Inequality in American schools
The issue of inequality has been known in many of life. The education sector is not an exception. When addressing equality of education many differences exist, ranging from wealth, and race, gender, and class. Education is very important and highly influential in children future in the United States. Government and children’s parents encourage young people to obtain higher education.
According to American press and news on TV, low income schools do not receive a fair share from the state government and local funding that affects our children’s educational quality and effectiveness. It also causes their schools to receive less supplies
However, in some countries children cannot obtain education especially girls. It is very important to get an education and can be very beneficial in children’s quality life. It gives not only an opportunity to learn to read and write, but also develop mental growth and learn about health, and well-being. There is a big academic pressure on students. Many of them work hard to be successful and trying to get the best education; but not all children have the same an opportunity because they live in the unsafe environment. Based on the Frontline documentary movie about Omarina, she was not doing well and failing classes and her grades was very bad. She seeks for the help and her school district did investigation on failing students and teacher’s comity decided to help her with her studies and living. One of the teachers volunteered her time to helped her with her living and academic progress. Her hard work and encouragement shows that everything is possible. Little help from educators and special programs can make deference in students’ lives. On other hand not all students are that brave and encouraging to seek for the help. Some of the children prefer to fail down and being dropped from the school it pushes them to the criminal activities. There are a many good teachers and willing to help to students who’s struggling with studies, but the students still have to do their part by trying their hardest to do well in school. In the article titled “Pashtana’s Lesson” by Beth Murphy, she records the story of a 15 year-old Afghani girl who has a fiery passion for acquiring knowledge and pursuing education, but old traditions oppress her devotion to study. After watching the Teach Us All documentary on Netflix, it opened my eyes to many of the issues regarding educational inequality. The study looked at schools in Little Rock, New York City, and Los Angeles to show us the current state of U.S. education and how far we have come since the school desegregation crisis. The thesis of this documentary is that since the efforts of the Little Rock Nine, our belief is that educational inequality has improved when in reality, it hasn’t improved and the actions of our country have had negative effects. McKinney Secondary School of Arts is Dasani’s outlet. It is here that she is able to express herself and forget about everything for a while. The school has the basic necessities, most of which is donated. The teachers are very aware of the home life that many of these kids have and do their best to make educating them fun and that they feel supported. Instead of calling home as a disciplinary action, Principal Paula Holmes makes deals with the kids. If they start behaving better, she does not call home and this method usually works. Calling home could result in a physical punishment for the kids. The faculty do their best to provide the children with a safe learning environment. The faculty is some of the only guidance these children have.
Inequalities in Education Funding inequalities have been an issue from past to present, especially in the low-income communities. In fact, students in urban areas with less funding have low attendance, score lower on standardized testing, and a low graduation rate. Also subjected to outdated textbooks, old dilapidated buildings, students in the inner cities need to compete with their suburban and wealthy counterparts for this reason funding inequalities must end and more money should be directed to these communities from federal, state, and local governments. In America, the idea of equality between people is important, it is in fact, written into the Constitution. However, for years the American educational system has operated in a completely inequitable manner due, in part, to the way that schools are funded, mostly through local or property taxes. The differences between schools in wealthy neighborhoods and those in poor neighborhoods are, many times, reminiscent of the differences between white schools and black schools before the end of segregation. While there is a desperate need to fix this broken system, there has been little progress. The issue is so divisive and the problem so big and entrenched in American laws, many politicians refuse to even attempt to come up with a solution. The answer lies with the federal government. To make American public schools equitable the federal government needs to step up its role in funding and administering the schools.
Proper school funding is one of the keys to having a successful school. Americans believe that funding is the biggest problem in public schools. School improvements revolve around funding. There needs to be funding not only in the successful schools but also the schools that aren’t doing as well. In documentary, Waiting for Superman, it talks about how smaller class sizes will help students. Funding is what will help the smaller class sizes. State funding mechanisms are subject to intense political and economic scrutiny (Leonard). Studies have shown that funding is inversely related to accreditation levels (Leonard). School funding needs to be increased, but there must be accountability as well.

The currently dissipated Occupy Movement did draw the general public’s attention to the ridiculous strides made by the rich, whose incomes have skyrocketed within the past four decades. Those pertaining to the middle-income and poor have sadly had their incomes stagnate.
Inequality is increasing in the Unites States and it affects you as students in your everyday life, as a member of your family, a member of society and many other societal aspects. Inequality in wealthy and inequality in income are two complete separate areas. Inequality in income is the amount or lack of money you earn from work or investments. Inequality in wealth is the amount or lack of items that you own, house, car, savings, or retirement accounts. Name some ways that inequality can affect you? Inequality can be differentiated in all roles of society and socialization including education, occupation, race, gender, rurality, and mobility.
All people deserve the right of education equality no matter gender, race or financial income. According to the daily star, by 2015 only seventy percent of countries will have achieved equality between the sexes in primary education and fifty six percent will have achieved equality in lower secondary education. Education equality is one of the main problems in school systems.
