World Vision's Role in the Development of the World
World Vision is one of the world’s leading aid and development
charities. It was founded in 1947 by the American missionary Bob
Pierce after he took a life changing trip to China and Korea in 1947.
In its core values it states that it is a Christian organization that
acknowledges one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The organization
maintains its Christian identity but is sensitive to the diverse
contexts in which it works. It is committed to the poor and to working
with the poor towards fullness of life. In 2003 its total income was
£42,223 of which £ 23,941 was from voluntary sources and £ 7,518 came
from government grants.
World Vision runs both long term programmes (area development
programmes) and emergency programmes. Area development programmes
(ADPs) cover large areas which involve several villages and
communities. These projects last up to 15 years. The funding for ADPs
mainly comes from child sponsorship which enables World Vision to help
the whole community. World Vision’s main aim is to help communities to
develop their skills and confidence so they are able to manage their
own development long after World Vision has finished it work in that
particular area.
An example of one of World Vision’s ADPs is World Vision’s new
sponsorship program in Sacaca in the county of Ibañez, in the province
of Potosi in Bolivia. Sacaca is a mountainous area with a cold
climate. There are 15,000 inhabitants of Sacaca who are among the most
disadvantaged people in Bolivia. The main way of making a living is
subsistence farming; they grow potatoes, cereal crops, beans and peas
and lower down the mountains pear trees and prickly cacti. They also
rear livestock including sheep, goats and llamas. The farms do not
make enough and there is desperate need for clean water, sanitation,
more awareness of hygiene and more local health care. This project
began in October 2002 and is now helping to address the issues above
over the next 13 years.

While practically every health indicator has improved in Peru in the past thirty years, these improvements have not been distrusted equally across the population. Most of the progress has occurred in urban areas, especially in the capital city of Lima, with the rural population lagging behind. It is easy to assume that all of the disparity results from the poverty that exists in the region According to the Population Reference Bureau (2015), the amount of people living below the poverty line is 36% higher in rural areas than in urban areas. While poverty is definitely a causative factor in the disparities that exist, in this paper I will examine some of these inequalities and show that the geographical isolation of many rural communities is
The broad range of topographical elevations has encouraged agricultural expansion whose diverse production of food constitutes an important part of the Colombian economy. The agricultural sector contributed 14% of GDP, excluding coffee, with a production worth almost 11 billion US. In the hot lowlands of the Caribbean heartland, the inter-montages valleys, and the savannas of Orinoquia, there are immense plantations of bananas, sugar cane, rice, cotton, soybeans and sorghum, and large cattle farms that produce meat and dairy products. The essay, “A Christian World View,” by Mickenzie Neely seeks to address some major themes that pertain to a Christian worldview. The essay, in summary, states that “serving others, accepting and giving grace, sacrifice, and justice are all essential to living for Christ.” This essay was presented in a way in which she used facts and scriptures from the Bible to support her point. This paper will analysis Neely’s main arguments and will evaluate my opinion of her writing. The main topics that apply to my Christian worldview are love, service, grace and forgiving.
My task in establishing a worldview seemed daunting until reviewing, “I believe God is the source of all truth”(Hindson and Towns). This inspired me to not worry and focus on God’s message to me. In studying and researching I discovered Romans is the New Testament’s most important book. The importance of Romans is summarized best by Martin Luther, “This Epistle is really the chief part of the New Testament and the very purest Gospel, and is worthy not only that every Christian should know it word for word, by heart, buy occupy himself with it every day, as the daily bread of the soul”(Luther).
Having an impact on an individual’s life is their worldview. A worldview influences your thoughts and . This is their point of view and how they interpret and relate to the world. It shapes their interactions and behaviors to those around them (Waddell, 2014). One key element to an individual’s worldview relates to ethics. These may be shaped by what someone believes and what they have experienced while growing up. Ethics is an individual’s morals, their sense of what is right and what is wrong (Hiles & Smith, 2014).
My own definition of worldview is set of beliefs about the most important issues in life and my reaction to it. While in agreement with Jeff Baldwin’s eyeglass concept, I choose to compare my Christian worldview to an internal navigational system. When I am lost and need to be found, Christ is omnipresent. He knows my location and guides me into another direction. “It’s a roadmap, a guide for getting around in life, for interpreting reality, and for making choices” (The Importance of Worldview, 2011, p.11). Hopefully my final destination will be in the “city of gold, as clear as glass” (NLT, Revelation, 21:18).

. World Vision was founded by Reverend Robert Pierce and is funded by grants and donations made by individuals and or families sponsoring a child who lives in high-poverty environments across the world. Because World Vision International is mainly based on child sponsorship, donations, and volunteers, the only important policy they focus on is the Privacy Policy. They are committed to keeping the privacy of their donors and sponsors but warns that they may share some information history to a third party in order to efficiently find other
