While Indonesian business culture exists from different ethnics, there are multiple things that need to be encountered before doing business in Indonesia. When interacting with Indonesians you need to remain conscious of the differences. Doing business in Indonesia will mean you have to know especially the dominant Islamic culture and Chinese culture, since Chinese conduct much business in Indonesia and also be aware of the Javanese collectivist worldview.

As mentioned, relationships are vital for success in Indonesia. The most important attributes to get vital relationships are patience and politeness. Meeting someone means you have to give them a hand for up to 10 to 12 seconds, instead of the slightly shorter handshakes in The Netherlands which would harm the meetings in Indonesia. For women facing Indonesian businessmen, a small bow would be more appropriate for the very reason that the dominant Islamic belief is to have no contact with the other
