade. Instead, your
You're planning a vacation to Hawaii and want to do some fishing while here. If you're planning to hop on a charter sport fishing boat or some other commercial offshore excursion, you don't have anything to worry about except for showing up at the dock on time.
Various types of fishing can help improve your mind and body, irrespective of your experience or interest. If you are looking for a great way to unwind, stay fit and de-stress, then consider
Fishing Tips This is a list of things that I have learned over the years fishing on sportfishing boats. Some of this may seem common knowledge if you’re an avid angler, but if you are a newbie then this might be helpful. I’m sure this is not a complete list, so if you have something to add feel free to send me an email so I can add it to the list. 1) Prepare for your trip a) Before you head out, make sure you have your fishing license. If you do not have one, you can pick one up at most tackle shops, Walmart, online or at the landings.
First, when fishing, equipment is very important. It would not be prudent to bring knife to a gunfight, and fishing is just the same. When catching 500 lb. swordfish in saltwater it is important to not bring an ultra-light fly rod. The first step to having the correct equipment is identifying the species to be targeted. Let’s say the target is black bass. Then it id important to have a bait-casting reel with 15 to 20 lb. test line, and a heavy action rod with plenty of length for good hook set. Now I’m not saying it is impossible to catch a bass on lighter tackle, and there is probably fun to be had doing it as well. It is just that this is the most efficient way. Lures and or bait are also extremely important pieces of equipment when fishing. Some examples of lures for black bass would be spinners, jigs, plastic worms, top-water lures, and buzz baits. Bait for black bass fishing would be live minnows, crawfish, or worms, and some dead baits work too such as cut pieces of shad.
Unfortunately, the strength of braided line is not always an advantage as it can be difficult to cut and can be dangerous if not handled properly. The lack of stretch on braided lines is another issue, especially when trolling, as is its decreased abrasion resistance compared to monofilament. In addition, tying knots requires a lot more skill with braided lines and since it is not as clear as monofilament you often need to use leaders otherwise fish will see the line.
