Social Media
In the past, it was hard to stay connected to people who didn’t live near or close by to you. The only ways you met people were actually going out and physically meeting people or through friends and family. For some people it was hard to stay in touch with people if they moved away. In today’s world digital technology has changed the way we communicate through many different ways. Social media is one way that has changed the way everybody communicates. It is revolutionizing the way we communicate in a more efficient way through the workplace, our lives, and the way we connect and stay connected to one another. With that being said, social media sites such as, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram has helped make communication a faster

A study that was done in 2009, showed that 73 percent of all adults older than the age of 18 had Facebook profiles. (Percentage of adult users who maintain profiles on selected social networking sites, by age group, 2009.) This shows that most people in the world use Facebook on a daily basis. Facebook allows you to post statuses about how you feel, what you are doing, or even where you are. Users that are interested in those things may be your friends, family, or other users that find the same things interesting. Posting things to your wall can help you stay connected to the world, unless your profile is private, because it tells people what you are up to. Users that are interested in what you have to say will reply to your post. Replying to people’s post could potentially lead to another conversation that you guys would have in common, which then can lead to a new relationship.
Another way to meet people on Facebook is through instant messaging or IM. Instant messaging on Facebook is an exchange of texts, but in real time. It’s a direct message usually private between a person or a group that instantly goes to the person or people you want to read them. This helps you stay connected to people because it allows you to directly write someone without everybody seeing it. It’s a private way to share your thoughts, ideas, and feelings with one another. Also you can from groups by adding people who might want to share their opinion, but in a more secret
Facebook is a great place to communicate in many ways with other people. One way you can communicate is by finding answers to any questions you might have. For example, if there is question I have about a class assignment, I simply can login to Facebook and send my friend a private message asking him what I need help with. It is a fast, easy, and simple. Many students use Facebook, so it’s a great communication tool to use to get quick help from your friend. Sometimes you might have forgotten what page number a homework assignment was on. If you don’t have a student’s cell phone number, with Facebook, you can easily contact someone in your class and find out more details about the assignment. You can also communicate with other people through Facebook groups. Facebook groups can be created about any topic. The groups often have a message or purpose that the creator is trying to get across. Users are able to join these groups and share their ideas with each other. Facebook events are another way users can communicate. For example, someone might be planning a birthday party at their house and would like to spread the news to as many friends as possible in a quick and organized way. Facebook event invitations allow users to provide all the details about the event, like time and location, and this can be sent to multiple users at one
Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms have become one of the central activities in human affairs. Used by people around the world promoting communication, social media gives scope to everyone to exhibit their ideas and thoughts. The plethora of social platforms is a revolutionary invention that is changing the way of how people moderate and communicate with others in their daily lives. Although many people admire this revolutionary concept, it can be argued that it has a negative impact on society. Extensive usage of social media can cause addiction, affecting productivity, and also reduce the level of human interaction, which in turn leads to isolation. Social media is correlated to many of the issues that revolve feminism and mental illness through anthropology, sociology and psychology.
Today’s society revolves around social media and impacts each person in a different way. The occurrence of giving and receiving “likes” and the desire of today’s teens to increase views, shares, comments, and likes are not only helping improve someone’s profile, but also of the brands that they like. As companies observe the data collected, the social media marketers work together to carefully turn “likes” into profit for the brand. People have no idea what the value of liking something is. The more teens that utilize social media, the more money companies are likely to make.
Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and other social networking sites have transformed the way we interact with one another. As Jurgenson stated in his article, “we aren’t friends until we are Facebook friends” (130). Social media is a tool which enables us to dive deeper into individuals’ lives. By becoming connected on social media, it is easy to feel as though you know a person better; knowing who they are friends with, what they like/dislike, and random facts make it possible and practically effortless to get to know someone without actually interacting with them. Newer generations, like millennials and the currently growing generation z, consistently use technology as a way to stay up to date with friends or acquaintances, even if it is not face to face or text to text. The way a person presents themselves online is seen as a reflection of their true selves; whether it be false or not, we can learn about a person’s entire life solely based off of their digital accounts. If someone had no form of social media or online interaction, it would be almost impossible to stay in the loop of everyone around them, thus technology has become something expected of
There is no secret that a modern day teenager’s life is built around the usage of technology. As a result of society’s heavy reliance on technology, social media has become popular amongst people who are “technologically advanced.” Though there is a wide variety of social sites that can be accessed through modern day technology, a few have become very popular. Social sites which have become widely popular among teens include Instagram, Tumblr, and Snapchat. These social networking sites provide instant social connection and emotional support while letting teens post and send pictures of their everyday life. Many teens look towards social media for emotional support and social acceptance. The continual usage of these sites are negatively impacting the self- esteem of teenagers worldwide since they heavily rely on social medias to portray images of what they believe is acceptable for the society we live in.
On the other hand, Facebook is a tool that allows everyone to stay in touch, easily and quickly. Before social media, there was no mass personal information sharing, other than sending a mass email. Many argue that Facebook allows for bonds to stay strong and friends and family to stay in contact. This point is valid since before Facebook if someone wanted to know about another person they had to actively seek information. Facebook presents it to you in the “news feed,” just as a newspaper presents its news. Going by the concept of technology is what we make of it, Facebook allows you to stay close with people you are already close with, outside of the digital world, and does nothing to the relationships that have no real outside foundation.
Social media is used by many people, young and old around the world as a way to communicate. Our lives have become so busy that it is difficult to maintain family and social relationships. “They use social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. On these sites users create profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research and share thoughts, photos, music, links and more” (Social Networking). With the use of social media you can be friends with all sorts of people without actually seeing or knowing them. “In many ways, social communities are the virtual equivalent of meeting at the general store or at church socials to exchange news and get updated on friends and families” (Cosmato).
Does anyone you know currently use either Facebook, Twitter or both as their social media networks? Do you yourself have an account on Facebook, Twitter, or both? There are many ways Facebook and Twitter are influences as social networks. Facebook was launched on February 4th 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and several other Harvard students (Lüsted 98). The first version of Twitter was launched on March 21st 2006 by Jack Dorsey (Lüsted 101). Laura Solomon argues that without any doubt Facebook is at the top of every other social network out there. “How-ever, as of this writing, there is no question that Facebook is the undisputed king of social networks” (Solomon 87). “Twitter has entered the
A person’s life is reflected on Facebook. Because so much of someone’s life is on Facebook, anyone can have a sense of what is going on in their life. This is beneficial for parents away from their children in college or just away from the nest. A visual image is more attractive than reading a lengthy blog about an individual's day. With Facebook someone can post albums at a time and can share a special event that just recently occurred. Instant messaging has improved the speed that users can communicate with each other. If they see that their friend is online all that needs to be done is a message with the word “Hey.” Facebook allows for users to connect with friends time zones away.
Social media can help people communicate over long distances. For example, if you had a friend that moved to Colorado or if you have a friend in another country, it would be easier to remain in contact with them. In the article “Is Technology Killing Our Friendships?” “Kids can stay in constant contact with each other”. This way kids who don’t have the same classes in school can stay in contact at home.

Technology has made the lives of many people easier.
People are able to communicate anytime with each other without fear of disrupting anyone. People can’t call each other at two in the morning, but they can send each other an email or comment on some’s profile picture. That makes people more connected and more involved in each other’s lives. “Social media tools can be a gre...
First of all, social media has made it possible for people, or even families, who live far away from each other to communicate easily. Before, people used to communicate through writing letters and having them sent through the mail, which would take a lot of time and communication could not be done fast enough and constantly, however, now communication is easily done through social interaction networks on a daily basis using the Internet. Head of marketing at FreshNetworks, Jo Stratmann, states that indeed social media has completely transformed the way that people communicate with each other, and in a positive way, and is improving internal communication between people and even companies and workplaces (Using social media to improve internal communications, n.d.).
Facebook is beneficial to one's social life because they can continuously stay in contact with their friends and relatives, while others say that it can cause increased antisocial tendencies because people are not directly communicating with each other. But some argue that Facebook has affected the social life and activity of people in various ways. With its availability on many mobile devices, Facebook allows users to continuously stay in touch with friends, relatives and other acquaintances wherever they are in the world, as long as there is access to the Internet. Users can upload pictures, update statuses, play games, get news, add people, like and share photos, videos, memes
