We are promised what we are not being given, like our rights which are being taken and will continue to be taken away from us by the government. The government persuades us in different ways that our rights are being taken away from us to keep us safe. We should be given the right to sovereignty over our own bodies and as well the freedom of speech without having the government intrude. With rights come boundaries which are understanding if these boundaries are reasonable. Thus, as a nation was founded on the importance of individual freedom, we must err on the side of the individual when determining rights and freedoms.

being who makes part of a group. Others would say an individual is a person who has rights and can vote. An individual for myself is a single human being that makes part of a society, no matter what age group, race, or religion. A society as well has a significant amount of definitions. The majority of human beings would say that a society is a group of individuals with equal rights. Others would say a society is a group of citizens being run by the government. The definition of a society to myself is a nation or group of human being run and ruled by the government with higher power and say to our everyday life. Freedom and individual rights don’t fall in the same category. Individual rights are diminishing as time goes on; they are being diminished by our government. Most human beings from other countries would say the United States is a place to go if you want freedom, in reality, it is truly not a place with freedom. Our individual rights are being diminished over time and our freedom is being taken away slowly. Individual rights in our nation cancel out freedom in many ways, like for example, freedom of speech. Social rules vary in our country. It seems there is a new law or rule or some type of customs in our nation as time goes on. The majority of the citizens would agree with some of the rules being placed and others would not. The majority of the new rules being put down is diminishing our rights as human beings; it is understandable most of the rules are for our safety but there are others that are not and are taking our freedom. Morality is a behavior stander hailed by people, whether it is good or bad. Our government makes a law so that our morality of behavior is shown as well. It is to believe that without laws, universally as a nation, we don’t need a law to obey and do good. Generally speaking, there are good human beings in our nation are capable of doing right without laws. It is truly believed that if we are capable of keeping our nation intact, we do not need a law to do right; no nation is perfect, but, we as human beings should have the common sense to do good and show positive behaviors. What is guaranteed constitutional is not what is being given by our government nowadays. We are being told that the United States is all about having our freedom, in reality, we are not being guaranteed factors of freedom and rights. They are being taken from us and not respected by our own government. Why should we be promised constitutional rights when they are being taken from us slowly, Just because of safety issues. As a leader tries to codify important ideas about freedom they shall be clear as they put the foundation down. First, they must make sure that it is safe to put down rules and laws that will accommodate with our nation. Sovereignty shall be given to not only our government, but to us, the citizens of our nation. We should come together as a nation and vote on what laws are right or wrong, and not let our government decide the majority of laws for us. It seems to be that our bodies are owned by the government; they tell us what we can or cannot put into them, or what we can or cannot do with their bodies. Individuals should have sovereignty over their own body’s issues as drug use and prostitution. If a person is willing to harm themselves without harming others because they feel mentally capable of doing so, just let them. Why should we stop a person from doing drugs, if that is how they want their life to be and decide to go down that path they are only harming themselves. Prostitution is also a choice that should be left in the hands of the person doing it. The government should not tell a person what they can do to earn their money. If a person wants to sell their bodies for money, let them, it isn’t harming others if they protect themselves. Supporters note, “Working outside the law raises the likelihood that prostitutes will contract and spread dangerous STDs, including AIDS” (“Legalizing” par. 26). It is better to legalize prostitution and respect the decisions of individuals wanting to do what they want with their bodies; therefore, it is safe. What we eat should not concern the government. If we decide to be over weight and eat foods that are not healthy for us it should not be the governments call to tell us we may not do so. Opponents argue, “Diet and nutrition are individual, not government, responsibilities. Scapegoating the food industry and restricting consumer choice are ineffective and intrusive methods of dealing with obesity in the United States. Childhood obesity, furthermore, is a problem that should be dealt with by parents, not government bureaucrats” (“Diet” par.2). We should decide on what foods we can put in our bodies as well as what we can or cannot feed our children; feather more it should not be the decision of the government on what we can eat or feed our children. There are always boundaries, even when it comes to individual sovereignty. Human beings shall decide what they can do with their bodies only if they are not physically harming others. If prostitutes want to sell their bodies for money they should only do so if they are being cautious and protecting themselves. If human beings want to put any harming substances in their bodies they may do so, but only if they aren’t physically harming others. It is all deciding on the person whether or not they are willing to only harm themselves. Freedom of speech is a huge issue in our society nowadays, in schools, workplaces, even outside of the places we feel we should have freedom of speech the most.
We must realize that the government is “weakening free-speech protections because of concerns about security or offending religious believers” (Greenblatt par.1) Freedom of speech should be an equal right of every individual, no matter what age, culture, gender, or religion. Individuals should be able to express their ideas and speech, no matter where they are or who they are.
There is always an extend to freedom of speech. All individuals shall express themselves and their ideas in any way, but only if they are not physically harming others. Words cannot physically stab or shoot or murder someone. It may hurt a person’s feelings, but as humans, we should learn to ignore negative comments even if it is meant for us, by ignoring negativity it would not harm us

mentally. Properties are worked hard for, if an individual works hard to own then that is their property. It is hard to believe that the government can tell an individual what they can or cannot do with their property they worked hard to obtain. Therefore, an individual should be able to do what they want on their property. For example, homeowners should not be worried about the law enforcement barging in their homes just because they are making decisions they cannot do inside of a place owned by the government. Cars are also properties which individuals work hard to obtain; the government has no right to tell them that they cannot smoke inside their cars or do what they are not able to do if they step in an area that it is illegal to do so. Unless the property is not owned by an individual any rules can be implied by the person who owns the property. The authorities should only have the right to barge in an individual’s home if it is not their property and they are physically harming another human being inside of the home. The government should only tell an individual what they may do if the government owns the property. Let’s say an individual want to smoke inside of a property that it is not owned by him or her they should respect the rule because the property is not theirs. The government plays a major role in our nation.
The government is supposed to keep our nation safe and running smoothly. It is a hard job to keep our nation running smoothly and safely with intruders and other obstacles. The majority of the citizens of our nation believes that the job is not being met. The government is too focused on little flaws in our nation, that do not matter and do not see the big picture of what really is to be focused on.
Equality over sovereignty should be given to the citizens who live in the United States as well as to the government. We should have the right to control our own lives and live as we want to a certain extent. We should be able to put and do what we please with our bodies and not be told by the government what we can or cannot do. Citizens of our nation do not tell the government what they can do with our country, therefore, why should they tell us what to do with our bodies.
Boundaries are always put down in any situation, to draw a line between what is right and what is wrong. To an extend most of the boundaries are fair, but most are not. Most individuals would strongly believe the boundaries being put down by our government are not fair and silly. Human beings would agree that we are capable of knowing right from wrong and we do not need boundaries put down. One important boundary is that we shall not physically harm
others. A social safety net is a help given to individuals who are struggling with everyday expenses. Most individuals are against welfare and unemployment. Americans are taking advantage of the help benefits. The majority of citizens receiving these help benefits has taken advantage because they are capable of working and should not receive the help benefits provided. According to Ramesh Ponnuru, a columnist for Bloomberg News, "The program ought to be focused on people in real need—not people who are taking no steps to find work” (Qtd. in “Government” par. 32). Most individuals are collecting these benefits without needing them and human beings who are really struggling and cannot work are not capable of receiving these help benefits.
Through government censorship, many religious, and nonreligious, activities have been stopped, disrupted, and insulted throughout the years. In fact, it is not just government that do this. Many people tend to be bothered by such activities and also work towards stopping and/or disrupting them. "'We stand against the small tide of those who want to make everyone unhappy with conflicting theory and thought'” (Bradbury 59) This quote from the text is when Beatty explains to Montag the importance of firemen. This quote helps to show how in a dystopian government, there are people who interrupt others activities to maintain “order”. In 2016, a youtuber by the name of Adam Saleh was kicked off a plane for speaking in a different language. “I am upset that that’s happening, really upset,” the passenger said. “‘Is there freedom of speech? They can speak in whatever language they want to on the plane.’” “‘In the video, as Saleh panned the camera around the plane cabin, a few passengers waved. Several could be heard shouting: ‘Bye!’” (Wang, Amy “YouTube star known for pranks claims he was kicked off Delta flight for speaking Arabic”) These quotes from an article describe how while some believe that people deserve freedoms, others may disagree. Because of this, those with more power (in this case a greater majority) get the unfair
Freedom of speech has been a controversial issue throughout the world. Our ability to say whatever we want is very important to us as individuals and communities. Although freedom of speech and expression may sometimes be offensive to other people, it is still everyone’s right to express his/her opinion under the American constitution which states that “congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press”. Although this amendment gave people the right express thier opinions, it still rests in one’s own hands as how far they will go to exercise that right of freedom of speech.
The United States of America is often known for having more freedom than anywhere else. As Gandhi said, “A ‘no’ uttered from the deepest conviction is better and greater than a ‘yes’ uttered to please, or what is worse, to avoid trouble.” Freedom of speech is a big part of the American culture and citizens are encouraged to speak their minds and opinions openly. It is such an important aspect of each American individual that it is
The Amendment I of the Bill of Rights is often called “the freedom of speech.” It provides a multitude of freedoms: of religion, of speech, of the press, to peacefully assemble, to petition the government. Religious freedom is vitally important to this day because it eliminates the problem of religious conflicts. Historically, many people died for their beliefs because their government only allowed and permitted one religion. T...
Everyday we have the chance to make her own opinions and give reason to our own voice. We have the chance to live in a country that encourages freedom in society, which separate ourselves from any restrictions imposed upon by authority, actions or any political views. liberty is the power we possess to act as we please through freedom and independence. But what happens when we choose to give away our basic liberties for temporary safety? Benjamin Franklin once stated, “They who give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Those who decide to give away their personal freedoms for something that is temporary do not see the value in the long-lasting gift called freedom. In
Since this country was founded, we have had a set of unalienable rights that our constitution guarantees us to as Americans. One of the most important rights that is mentioned in our constitution is the right to free speech. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
According to “Freedom of Speech” by Gerald Leinwand, Abraham Lincoln once asked, “Must a government, of necessity, be too strong for the liberties of its people, or too weak to maintain its own existence (7)?” This question is particularly appropriate when considering what is perhaps the most sacred of all our Constitutionally guaranteed rights, freedom of expression. Lincoln knew well the potential dangers of expression, having steered the Union through the bitterly divisive Civil War, but he held the Constitution dear enough to protect its promises whenever possible (8).
In the United States, free speech is protected by the First Amendment in which it states, “Congress shall make no laws respecting an establishment of religion … or abridging the freedom of speech.” Now, nearly 250 years into the future, the exact thing that the Founding Fathers were afraid of is starting to happen. Today, our freedom of speech is being threatened through different forces, such as the tyranny of the majority, the protection of the minority, and the stability of the society. Now, colleges and universities in the United States today are also trying to institute a code upon its students that would bar them from exercising their right to speak freely in the name of protecting minorities from getting bullied. This brings us into
+ Sure, the government has kept everyone in the United States safe from terrorist attacks and mass shootings recently, but that comes with a cost of surrendering our freedoms as well. With the power of the government, they do not give as much freedom that the “Land of the free” is supposed to have and deserve. Laws today provide certain restrictions on American citizens on having the authority to own a gun. The Second Amendment states that in the United States Constitution the people have the right to keep and bear arms, but this may not completely be the case. It almost seems that people want to trust the government, but have no choice but to do that.
The government then expects us to possess certain responsibilities in our freedom of speech. For example, one may not discuss anything that is violent or threatening. This is considered a crime and is taken seriously by authorities. Not long ago, two gentlemen in Florida were overheard discussing plans to "bring it down." The assumption, of course, was that they were going to bomb a building. The woman who heard their conversation called the police and the men were arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy.
As part of the constitution that states the rights of individuals in United States, in the “Bill of Rights”, or the first ten amendments, the first amendment claims and prohibits the Congress from hindering individuals to exercise their freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and the right to petition. In the article The Hell You Say by Kelefa Sanneh, there was a debate about what is free speech and who has the power to control free speech. The article asked the question “who is censoring whom?” to the readers to engage them and actively think about the topic. Although, the article claimed that “Free speech can be harmful, and its defenders should be willing to say so”, it did not clearly indicate any pros or cons of any side the reader
I believe that the government should not be able to control what a woman does with her body. By granting women the right to choose, this does not permit her to kill, but to decide what is best for all persons involved. There are many situations that show that abortion may be the best for the parents and the unborn child. Situations such as rape or incest prove that it is not the woman’s fault and not fair to the mother or the unborn child to pay for it. There are other situations such as if the mother carries a disease the can be passed on, or if the parents are unfit to raise a family at the time. Any case however, should be between the people involved and not the government.
The entire American Government is based in the belief that all human beings are born with certain rights. People do not receive their rights from the Government; its function is actually to guard the rights we already have. Citizens are protected by the first amendment, which prohibits government from acting against anyone's rights.
We cannot prevent or stop others who obtain there right of free speech. However we can make the choice on how we handle and approach these certain circumstances. Words that cause immediate danger are different than forming and speaking on an opinion. An opinion that is negative or positive is protected under the First Amendment and should stay this way when it comes to Freedom of Speech. This comes with the help of keeping the government accountable. Being open and mindful of other's spoken opinions can help create a greater foundation for Freedom of Speech, instead of striiping people of their rights as
The right to Life, Liberty, and Security, is one of the most important citizen rights that you can have. With the right to life, it means that any individual has the right to live, and shouldn’t be killed by anyone. With the right to Liberty, it means that we have the right to be free, and do almost anything we want. Lastly, the right to security means that you are guaranteed to be protected the best way possible, while you are in that country. Even though it is just one of many rights, they all fall under the right to freedom. Which everyone just wants the right to do what they want, and to stand up for what they believe in. Everyone should have the right to freedom, as well as the right to life, liberty, and security. We felt that this right was the most important because it summed up the rights that we need as citizens. Like the right to not be enslaved, can count as the right to Life and Liberty. So in our opinion, the right to Life, Liberty, and Security, is the one that should be one of the first applied rights to our lives. The next few paragraphs will describe how we feel on these particular rights, as well as examples of how these rights are being violated all over the world.
