The country of Bolivia is composed of 10.6 million indigenous people, roughly ⅔ of their population. As a result, along with Spanish, Quechua and Aymara are also official languages of Bolivia. Recently in 2005, Evo Morales was elected the first indigenous president. Unfortunately on an opposing note, Bolivia’s income inequality is the highest in Latin America, and one of the highest in the world. This is likely correlated to Bolivia’s poor public education. Educational opportunities of not evenly distributed throughout Latin America, leading girls, indigenous, and rural children to be less likely to complete primary school, resulting in them having a lower chance at literacy. This poor education leaves many people unemployed thus lowering …show more content…
It also lacks clean water and basic sanitation especially in rural areas, thus increasing the pertinent health problems. These basic standard of living issues are affecting people around the country, also contributing to the low livability, for citizens are not provided a safe environment to live in. Without basic sanitation, illness spreads quickly raising the risk of a possible outbreak, endangering the country in the future. Additionally, the main people affected by an outbreak first, are going to be those in poverty who can’t afford to live as clean of a life as the higher class citizens. Luckily, since Evo Morales has been in office, the percentage of people living in poverty has decreased from 60% to 40% from 2006-2017, and the unemployment rate has now decreased to 4%. Unfortunately in recent years, there has been insufficient investment in the country’s mining and hydrocarbons raising obstacles for Bolivia’s economy, but a recent plan has been approved to maintain a growth of 5%, and to reduce poverty by 2020. Along with economic troubles, Bolivia has also been encountering some communication

Wealth inequality and income inequality are often mistaken as the same thing. Income inequality is the difference of yearly salary throughout the population.1 Wealth inequality is the difference of all assets within a population.2 The United States has a high degree of wealth distribution between rich and poor than any other majorly developed nation.3
The highest earning fifth of U.S. families earned 59.1% of all income, while the richest earned 88.9% of all wealth. A big gap between the rich and poor is often associated with low social mobility, which contradicts the American ideal of equal opportunity. Levels of income inequality are higher than they have been in almost a century, the top one percent has a share of the national income of over 20 percent (Wilhelm). There are a variety of factors that influence income inequality, a few of which will be discussed in this paper. Rising income inequality is caused by differences in life expectancy, rapidly increases in the incomes of the top 5 percent, social trends, and shifts in the global economy.
America in today's society is burdened with many economic and political problems that have begun to plague the nation. Controversial topics are constantly being debated from sunrise to sunset across the country with supporters and those who oppose each bearing various levels of financial and political misfortune. With the numerous economic and political problems that affect the nation, the argument over the issue of income inequality is one of the most notable. Creating a political civil war, proponents from both sides have brought the issue into national view and debate has grown substantially within recent years.
Income inequality not only harms us fiscally, but also affects our mental and physical wellbeing; therefore, it is important to identify the right ways to control wealth distribution among people.
Income inequality has affected American citizens ever since the American Dream came to existence. The American Dream is centered around the concept of working hard and earning enough money to support a family, own a home, send children to college, and invest for retirement. Economic gains in income are one of the only possible ways to achieve enough wealth to fulfill the dream. Unfortunately, many people cannot achieve this dream due to low income. Income inequality refers to the uneven distribution of income and wealth between the social classes of American citizens. The United States has often experienced a rise in inequality as the rich become richer and the poor become poorer, increasing the unstable gap between the two classes. The income gap in America has been increasing steadily since the late 1970’s, and has now reached historic highs not seen since the 1920’s (Desilver). UC Berkeley economics professor, Emmanuel Saez conducted extensive research on past and present income inequality statistics and published them in his report “Striking it Richer.” Saez claims that changes in technology, tax policies, labor unions, corporate benefits, and social norms have caused income inequality. He stands to advocate a change in American economic policies that will help close this inequality gap and considers institutional and tax reforms that should be developed to counter it. Although Saez’s provides legitimate causes of income inequality, I highly disagree with the thought of making changes to end income inequality. In any diverse economic environment, income inequality will exist due to the rise of some economically successful people and the further development of factors that push people into poverty. I believe income inequality e...
When looking at how well a country is doing economically two good places to start are the health and prosperity of its people. Uruguay’s population growth is slowing and instances of infant and childhood mortality
The population that is primarily effected by the poverty are mostly the underdevelopment nations. Huge population in the nation depends on the agriculture for wealth and even with the support of the developed country, a natural disaster still can cause the entire nation to have a tremendous hardship. Because the lack of the health care, most of the destitute family have a higher mortality rate and need more children to carry on the responsibility. The poverty will also cause the lack of education within the children, because they simply need to work for their family’s food. If we continue this bad loop, the situation will only become worse and effect not only the underdeveloped nations but also all around the

Finland values a high education and promotes equality among its people through its education. It has left behind farming to excel in technology such as electronics and telecommunications. At the other end of the list is Haiti, which invests heavily in agriculture and has a low level of education making it one of the highest in the Gini coefficient equation at (60.8). This makes it one of the top five in inequality of income in the world. While the country of Peru falls between both nations at (45.3). Its wealth comes from its vast resources of precious metals such as gold, silver, and copper. Not to mention its exotic woods from the Amazon. Yet, this is only part of its economic growth in the past decade. Free trade with 53 nations of the world has helped it in reducing the poverty level of the nation. It relies on the economy of others for the health of its own! With all of this said, only half of the nation enjoys its growing wealth, those who have higher education and live in the big cities. All others throughout the country remain at low-income level. The Peruvian government is currently working this.
Nearly 50,000 people, including 30,000 children, die each day due to poverty-related problems and preventable disease in underdeveloped Countries. That doesn’t include the other millions of people who are infected with AIDS and other incurable diseases. Especially those living in Sub-Saharan Africa (70%), or “the Third-World,” and while we fight to finish our homework, children in Africa fight to survive without food, or clean water. During the next few paragraphs I will give proof that poverty and disease are the two greatest challenges facing under developed countries.
Poverty won’t end in a flash; it will take time and patients. To end poverty it will take help from every ethnicity. Jeffery Sachs predicts that poverty could end as soon as 2025. Countries are already trying to get free healthcare for everyone, but they are having a hard time getting everyone to agree on the bill. Some say, “why change what’s not broken.” But the truth is that the system is broken, yes it helps the ones who can afford it but not the ones with limited resources. Emphasized earlier eliminating poverty will take time, but it can happen. As Nelson Mandela pointed out “like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.
There are 15,000 inhabitants of Sacaca who are among the most disadvantaged people in Bolivia. The main way of making a living is subsistence farming; they grow potatoes, cereal crops, beans and peas and lower down the mountains pear trees and prickly cacti. They also rear livestock including sheep, goats and llamas. The farms do not make enough and there is desperate need for clean water, sanitation, more awareness of hygiene and more local health care. This project began in October 2002 and is now helping to address the issues above over the next 13 years.
Poverty is the lack of the basic needs of life, including food, shelter, clothing and safe drinking water. For a person to live normally, it is important to meet a certain level of physical, social, and emotional needs. People who live in poverty have difficult time to achieve those as they are not welcomed in many places. Because of their low incomes, they have troubles in maintaining their health, hunger, education. Poverty has become a large issue around the world. It is something that many of us know about but we’re not realizing just how big of a problem it is. This paper will include basic information about poverty, its effects, facts and statistics which can make people aware and want to help reduce poverty.
I was a little skeptical on taking this class at first but not that the semester is coming to an end, this became my favorite class throughout this this semester. I learned a lot of how the depiction of Latin America women were portrayed in films, news articles, and discussions this semester. How the image of Latin American women and identity in the media has progressed throughout the years. Watching the films, “I, the Worst of All”, “Eva Peron”, “The Official Story”, “Real Women have Curves”, and “Selena” have all broke their Latina stereotypical roles for their own self worth and happiness. I was not aware how that women in Latin and America experience this different type of submissiveness in their families and communities. But, it also portrays
