The world is full of inequalities such as gender, health, education, political, tax, innovation, and income inequality (some people are rich and some people are poor). It is important to understand what causes inequality. For instance, not having access to a higher education can cause inequality in a society. If someone works hard and finishes school, of course, he or she will have a higher wage, then this will not be a market failure. In other words, inequality means that there is a gap between people that earn more and people that earn less.

Finland values a high education and promotes equality among its people through its education. It has left behind farming to excel in technology such as electronics and telecommunications. At the other end of the list is Haiti, which invests heavily in agriculture and has a low level of education making it one of the highest in the Gini coefficient equation at (60.8). This makes it one of the top five in inequality of income in the world. While the country of Peru falls between both nations at (45.3). Its wealth comes from its vast resources of precious metals such as gold, silver, and copper. Not to mention its exotic woods from the Amazon. Yet, this is only part of its economic growth in the past decade. Free trade with 53 nations of the world has helped it in reducing the poverty level of the nation. It relies on the economy of others for the health of its own! With all of this said, only half of the nation enjoys its growing wealth, those who have higher education and live in the big cities. All others throughout the country remain at low-income level. The Peruvian government is currently working this.
Now, one thing to keep in mind is that this Lorenz curve doesn’t tell you the wealth level of that country or how much millions an individual has. This means that a society could have a perfect income equality or perfect income inequality. But,

In the United States there are four social classes : the upper class, the middle class, the working class, and the lower class. As reported in the 1997 Center on Budget's analysis , the wealthiest one percent of Americans ( 2.6 million people) received as much after-tax income in 1994 as the bottom 35 percent of the population combined (88 million people). Income inequality in the United States has increased and decreased throughout history, but in the recent years, the widening gap has become a serious issue. Income inequality is usually measured by Gini coefficient. According to this method coefficient varies between 0 and 100; while 0 represents complete equality (income is distributed equally among all the population of the country), 100 represents complete inequality (only one person receives all the country’s income, while the rest of the population receives nothing). According to the Census of Bureau, the official Gini coefficient in the U.S. was 46.9 in 2010. This is way higher than the all-time low coefficient of 38.6 set in 1968 (qtd. in Babones).

Income inequality is a big ongoing problem in the United States. It has a big effect on what America was all about, the American dream. The American dream that everyone is equal and has equal opportunities. Although a big part of what goes on in the Untied States that just doesn’t fit the American dream; women are unequal in the work place. They are put under what is known as the “Glass Ceiling”. Women do not get promoted in the work place and aren’t getting equal pay as men. This also leads to wag gap between the men and women. Both create income inequality for women and affect their American Dream. There is a long history of women having to deal with the “Glass Ceiling”. Over time woman have made progress but more progress is needed to make things equal. Women suffer from income inequality because of the “Glass Ceiling” and wag gap, thus going against the American Dream.
Inequality as previously mentioned is a subject that gets debated when brought up and in any debate there is two sides. In class we have discussed both side of the story of inequality, and it has give me a better perspectives of income inequality. Thomas Jefferson once said, “The small landholders are the most precious part of a state.” Today that would mean that the middle class is the most important part of our society, however, the farther we move into the future the weaker the middle class becomes (Krugman, 587). The America that we live in is unequal in income and social aspects. The rich do not live the same lives as those that are less fortunate, and the less fortunate do not get to enjoy the perks that come with the lives of the rich people.
America 's economy is dependent on the middle class. Slowly, the middle class is beginning to decrease. Soon enough there will be only the wealthy and the poor. Economic inequality is the gap between the upper class and the lower class. It is a problem that is growing everyday. Technology, education, race, gender, and globalization are the main causes of economic inequality. Each one of these causes contributes to the vicious cycle of economic inequality. Inequality is known as the instance or condition of being unequal (Anon., 2003), therefore saying that inequality is when there are differences and when this is linked with the worldwide financial crisis, ‘it draws great attention to the world of the super-rich and the increases in inequality since 1980, which is returning the country back to a degree of inequality which was last seen around 1929 or maybe even 1913’ (Morrill, 2008). This demonstrates that inequality has been an increasing problem, but should this inequality affect us and affect us in the terms of health disparity?
Social inequality is a major problem for the United States. Social inequality is the existence of unequal opportunities and rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group or society. This often affect minority groups such as, African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Middle Easterners. There are several agents that contributes to the existence of social inequality.
Not all countries have developed at the same rate and globally there is an unequal distribution of wealth. Most economically developed countries (MEDCs) cover only 20% of the world’s population but have 80% of the world’s wealth, and are located in the northern hemisphere and include countries like USA, Canada, Britain, Germany, Japan etc. the southern hemisphere with African countries, for example.
I agree with Moore’s and Ferrara’s article not all economies are wealthy and doesn’t justify equality, fairness and, opportunity in all countries. Joe Goodwin parker describes poverty in a completely different sense. Parker describes in detail the harsh reality of living inhumanly. Parker refers to poverty in horrible ways including” poverty is an acid that drips on pride until all pride is worn away.” And “poverty is getting up every morning from a dirt-and illness-stained mattress”. I assume parker was referring to people living in less fortunate countries, more than likely outside of the United States. She tells the side of poverty that most Americans don’t see. According to Joe Goodwin Parkers article poverty is not fair and opportunities are limited which makes seem that all odds are against you. She says the governments won’t help, there are no jobs, and not enough resources. If government economics would change giving all people their necessities, then opportunities for growth will be promoted not suppressed. In a poorer countries there is not enough recourses to go around and the opportunity for wealth is not given to everybody which seems unfair. Parker elaborates on the conditions they live though with immense detail leaving me in near disgust. In Parkers article, she shows a different perspective of what equality means. Income inequality is a big problem in the United States because the top, wealthiest American saw huge increases in their incomes, which the rest had their incomes go down. Bottom people do not have the same amount of money and the opportunity to move up the social ladder as the rich people do. In order to reduce income inequality, the government needs to tax the rich people more, and give poor people more money and more social services - education, food subsidies, health care.
