6. Opportunities, Challenges and Constraints India’s rapidly growing economy will offer promising possibilities for growth in fu-ture. However, such growth will not be automatic and will be attained only if Rail-ways approach the task with a carefully crafted and meticulously executed plan. Railways can outperform other competing modes by offering mass-scale services very reliably and efficiently and providing differentiated services at value-based rates. Efficiency of railway operations is predicated upon capacity, more tonnage/passengers per train and speed. Identification and satisfaction of customers' specific needs would be necessary for premium services. To achieve the Vision for ambitious growth, Indian Railways has to offer a range of cost-competitive and differentiated services. The first and foremost prerequisite for this is adequate capacity. Other challenges that IR must embrace and overcome would pertain to alignment of material and organizational resources towards design and delivery of …show more content…
Freight services, in particular, suffer the most. Investment in technological tools and managerial systems that ensure reliability of assets is, therefore, a major challenge, if Indian Railways is to achieve high growth by offering superior services. (C) Safety in Railway Safety performance of Indian Railways measured in terms of number of consequential train accidents (accidents with serious repercussions in terms of loss of human life or injury or damage to railway property or interruption to railway traffic beyond the defined threshold level). These include collision, derailment, and fire in trains, accident of road vehicles with trains at level crossings and other specified types of miscellaneous train mishaps or accidents. Accidents per million train-kilometers have been steadily improving as illustrated by the following table: Note: The total also includes accidents under the miscellaneous category apart from the four categories shown in the
In a car crash, the more weight there is, the risk of injuries drops (Williams, May Twenty-second, 2015). In most semi truck accidents (about seventy percent of semi truck accidents), when only the semi truck and trailer alone are involved, there are no deaths. But when another vehicle (such as a car, van, or pickup truck ) is involved, about ninety-eight percent of the time there is at least one fatality, which is really low compared to some other means of transportation (such as a train or an airplane) (EJustice, 2012).
Because of the job opportunities in the West that were advertised throughout the World , many people who found themselves out of place after being freed, or having their livelihood freed, sought to take up shop and make their way to these new opportunities.
To answer the first question one must see where we were, where they were, and what projections did they set for a 6 year projection goal. Abbott case study updated version 2012, or even now 2013 percentage rates. In 2013, Abbott global vehicle accidental rate had improved by 6 percent from the 2012 rate, to 4.8 accidents per million miles driven (Abbott, 2013). The long t...

From organic to mechanical, the industrialization of time and of space, the history of transportation and the rise of railways during the Industrial Revolutions throughout Europe and America played an ever-important role in the way our perception of technology and our consciousness has changed and adapted to the learned behaviors of the mechanical and industrialized world. In Schivelbusch’s The Railway Journey: The Industrialization of Time and Space in the Nineteenth Century one will find many key concepts on how technology has impacted the basic ideas of time and space, mechanical versus natural, progress and uniformity just to name a few.
The rail systems put into place in Chicago have always been a major factor in freight transportation. The city provides a centralized hub for the railways throughout the country. After a long run the system is bound to find flaws as old technologies are passed by new ones. The existing railroad structures have in time taken a toll over the years of service. “The railroad system of Chicago has been around for a long time now. After many years it has gone past time time of despair. With the new project it is hoping to bring the popularity back to where it once was” (Chicago Transit Renovation to Improve Service). This update needed will guide Chicagos railroad system into the future. The city also has to take a look on how it is going to keep up with the constant increase of railcars on their tracks. With the new technologies of the future Chicago can only make their infrastructure better. The aim is to stay on time with the railcars to diminish the amount of overcrowding presented in the old rail systems in Chicago.
The completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) was a major event in Canadian History. Although it connected the east and west coast of early Canada, it was also a very dangerous and arduous project for its workers. Chinese immigrants were discriminated and were given the hardest jobs during the construction of the railway. The manner in which they were treated was unacceptable and inhumane. Therefore, comparing the regulations used during the creation of the CPR to Canada’s present safety standards will conclude if Canada has substantially improved its work safety since the railway's completion.
as better train and bus stations, fast and direct transit service, access to every place in city via
In 1862, the Pacific Railroad Act chartered the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific Railroad Companies, and tasked them with building a transcontinental railroad that would link the United States from east to west. Over the next seven years, the two companies would race toward each other from Sacramento, California on the one side and Omaha, Nebraska on the other, struggling against great risks before they met at Promontory, Utah, on May 10,
-The National Transportation Safety Board's statistics show an accident rate of 5 fatal accidents for each 10 million flights on scheduled and nonscheduled service by U.S. airlines operating under part 121 of the Federal Aviation Regulations from 1982 through 1998.
Next, many people have either died or have been injured in motor vehicle accidents, each year there are about 5 million people injured in vehicle related accidents (The Environmental Impact of Automobiles). Although this all m...
In the past, the term "accident" was often used when referring to an unplanned, unwanted event. To many "accident" suggests an event that was random, and could not have been prevented. Since nearly all work site fatalities, injuries, and illnesses are preventable, OSHA suggests using the term "incident" investigation. An incident usually refers to an unexpected event that did not cause injury or damage this time but had the potential. "Near miss" or "dangerous occurrence" are also terms for an event that could have caused harm but did not.
India's strategy for development has had many critics. It was pointed out that the emphasis on heavy industry
The eight billion initial investments in the high-speed rail are expected to produce about 320,000 jobs and roughly thirteen billion dollars in economic benefit. These include construction and operation jobs, as well as manufacturing and supply chain options. By increasing mobility while decreasing crowding and spreading, high-speed rail makes our country more competitive while simultaneously creating economic development. The High Speed Rail could boost the economy and could provide alternate transportation, therefore it should be built.
In conclusion, we can see that rail transport in Malaysia is very need the improvement from the trip ratio for transportation on current scenario compared to the target scenario in Peninsular Malaysia based on Figure 1 results. For next chapter, we will have a discussion about the relationship between factor influence and social behavior towards the railway transportation. Moreover, we have to find out some more reasons why people do not chosen railway transport as their movement
