What is ITS?
Is the application of advanced and emerging technologies (computer, sensor, control, communication and electronic devices) in transportation to save lives, time, money, energy, effort and the environment.
Intelligent Transportation systems include Information Technology and all types of communication in vehicles, between vehicles, between vehicles and fixed location, ITS is not for Road transport only it also include rail, water and air transport.
About ITS

traveler information system) and society?
Safety: ITS technologies can be used to smooth traffic flows and reduce accidents. Information provided through ITS can be used to direct traffic away from accidents and alert emergency services as soon as an incident occurs.
In Europe it reduce the fatal accident 25% in 10 years
Productivity; Congestion lowers productivity, causes flow-on delays in supply chains and increases the cost of business. ITS can increase productivity by finding innovative ways to increase the capacity of our current infrastructure.
Environmental Performance; ITS that reduce congestion and stop-start driving can also reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by around 30 per cent compared with normal driving conditions
Traveler information system:
Traveler information system reduced trip time, predict travel time, more safety for travelers. Good information is for any traveler using information program while the technologies enable a transportation agency to efficiently and effectively disseminate the information. Traveler information systems consist of those technologies used to provide updates on travel, traffic, and road conditions to motorists before and during their
Travelling across the country in an old Ford Model T would never be easy; but, traveling in a Model T on a bumpy dirt road with ruts and holes, almost unbearable. Thankfully, many advances in America’s roadway systems came about in the 1900s. Traveling from one city to another became not only quicker and easier, but also safer, thanks to the many innovations that roadways experienced over the last century. Many engineers put in a lot of time and effort to make these innovations and need to be accredited for their scientific achievements. However, getting to the roadway system that we take for granted today did not happen overnight. It took new technology and some brilliant minds to bring the pieces together to form the luxury of nice, smooth
... With the application of a national speed limit of fifty-five miles per hour. benefits are significant to the company. Driving at 55 conserves fuel and decreases the cost of travel. It is less dangerous and so lives would be saved.
The fast population growth rate of humans means that the necessity for transportation vehicles is also enormously increasing. Studies have shown that in 1999 the worldwide number of vehicles registered was 700 million. From this huge number of vehicles, the US has a
Nowadays, along with the development and increase of economic level, the automobile has become an essential and important transport. Also, it leads to another problem: traffic accidents. Over the last century, there have been more crashes in the U.S. than the number of the wars that Americans have been through. Therefore, people started to notice that they need the automobile safety to protect themselves. Over the last 100 years, the automobile safety has changed a lot to give out the best protection that we’re using today.
Before, The Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956, there was huge amounts of traffic in urban areas and the ludicrous amounts of traffic disappeared. The goal of the act was “to protect the vital interest of every citizen in a safe and adequate highway system” (National). Not only was the highway system that was created safe and adequate, it made it so almost every driver would reach their destination unscathed and made driving the main form of transportation. The Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 far exceeded the expectation of its effects and those positive repercussions are still felt
The daily stress of driving in traffic has increased due to more road construction projects. The drivers must slow down to merge into one lane or come to a complete stop due to heavy traffic. Aggressive drivers add to the trouble by using excessive speeds to merge at the last minute. More rear-end collisions occur because drivers don't like people cutting in front of them, so they follow too closely behind the vehicle ahead of them. Also, traffic jams cost the average city $900 million in lost work time and wasted fuel every year according to a Newswise article. In 2002, the urban traveler was stuck in traffic 46 hours a year. In large cities, 61-73 hours per year were lost to snarled traffic jams. In 54 urban areas, traffic jams increased 30 percent faster than roads could be built to alleviate them. The problem has worsened over the past decade in small, medium, and large cities according to the annual Urban Mobility Report.
After studying traffic flow model in CEE 310, it is interested to me. As a result, I research more information about the traffic congestion factors and traffic flow simulation model. The traffic flow could be investigated by observing traffic phenomena in real life traffic situations and understanding the traffic phenomena based on traffic flow system. It is the study of interaction between drivers, vehicles, and infrastructure. Understanding traffic flow models can aim developing a better road network with minimal traffic congestion problem and efficient movement of traffic.
...e traffic accident significantly. Beacuse it supplies a relative safty circumstance for the drivers. Broading the road, moving away some object on the both side and the arrangement of security guard are the specific measures for achieving our goals. As the causes are various, the solutions also divide into different part.
The development of urban transportation has not changed with the cities; cities have changed with transportation. This chapter offers an insight into the Past and the future of Urban transportation and is split up into a number of different sections. It includes a timeline of the different forms of transport innovations, starting from the earliest stages of urban transport, dating back to the omnibus (the first type of urban transportation) and working in a chronological order until eventually reaching the automobile. However, these changes in Urban transport did not happen for no reason. Different factors within society meant urban transport needed to evolve; points will be made on why society needed this evolution. In contrast I will observe the problems urban transport has caused in society as a result of its rapid progression. Taking account of both arguments for the evolution of urban transport, I will look at where it will go in the future.
Transportation is movement of people and goods from one location to another. Throughout history, the economic wealth and military power of a people or a nation have been closely tied to efficient methods of transportation. Transportation provides access to natural resources and promotes trade, allowing a nation to accumulate wealth and power. Transportation also allows the movement of soldiers, equipment, and supplies so that a nation can wage war.
We all use vehicles for transportation. People usually go to their desired destination either by driving their own cars or traveling in public transportation. Actually, it might be tough to choose that which one is the best selection for people to travel. Many people choose one of them according to their comfort while traveling and both of them have advantages and disadvantages in different conditions. Public transportation and driving own car both shares differences and similarities in many aspects, such as facility, cost, and comfort as well as traffic jam and accident occurrence.
The development of every nation hinges on the effectiveness of their transportation systems. Movement of goods, services and people to and from locations is made possible by transportation systems. The importance of effective transportation systems cannot be over-emphasized. Many countries face transportation problems and my country Ghana is no exception. A trip of about 30 minutes usually takes about an hour or more due to traffic jams. This is seriously impacting productivity and has become a topical issue in the country. The situation is the same in Uganda where I currently work. To this end, Transportation Engineers are needed to design roads/ highways that will stand the test of time, plan effective traffic management systems to reduce
It is important to follow all traffic laws to keep everyone safe on road. The amount of traffic accidents and losses drops significantly when people are obeying the rules on the road. Sometimes we forget what a big responsibility it is to drive carefully. Traffic laws are designed to protect you and other drivers on the streets. If we don’t follow them we are not only putting ourselves in risk but also other innocent people. By knowing the rules of the road, practicing good driving skills, you help play a vital role in preventing a crash. You will also be making the safety policies more effective. Many components play a major role in road safety including speed limits that are posted and making sure safety equipment is properly installed and used.
Road safety is one of the most important aspects of daily living. Our vehicle is our main transportation from one place to another. The number of car and motorcycle accidents seem to be increasing because of the many distractions, the lack of safety measures and judgment to road conditions and weather. Not being cautious increases the chances of not only injuring ourselves but hurting others as well. On the road, you see people talking on their cell phones or texting, eating, putting makeup on, changing the radio station, reading or using your GPS while driving. These are all distractions that endanger drivers, passengers and bystanders safety. Safe driving involves off-road precautionary measures such as making sure tires are properly inflated, testing windshield wipers, getting regular oil changes and tune-ups and adjusting the mirrors. All of these actions can help prevent an accident. Unfortunately, not all of us decide to wear our seat belts when driving or turn signal ligh...
Traffic congestion, is one of the major problems faced in the capitals and major cities in most countries. As with the increase in the growth rate, comes the growing demand for the use of transportation. This works with the response to the needs of the community.
