The Indiana State Fair was in full swing on August 13, 2011. The big event for the night was a Sugarland concert. The concert was scheduled to start at 8:45 P.M. At approximately 8:15 P.M. a severe storm was approaching the concert area with an approximate arrival time of 9:15 P.M. State Fair authorities were told about the approaching storm at that time. When the authorities were told about the storm, they went and spoke to the band’s manager at 8:20 P.M. and asked them to delay the start of the concert. The manager told the authorities Sugarland was not able to delay the start of the concert. By 8:30 P.M. over 12,000 fans had already entered the concert area. With the storm still approaching, CPT Weaver of the Indiana State Police told the executive director of the fair they need to either delay the show or cancel …show more content…
The warning told the storm was capable of producing winds up to 60 MPH. Even though the warning was issued the information about it was never given to the concert officials or state fair authorities. At 8:40 P.M. the executive director of the state fair gave the go ahead for the concert to begin as scheduled. At 8:45 CPT Weaver tells the executive director the concert area needs to be evacuated due to the approaching storm. At 8:46 the stage collapses due to the winds that were excess of 60-70 MPH from the storm. The incident caused 58 people to get hurt and 7 to be killed. Mid America Sound was the company that erected the stage for the concert. They told fair officials, the stage could withstand winds of 40 MPH. The company spokesperson said they had erected stages for the fair over several years and told the State Fair Commision not to use the stages if the winds were over 25 MPH. The stage at the fair was not even inspected prior to the concert. The State of Indiana does not require an inspection of temporary structures such as scaffolding or entertainment
Most were killed either in the crash to exit the building or overcome by fumes while trying to find an exit. The immediate cause was well documented due to witness reports and a videotape that was taken during the concert. In the period that followed the tragedy, there were many attempts to fix blame. Following a Grand Jury investigation, several of the parties involved pleaded guilty to violations of the law and served or are currently sentenced in prison. The Station
On Friday November 15, 2013, I attended a concert that I found very interesting. It took place at 7:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. The group performing was the Erie Chamber Orchestra but as a special the Slippery Rock University Concert Choir was also there.
The largest structure at the fair was the Manufactures and Liberal Arts Building. It housed many...
Although Greensburg was almost entirely destroyed, the storm helped to reinforce the important role that storm chasers play in the tracking and warning process of severe weather. By having well-trained, experienced people in the field, meteorologists and weather services are better able to track the exact location and characteristics of tornadic events, relaying that information to the public faster and more accurately than ever before.
The pyramid is a nice sized arena and is a good housing for concerts. About half of the audience was your average 30-40 year old, and the other half were the redneck, leather wearing, dope smoking type. Nothing spectacular happened until AC/DC came to the stage. At this point fireworks went off and a big brass color blow up of the lead singer appeared on stage. Two of the b...
...re problems with the buildings such as fire, and more storms. However, those events didn’t stop the people from coming and seeing what the fair had to offer. It took several big events to get mass crowds of people, such as a ball at the midway and fireworks on the Fourth of July. In one day the fair had 751,026 people in attendance, from people who paid at the gate and others who had passes . The problems that occurred during the building of the fair did not hurt attendance, and the fair was a success, changing America along the way.
We play music loudly with our friends and families at social gatherings and ultimately it creates a friendly and open atmosphere. Now the last thing we would think about would be that at one of these social events one of us may die. In recent years there have been more and more deaths and injuries at musical festivals all throughout the United States. Although the number is much lower than deaths and injuries from automotive accidents they should not be over looked. Music festivals are becoming more and more popular and people are flocking to festivals all around the United States. These music festivals in today’s society have turned into drug infested parties in which people’s live are endangered and people themselves are exposed to drugs and unsafe festival conditions.
What happened you ask… Well everyone knows a huge storm is a scary thing, well it was very scary for many people who lived in Texas. Have you heard of the Great Galveston Storm? Well in Texas The Great Galveston came to hover over Texas. About 6,000-8,000 have had their funeral held at their broken down homes, where tears dropped to the ground feeding the dry, cracked road. Government knew that that storm was the biggest in history. It is now known as the biggest storm in history. It may not be the biggest in the world, but it sure is the biggest in Texas and California. After this big tragic event, weird laws and fun facts have popped up everywhere to cheer up depressed

...ve damage occurred in New England where federal disaster areas were declared for seven counties in Massachusetts, five in Maine, and one in New Hampshire. Off Staten Island, two men were drowned when their boat capsized. Other fatalities occurred when a man fishing from a bridge was either blown or swept off in New York and a fisherman was swept off the rocks at Narrangansett, RI by heavy surf. Offshore, six lives were lost when the Andrea Gail, a swordfishing boat, sank. Total damage in the Halloween Storm, as it came to be known because of its date, was in the hundreds of millions of dollars.”
...ntioned as well as numerous other crowding tragedies and found ways to make their venues safer. Many venues no longer allow for festival seating, or have designed queuing systems that have ways to disperse crowds. Like everything else in nature, we are not 100% safe from crowding incidents even with all the precautions the venues take. Thankfully, we have been given some warning signs to look for ourselves so that we may be our own last line of defense.
After 15 minutes people were starting to get frustrated because nothing was happening. It is a good thing. Suddenly there was activity onstage and the lights dimmed. the first support band, Slam Cartel, came on. The mosh pit went wild.
chill to it. It was a typical Colorado fall day. My friends and I stood in a circle lightly bouncing trying to keep ourselves warm. It has always been our tradition to get to an arena at least an hour before a concert starts and wait for the doors to open. This day was no different we refused to let the weather break our tradition. We ended up paying for it because our nose and cheeks began to turn rosy red and our fingers and toes were going numb. When the doors to the arena finally opened we all breathed a sigh of relief and rushed inside to warm up.
Without warning, the lights went dark. This was the moment I had been waiting for. My adrenaline went through the roof. The time had finally come that I would get to see and hear my first live concert.
