While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because there was economic growth and the standard of living did improve, it was actually a negative thing as society. Industrialization’s negative effects were long work hour with little, low pay and separated family life unfair labor, working rights. Industrialization in the negative led to long work hour with little and low pay to employers. “Before down my labor drivers me forth”(Document 2) they didn’t get to see his boy that much. She worked “from 5 in the morning till 9 nights, when they were thronged”(Document 7). They usual hours they did not have to thronged it was “from 6 in the morning till 7 at night”(Document 7) that was still a lot.
Bentley said “there were so many fames and they run so quick. . .”(Document 7)so they had her on her feet all the time. The child had to support the family with the money they made. They “must be working in order to supporting the family”(Document 8). They family wasn’t getting a lot of money from the other jobs. Industrialization in the negative lead to an separated family life. A mom said “a stranger am I to my child”( Document 2) she really didn’t see him all the time because she was always working. The “industrial growth brought with it a host of environmental pollution problems” (Document 3). They had pollution problems like the water was dirty and the clothes got dirty. Bentley is being to working at the factory at the age of 6 years old. At a young age, she was being to work a lot of earlier the morning to late at night. “The child getting work experience”(Document 8). The Industrialization in the negative led to a unfair labor/working right for the child. She only had “forty minutes at noon”(Documents 7) for meals. She “was as straight as a little girl as ever” (Document 7). Have a lot pain on the weariness because she lost a lot strength well working really hard and all the time. Really badly In health when she worked in the factory. She lives in “poorhouse”(Document 7)and still doesn’t have a lot of money, but at least she have a roof over her shoulders. The child ‘”doesn’t have any shoes on or isn’t wearing any protective gear”(Document 8) him/her can’t get really hurt because of this they need safely first. The “machines looks too large for the kids and it doesn’t has no safety features” (Document 8) the machines can tip over the child and crush them. There a lot for lack of child labor laws.
Factory workers worked twelve to fifteen hours a day in hazardous condition. There were no protective rules for women and children and no insurances for job-related accidents or industrial illness. The workers were obliged to trade at company store
The Industrial Revolution began in England during the late 1700s, and by the end of its era, had created an enormous amount of both positive and negative effects on the world in social, economic, and even political ways. The revolution began to spread across the world, raising the standard of life for the populations in both Europe and North America throughout the 1800s. However, even with all of its obvious benefits, its downsides are nonnegotiable, forcing workers into horrendous living and working conditions, all inside of unkempt cities. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of the railroad system, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s
These paragraph state the negatives of this revolution. One of the most important con of this time period is the effect of child labor. As Document 7 states: Large machines and rising demand for products quickly led to the growth of the factory system. The building of these factories led to hire massive numbers of child workers, the youngest at 11 to 12 years old. The owners of these factories had no incentive to look out for the child’s safety or health. The workers also followed a very strict schedule. All workers had to be at the same place in the same time allotted for them. If a worker was injured, he was easily replaced. Another negative was the working conditions. Working conditions were described as dangerous, dirty, unhealthy, polluted, dark, dim and drafty. These workers who worked very hard with their strong muscles in these horrible conditions were not valued. If they were hurt and could not work, they were simply replaced. This was also stated in Document 4, with the same thing happening to children. In conclusion, both adult and child workers were not valued equally and got treated like
The impact of the Industrial Revolution was a positive experience for some, but it was a great difficulty for others. Because of the demands for reform and protection for workers arose, government and unions began to take place. That was how the evils of the Industrial Revolution addressed in England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
This confusion can be seen in two reports from separate journals that differ greatly—so much so that the ability to attribute them to the same issue seems unlikely and unrealistic. William Alexander Abram, a journalist and historian in the 1860’s, wrote an article about the vast improvements made during the industrialization process (Doc 6). Abram specifically mentions the Hours of Labor in Factories Act of 1844 that prohibited excessively long work days. Additionally, Abram mentioned the increased wages and the subsequent increase in quality of life.
The industrial revolution had mainly negative effects. The industrial revolution was a time in world history that has technically never ended. It is the time when society started to mass produce goods in order to provide enough goods for the booming population. People started to move from villages to cities where factories were looking for workers. New medical advances were made and people began to live longer. While some might argue that industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of the increased amount of new and cheaper products, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s negative effects were the dangerous and sometimes lethal work areas, poor living conditions and cramped housing,
Industrialization is the process in which an economy is changed from an agricultural economy to a manufacturing approach and manual labor is replaced by machines in factories. Industrialization brought a more diverse amount of goods and more total goods and improved living for many but, for others it resulted in harsh working and living conditions for the poor and working class. Many positives and negative were present during the industrialization of the U.S. Positives such as more goods being distributed, easier way of doing things, and being able to mass produce. Negatives like children working long and difficult jobs and many workers having poor working conditions.
The working conditions at the time for the majority of laborers was deplorable. Businessmen would take advantage of the laborers and force them to work long hours with severely little
Industrialization provided many benefits for the nation but however, it also created serious problems that required action by the government. Most of the factories owners treated their employees unfairly and unequal. They made them work large amount of hours for underpaid wages. Most of the people even children, worked 16 hours for 25 cents a day. Their employees had to deal with unsafe machines that sometimes were extremely dangerous. If they got injured they didn’t have any financial aid or any kind of compensation that helps them to get better. Instead they were kicked out from their job. If a machine caught fire, they didn’t have safety measures such as fire drills or emergency exits that make the exit of the building such an easy task. Most of food factories, didn’t force their employees to wear gloves, masks and hair nets while they were working and manipulating the products. This lack of hygiene measures brought a large amount of diseases that easily spread out around the country through the food these factories sold. Sometimes costumers could find hair or even eat meat where someone had sneezed on it. Because of the excess of power that monopolies had believed they could treat their employees however they wanted. To achieve better hours, better wages, and better working conditions the government passed several laws th...
Factory workers of this time had very little freedom. Aside from having to work outrageous hours for 6 days of the week, there was no job security, no solid way to survive day-to-day, and if a family member were to suffer an accident, families had no financial means to carry on. In the early 1900s, there were no labor laws, including the right to organize, an eight-hour day, safety standards, or unemployment/disability pensions. M...
In the 19th century, prior to the civil war, the United States underwent a transition from an agricultural based economy to an industrial based economy, in what is more commonly known as the American Industrial Revolution. This revolution had many contributing factors. Technology improvements allowed for greater production volume and speed. Transportation and Communications (internal improvements) advancements allowed for greater reach of markets and spurred domestic migration. Population increases, because of foreign migration and natural causes, resulted in more labor and more consumers. The government contributed financially to transportation and enacted protection laws. Capital given by the government and private sector to projects helped to fund corporations and internal improvements. The pre-Civil-War industrial revolution was a time of many
The Industrial Revolution was a time of great change and increased efficiency. No more would be goods be produced by sole means of farming and agriculture, but now by the use of machinery and factories. Technology was beginning to increase along with the food supply as well as the population. However, this increase in population would greatly impact the social aspect of that time. Urbanization was becoming much more widespread. Cities were becoming overwhelmingly crowded and there was an increase in disease as well as harsh child labor. Although child labor would be reduced somewhat due to unions, the Industrial Revolution still contained both it’s positive and negative results.
While some might argue that industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because of separated family life, it was actually a positive thing for society. Industrialization’s positive effects were more jobs, child labor laws and faster production. “Separated family life is when parents are gone the whole time at work and leaves their own child alone in the house” (Document 2). The overall question is asking us if the industrialization has a greater positive or negative effect on society. I think that the documents has greater positive because every page on these document were a lot of positives and the negatives were less.
One of the major problems that were occurring, were the harsh conditions of Industrialization in the work industry. Workers fought for higher wages and decent working conditions. However, this reform was mainly focused on women and children. The restriction ...
Industrialization was a period of rapid expansion in the 19th and 20th century for the United States and had a profound effect on the country. Although there was much success across the country, such as massive population growth and manual labor becoming easier, the negative effects of industrialization outweigh the positives.
