Different forms of ways for people to connect have evolved throughout the years. From media emergence to media convergence, people had put mere thoughts or ideas of better communication into the technology every person owns today today. Media has made a way throughout the world, changing as people discovered and invented new ways for more and more people to connect with more people. Understanding how media had evolved through developments, ways of influence, and convergence can help people have a better understanding of media.

Back in the day, children would play outside or read books. Before the invention of television, people had to find other means of entertainment. However, books are still being read by people of today. Books have shown different opinions of different writers and have proven to change the way a person may think. Romance stories have women looking for more romance, for example. The same goes for newspapers, although newspapers are more informative of what may be going on around the world. The creation of radios allowed people to use voices to deliver a message. With the invention of televisions, people created the different television shows. Radios then started playing music. Television had then showed shows that constantly had people thinking (Singer, 2008). Whatever channel people surfed throughout the years, television shows would make people feel. People would then react to feelings. Television and radios have also raised the people's freedom of speech, allowing people to argue on talk shows. Now that there is the internet, people write blogs and reviews on certain products or locations that might be or might not be suitable for other people. People have based decisions on what other people have to say. Since media convergence is the latest evolution of media, media sources are now accessible from just one device. People can receive incoming sources of media from all devices that can now access news, emails, and other messages without the need to drive to the office or home. Eventually television began to grow and advertising started taking over and that is where people started to turn to get their news. A new variety of shows began demonstrating real life family situations and comedies. People began to relate and also see life from a different perspective and that impacted peoples values and morals.
Many of the technological advancements in entertainment helped people live a much happier and exciting life. The television was wanted by almost every average American family in this decade and overwhelmed millions of baby-boomer children who’s relationship with TV has influenced the United States’ culture and politics. Media has had many changes in the past years. Growing up I remember my mom saying that we were lucky to have color televisions now. She would say that when she was younger she would have to hear her stories and games over the radio because back then there was no televisions. Another way of getting entertained was reading stories. The newspaper and the radio was the only way of getting news back then. I thought it was funny when my mom told me that since they were one of the few families that had a television in the neighborhood, she would charge the kids 10 cents to watch television in her house. This was actually a pretty smart thing to do.
From its beginnings, media has always been distributed through networks. Though the networks of today differ greatly from those of before, the basic concept remains the same. There are many definitions of what a network is, and there are numerous types of networks. Media is connected to, and makes use of, more than just one of these types of networks. With the use of today’s expansive and complicated technology, more of these networks are being made accessible to media companies. This essay will be looking at what networks are, the essentially symbiotic relationship between them and media, and will analyse the effects of this relationship on the world at large.
Ever since television was first introduced to America, it has changed the culture. It’s affected American families in positive and negative ways. The resultant cultural convergence brings about deep changes even in the established media companies, as they have had to reconsider the prevailing cultural consumption of the media (Martnez & Alonso, 2015). Considering the enabled ease to media multi-task, as Martnez & Alonso (2015) argue, users find new forms of content consumption with an interactivity that facilitates media consumers to simultaneously assume the content producer and consumer roles because of the capacity to operate from any device. The enhanced quality and flexibility in consumption and dissemination enhance the demand for media among users whose needs were not met previously (Martnez & Alonso, 2015).
Newspapers have been around since the early 18th century, gaining prominence after 1790 during the colonial era. Magazines followed right behind newspapers and gained popularity as well, television followed last, booming with popularity in the 1960’s. Television is still the most often used source for news and other information such as the weather. But new forms of mass media are on the rise, such as channels, blogs and podcasts, which have been around since the early 2000’s but are now picking up momentum and gaining prominence as a news source.
