In Cold Blood should not be banned from students because it shows true crimes, and shows it in different perspectives of others. We can see the insight on how criminals had been or how they acted the way they did towards the victims. We can also see how the victims felt at the time of when the murder appeared.
First, in this case In Cold Blood should not be banned, but just restricted for a certain age. It is understandable for kids in high school to read them, but for kids in middle school and younger to read it is something they should not be reading yet. For a book to be banned or challenged someone must first challenge it. “Before a book becomes banned, someone must first challenge it. The American Library Association defines a challenge

as ‘an attempt to remove or restrict materials’” (book-banning). Although, even if a book gets banned or challenged they can remove it so it would not be considered banned or challenged anymore. Capote's book In Cold Blood should not have been banned or challenged because it is not letting the students see what is out in the real world. “When literature is banned it is basically leaving a gap in their education…” (Weebly). We do not get learned as much because of some of these books they limit our education to what we should only get learned instead of showing us what is out in the real world. With this being said this is why I believe books should not be banned or challenged just because they think the students should not read this. The summary of this book is how Perry and Dick came to Holcomb, Kansas to steal money from wealthy families and one of those was the Clutter family.
In fact, when they went into their home, they did not find anything that had a lot of value. What they expected to find was a big vault of cash, which led them to find nothing. Since this had led them to nothing they wished to find they were enraged and decided to kill the whole family. All family members had been killed, but the dad had gotten his throat slit open and a shot to the head as for the rest of the family they got shot to death. The only thing they left with was about fifty dollars and a few items. Therefore, this led both Dick and Perry to death row, and both of them eventually got …show more content…
hanged. My author Truman Capote's are known for “best travel writing of our time” (book). When Capote had first heard of this crime he was so interested in writing a book on it “Truman Capote was inspired to write his ‘nonfiction novel’ after seeing a brief report on the Clutter family murder in the New York Time in 1959” (magazine). Another reason as to why he also wanted to write this book is because when he found out there was quadruple murders it made him much more determined to write this book. It had taken his several years to get all the research on this murder with the help of friends. Truman went as far as interviewing the murders to make sure that the research done was correctly. In Cold Blood had been trying to get banned twice in the past already “mainly by parents because they viewed that their children are not mature enough to handle the content” (Weebly). As well as, the book getting “banned, reinstated in a English Advanced Placement class in Savannah (GA) after a parent complained that it contained sex violence, profanity”(Marshall). Parents did not like that their kids were reading this and knowing it was graphic and detailed “he slit Herb’s throat and shot him in the head” (Wikipedia). In the end, both times it tried to get banned it failed and they had rejected both. Therefore, these are the reasons as to why In Cold Blood should not be banned, but just restricted for a certain age. We see what is waiting out there for us in the real world, and how we see things from different perspectives of other humans whether they are the victim or murderer. By the end of the investigation, Dick and Perry were convicted of four counts of murder in the first degree. They were sentenced to death with the intent of hanging them. Lowell Lee Andrews, Ronnie York and James Latham joined Perry and Dick after 5 years on death row. April 14th, 1965, all these men were hung except for Dick in front of a crowd of witnesses. There was many appeals and allegations to mistrial with Dick that’s how he got off without being hung.

The novel the outsiders should be banned because it has violence things that happens in the novel. “But dally, heaters kill people’’,kill em with switchblades to, dontcha?” This quote states that the characters in the book are really dangerous. All this violence should not be told to kids, teens.
There are multiple reasons why a book can be banned or challenged. Book banning causes the removal of materials in schools and libraries due to “inappropriate” content. The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold, was banned due to sexual content and language.
The purity of a child is often tainted by the morbid realities in society. Unfortunately, there is no typical way that it is stolen. It can happen from movies, television shows, a regretful event, or a book. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, by Ken Kessey, is an example of such a book with its descriptions of systematic torture, sexual discrimination, and scrutinization of the mentally impaired. Furthermore, the book has been banned in multiple schools due to its graphic descriptions being deemed inappropriate for children. However is protecting the innocence of a child a justified exception of the First Amendment? Despite the First Amendment protecting freedom of speech, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest should be banned from school curriculums
With the thought that someone can be hurt by reading a book, people will try to challenge and ban them. To ban a book is to have it restricted from a certain age or audience. Banning and challenging books is trying to keep a certain book away from an audience due to sexual content, going against religious beliefs, language and vulgarity, violence, drugs, self-harm, racism, occult/satanic views, promoting gangs, and going against community standards. An argument from someone who believes books should not be banned is that it is important for the age group to learn about certain content and material as they grow up. Due to controversial content, the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald should be banned.
Freedom of expression is not limited to adults, minors too, have the right to freely express themselves and receive information. Therefore, minors have the right to read any materials they desire. By banning The Catcher In the Rye, and novels of the like, the rights of U.S. citizens are restricted. & nbsp; The novel, The Catcher In the Rye, should not be banned from inclusion in the literature courses taught at the high school level.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Harry Potter, by J.K. Rowlings, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hossenini, what do these books have in common? They are books on the American Library Association’s list of top 100 Banned/Challenged Books: 2000-2009. For various reasons, these books were found unsuitable for public audiences, and an attempt was made to ban them. From profanity to sexual content to homosexuality, groups have found reasons to challenge the books. Banning books that some people deem inappropriate from high school libraries underrates youthful intelligence, clouds history and dilutes our culture to fit a mold of conformity. Schools, even religiously affiliated ones, should focus on education and actually encouraging their students to read rather than inhibiting them from using their
Books are free like the birds with open wings, that will see light and dark. The one thing everyone should know is you can’t cage a free bird. In the school direct there has been a lot of books banned from examples of To Kill a Mockingbird to Where the Wild Things Are. Our schools should have the freedom to pick and choice want is read but shouldn’t the students get a say. With the long process of getting a book banned, why shouldn’t we make sure the students get a say. I have three reasons why The Call of The Wild shouldn’t be banned. Tho your opinion is different I would like to hear me out on this. My three logical reasons are that there is a good message,it’s great for school debates, and the journey the Buck goes on.
I personally believe that the story, To Kill a Mockingbird should not be banned in schools, and the story should be allowed in students’ curriculum. The first reason to why I believe this to be true would be the fact that it allows students the opportunity to learn about human mistakes and how to be better people in the future. A second reason would be that students are able to learn important parts of our history within the book. It also teaches students important morals that may be hard to teach without the context of a book such as this one.
There is a difference between banned books and challenged books. According to the American Library Association (ALA), “A challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or group (About banned, para. 2). A banned book is when a book or other reading material is removed from certain locations and not available. For example, one of the most challenged books in the 21st century is The Giver by Lois Lowry (100 Most). The novel, The Absolutely True Story of a Part-Time Indian by Sheman Alexie was banned in high school in Oregon because a parent complained that the book was offensive (Doyle, 3).
What does it mean to ban a book? A banned book is one that has been removed from the shelves of a library, bookstore, or classroom because of its controversial content. (About.com) Before banning, a book must be challenged. A challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or group. (About Banned And Challenged Books) A book is challenged when a person or group dislikes some of its content, and wishes to have it removed. Often times, it is banned for obscenities and is considered unsuited for the set age group, or any age group.
Banned books are books to which free access is not allowed. The practice of banning books is a method of book censorship, and often has political, religious or moral motivations. Catching fire the second book in the hunger games trilogy. The book is banned and I believe that is shouldn’t be banned. The reasons are it has excessive violence, causes nightmares in children, and some believe is anti-ethnic. I think Catching fire shouldn’t be banned because the book teaches a lesson to never give up. But high school students should be able to read the book because it’s very influential on young readers and gives readers that feeling that giving up is not an option and to keep pushing on.

The made for television film In Cold Blood is an attempt from the filmmakers to surpass the novel’s success and have already stagnated in the first attempt. The book it’s so well detailed and described that the image of the scenes and characters are fixed in the reader’s mind in an intense way that they will remember forever, finding not even necessary to watch the film. The moon was not so big and bright and in the film as it was described in the book in the night of the murder. All the tragedy that happened with Perry’s life was also set aside from the film, like in the day that his father pulled the trigger on Perry to end his life. Moreover, the style in which the book was wrote, divided in four chapters made the novel more exiting to read
