When it comes to the topic of violent video games and toys should not be allowed, most of us would readily agree that they should be allowed. Where the agreement usually ends however, is on the question of how this violent video games and toys impact children in real life. Whereas some are convinced that they should not be allowed because this video games and toys turn children aggressive, others are convinced that they should be allowed as long as they have parental supervision since children use it as a way of entertainment, not as a way to hurt other people. According to the article Why guns can be good for kids by Petula Dvorak a columnist on the Washington Post, she says “Christmas of 2010, Daddy bought every male in the house a full Nerf arsenal. And they had the best Christmas morning ever, chasing each other up the stairs, down the hall, into the garden, through Grandma’s pansies. Pop! Pop! Pop!” (Dvorak). Basically she is saying that kids don’t see this violent games as a way of harming other people. They see it as a way of having fun. Many parents take away their kids toys because they don’t want their kids to become bad people, but having this type of toys and games won’t turn them into bad people. I must admit that violent video games and toys do teach kids how to act violent and how to be rewarder for the bad things they do in the games but kids must learn to tell the difference between violence in games and the violence in video games. According to the article Playing violent video games: good or bad? By Darcia Narvaez “The player practices violent behavior hundreds if not thousands of times, much more practice than normal activities receive. Whatever a person practices repeatedly becomes an automatic response. Violent games teach children how to behave like a criminal and to intentionally hurt others” (Narvaez). She is saying that children are learning how to be a criminal in video games but just because kids are being taught that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will use that in the real world and turn into a criminal. Some parents teach their kids to be honest and to be good people, the values that parents teach the kids are more important for kids then the ones that they learn from video games or somewhere
