Fishing Tips
This is a list of things that I have learns over the years fishing on sportfishing boats. Some of this may seem common knowledge if you’re an avid angler but if you newbie then this might be helpful. I’m sure this is not a complete list so if you have something to add feel free to send me an email so I can add it to the list.
1) Prepare for your trip
a) Before you head out make sure you have your fishing license. If you do not have one you pick one up at most tackle shop, Walmart, online or at the landings. Even though you can get a license at the landing I recommend picking one up before you hand so that you are not holding up the line.
b) If fishing in Mexico make sure you have your passport (if fishing within 12 miles of the coast in Mexico, but even if going offshore not a bad idea to have it, I
If you are going on a tuna trip you may need to put on new line if you are using mono. If using a braided line then you may need to add a new top shot to your main line.
f) Knowing how to tie your hooks or lures onto your fishing line can mean the difference between landing a fish and losing a fish. There are many resources on the internet to show you some good knots. I suggest you learn at least at least one very well. A few of the knots I recommend are “San Diego Jam”, “Palomar” both are very good strong knots. http://www.animatedknots.com/ is a great resource for learning knots.
2) Listen to Deckhands
If you are on a sportfishing boat listen to advise offered by the deckhands they will help you get fish. They are on water fishing on a daily basis and know what works and what doesn’t. If deckhands are suggesting size 2/0 hook don’t be that guy that decides to uses 4/0 hooks yeah you might still catch something on it but chances are you will not catch anything. The bottom line is listen to the deckhands they want you to catch fish and to have a great trip on their
When it comes to bass fishing techniques, there is a plethora of information out there that can be confusing for the beginning angler to sort through. By understanding just a few basic techniques, you can cut through all of the information and get the fundamental knowledge that you need in order to successfully catch your first bass. Then as you gain experience, you will be able to build upon the basics that you have learned to become an expert bass fisherman.
There are two things that should be considered in bass fishing, which are, the bass location on the lake or river and bass catching using different techniques, presentations and baits.
On the first casts with our modified lures, we got bites and set our hooks, but only to the dismaying result of slackened line. Upon retrieval, we fou...
Some of the motor skills needed are coordination, stabilization, gripping and transporting. You need to be able to grip the bait in your hands while putting it on the rod, as well as grip the fishing pole once you have cast your bait into the water. Stabilization is also important. My family fishes on a solid dock, but some people fish on floating docks or on boats which makes keeping your balance essential for this activity. Transportation is an important motor skill when fishing. While fishing you have to be able to transport your bait from the bait bucket onto the hook, then you have to transport the hook and line from the top of the reel into the water, and then once you catch a fish you have to transport the fish off the hook and either back into the water or into storage. Even though there are many different processing skills to fishing I believe that coordination is the most important skill of fishing. While fishing you have to hold the rod in one hand, and turn the handle of the reel with the other all while maintaining your balance. You are constantly faced with completing multiple tasks a once, and coordination will help keep the activity running
Since the start of time, humans have been catching fish. The sport has, in many ways, evolved hugely, and yet in many aspects has stayed exactly the same. To me fishing is unique and I find it can be anything from relaxing to a very intense experience.
Fishing contains a wide variety of physics. when you cast you are using projectile motion and rotational motion. when you hook a fish it will often use the drag from the current agenst you. Immagine draging a fish through a swift current. You deal with the tention of your line, and the friction of the line through the guides. you also deal with friction when you use a drag.
Open water fishing is pretty much self-explanatory but open water fishing is what most people do because it doesn’t need a lot of equipment. Open water fishing is usually done between late or early spring depending on
Since the 1940’s, spearfishing, the art of hunting prey without a line, in its own environment, has been a popular sporting activity. How do you learn to spearfish? You must first decide what type of a fisherperson you would like to be. Would you want to hunt with scuba equipment making it easier to dive to greater depths? Or would you like to stay close to the surface without the heavy gear? There are two types of spear fishermen, the people that are freedivers, who dive without the gear, and people that require an air supply, otherwise known as scuba method. The freedive has very little equipment; a mask, optional snorkel, fins, and the speargun of your choice. It is the simplest form of spearfishing, and yet it is said to be the most challenging (Allen Patrick 6). A diver must hold his breath on the surface, “pike dive” and descend, while trying to clear his ears and equalize pressure(6). The ears must also be cleared with the scuba method, so this is not only for freedivers. The scuba method, much more gear intensive, first and foremost requires that you have a recreational diving license. Diving by in itself requires skill and education, so it is advisable for a aspiring spearfisherman to obtain a diving license before heading down to the local speargun shop. You must have a mask that properly fits their face, fins, an air cylinder with a regulator that makes it possible to breath, the appropriate weight belt to decrease and increase buoyancy, along with the buoyancy compensator, that holds you cylinder in place (Patrick 11-13).
The thing that is easiest for everybody to learn while fly fishing physics is the arm movements. We probably all know the basics for the most part right? You pull the rod back then have your arm do a throwing motion and then stop and then send the fly flying right? Well that’s it for the most part but there is still more to learn with arm movements. In the magazine Fly Fisherman there was an article that gave a great tip. Their tip is “Try not to move your arm or wrist like a windshield-wiper blade. Instead, your
One of the the quickest ways to get up to local speed is a simple trip to one of the local fishing supply stores. And that's not to include some of the easier-to-find big box retailers that while offering the tackle and supplies you might require are generally lacking in the local

As the sport of bass fishing grows, everything seems to be changing rapidly. New Products are being created all of the time. Innovation Is not uncommon at all. Since the sport of fishing is changing so often, so should the fisherman. The reason why is because you could get left behind easily. Fisherman that are finding new rigs and different techniques catch more fish because they are utilizing the fact that the bass have not seen this kind of lure or presentation. The same thing goes for fishing line. It can catch you fish… or cost you them.. New fishing line could help you get fish out of heavy
Although it is possible to paddle out in your kayak and catch a fish using just about any fishing line, some will yield much better results than others. Depending on what you are trying to catch, using the right fishing line for the job can turn the experience from a frustrating struggle to something a little more enjoyable. However, there are a couple of different types of fishing lines to choose from and all of them have their own pros and cons. Anglers often put a lot of time and research into purchasing the best fishing kayak and equipment, but neglect to do the same for their fishing lines. This often results in the fishing line being the weakest link in their setup, which can cause a lot of missed opportunities. Shopping for new fishing line isn’t as glamorous or exciting as
But is obtaining a license really that important? Yes, it is. Apart from ecological impact that fishing without a license has, you could end up with a ticket and/or additional fines. Current with the 2018 FWC site, here are the consequences that you could face if you fish without the proper licenses in Florida.
