FIRE IN THE BLOOD an intricate tale of "medicine, monopoly and malice.” It tells the story of how Western pharmaceutical companies and governments aggressively blocked access to affordable AIDS drugs for the countries of Africa and the global south. It is a story of the famous companies to keep profits unconscionably high even at the expense of peoples' lives, and a plea for universal access to affordable, life-saving generic medicines. As it was cheap as compared to the branded drugs every people started using this drugs for their treatment and this straight away affected the sales of the big pharmaceutical companies. So GSK the big company used his dominance and stopped the usage of AZT in 2005 and created a monopoly in the field of life saving drugs. It was also clearly shown with the help of graphs and histograms that these companies spent only 1.3% of their revenue on research and development and rest on marketing and advertising. Moreover, in the movie it also showed that 88% of the researches have been funded by the government and rest by the companies. This shows the relationship between the company and government and how the government plays a crucial role in all these findings. In the documentary a lot of newspaper clippings have also been shown highlighting the problems faced by the people of Africa and also the ill practices of the companies. It attracted a huge population and it created awareness about the disease. This shows how media plays a vital role in such critical issues. In the film role of NGO has also been shown like giving orders in bulk deals and thus reducing the cost of generic drugs by $200 from $350 to $150. There were a lot of mass demonstrations against the practices of companies by the common people and the interest groups.
