Siliguri Corridor: The Insecurity Within.
A passage or a corridor is a term that represents a connection between two or more spaces. It is this very feature (of connecting two places) of a tract of land that makes it so incredible in physical geography. In international relations, a corridor becomes significant not just because of the places it links but also because of the region that it is. Hence corridors demand and deserve a lot more attention than just those places that it attempts to unite. However, very often instead of focussing on the significance of the corridor, value is given to those two or more regions which are linked with the help of the former.
Concepts like security and insecurity are often associated with corridors. A corridor is never considered to be fully secure since most of the times it is surrounded by two or more external powers. This makes them vulnerable. Such is the case with the Siliguri Corridor in the North Eastern Region (NER) of India. It is a narrow strip of land in West Bengal which connects North East India to the rest of the country. The corridor is squeezed between two of India’s neighbours, namely, Nepal and Bangladesh and has a width of 13 to 25 miles.
The Siliguri Corridor, commonly known as the Chicken’s Neck (because of it’s shape), is a geographical deformity. It is often referred to as the ‘cartographic relic of the British decolonisation process. In trying to maintain the contiguity between Bengal and Assam after partition, the British demarcated the borders in such a manner that even today it is difficult to communicate between India’s North East and the rest of the country.
This unnatural barrier and distance has created a communication gap, both physical as well as psychologica...

...g. It is because of this opportunity that is given to every individual of a democratic state that people all over the world demand a government that will take care of the demands placed by them. The demand is thus for democracy as well as citizenship. It is also because of this reason that there are an increasing number of security concerns placed by each group before the government. However there are certain issues that are regarded to be of national concern by a government. In a country like India there is a lot of debate over what a national concern might constitute. This is mainly because of the existing diversity in the country and the corresponding claims made by every group of individual living in the country. Nevertheless it is perhaps in such diverse countries like India that some issues need national protection and the Siligur corridor is one such place.
The process of communication is brought into existence by a two-way channel, as there's one who listens (the receiver) the opposite talks (the sender). The prerequisite for a healthy communicative relationship starts with the ability to interact in a context of support, valuing, and within barrier limits of impartiality. The book is a therapeutic solution to helping foster better relationships; it uses the process of communication as an intervention for the journey of self-discovery.
Miscommunication is a struggle that lives within the world everyday. Being able to understand what another person is trying to convey is an essential part of the way humans interact with one another. When a message is not translated correctly from person to person conflict arises and heated battles rage within a relationship; whether it is a mother and daughter, or two quarreling lovers, or strangers upon the street. All humans are created differently, with diverse upbringings, perspectives, and mindsets. Particular forms of communications may mean different things to various people. When talking about the concept of miscommunications, one must also address the concept of communication itself.

This classic love story describes how people can change once they interact with other people. Moreover, this is an example of how human beings in general need interaction to be normal functioning citizens of society. Having relationships, can make a person feel better about him and can possibly revolutionize or emerge a personality that was quiescent due to lack of interaction. This video demonstrates many facets of interpersonal communication.

Art Spiegelman’s Maus offers readers a unique and powerful experience of a historical tragedy by exploring generational trauma through the victim’s perspective. The graphic novel follows the inhumanity experiences during World War 2 specific to Vladek, a survivor of the Holocaust. The concept of generational trauma stems from the victim’s personal experiences, written in the lines of the past and present, allowing Maus to have a powerful impact on the reader. The unique choice of interconnecting the past and present allows Maus to convey the profound and lasting impacts that the historical tragedy brought to its victims.
In a total of sixty years, 1919 – 1979, Afghanistan had altogether undergone three phases. During the first phase, the ties between Afghanistan and Great Britain were broken. Instead, the Afghanistan people would look towards the Soviet Union to stable them in times of need. Taking up his position, Nader Shah during the second phase had marked the dawn of the “closed borders era”. Natural resources, at this time of Afghanistan were being unearthed; proving to be a promising productive future. “Communication problems, beyond the obvious language differences, became a real barrier to honest dialogue”.
The most threatening conflict between Hindus and Muslims is the province of Kashmir. This is where the decision to divide India into India and Pakistan seems to have been a terrible mistake. Kashmir, which is the only Muslim majority city in India, lies between the divided India and Pakistan. After India’s independence in the 1940’s, Kashmir had to choose to either unite with India or Pakistan. The Prince of Kashmir chose India but Pakistan invaded the province soon after and have occupied part of Kashmir since then. Controversy still surrounds the province today because naturally, Muslims want to control it. While many Muslims relocated to Pakistan and the Hindus to India, half of the Muslim population was left in India and their relations did not improve after being partially separated.
The exposition of the film presents the citizens of India and the nationalism that brought about their state’s separation. The populations, despite religious and ethnic differences are exhibited living alongside one another, peacefully. In spite of this, as Lenny and Shanta’s journey plays out, the audience comes to understand that the state of India has come to be fragmented during the absence of European rule. Civilians within the country are segregated between Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs; with the differing populations calling for the recognition and definition of Pakistani and Indian
It was also a good place for farmers to grow crops which they could trade for money or other supplies they would need. Conquering India provide all, but a few with problems due to the surroundings. The Himalayans provided them with protect from invaders in the north while the Bay of Bengal & Arabian Sea assisted in the south. The Ganges River provided them with water for humans, animals, and irrigation of crops. The Burmese forest was also another good piece of protection because it was impossible to travel through with the tools they had at that. The Khyber Pass is probably the most important geological feature of India. This path has a long history of violence and invasion it was also an important trade route. Armies often the Khyber as an entry point for their invasions because it was one of the few entrances into the civilization. Alexander the Great used this path in order to invade India in 326 B.C.E

Several definitions of interpersonal communication exist however I believe that it is best defined as “A selective, systemic, unique, ongoing process of interaction between individuals who effect and build personal knowledge of each other and create shared meaning.” (Wood, 2002). I chose this definition because it included terms that are not included in other definitions. The inclusion of the word selective is important because it addresses the conscious effort that both people must make in order to achieve an interpersonal relationship. The definition also includes the word between which eludes to the fact that an interpersonal relationship belongs to both people involved. The last part of the definition that appeals to me is when it uses the words “effects” and “builds” I though that was important because it shows how an interpersonal relationship changes with ev...
Sixty years ago, the United Nations set out to distinguish the country to which the area including the valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal mountain range belonged. The UN suggested the region, called Kashmir, could either become part of India or Pakistan, or become independent. Naturally, India and Pakistan were both enthusiastically interested in acquiring the region. In the last six decades, India and Pakistan have fought three wars with the intentions of resolving the Kashmir conflict. In 1948, men from Pakistan invaded Kashmir to gain control of it. Kashmir, however, enlisted the help of India to protect them from the invasion. In exchange, the ruler granted India control of Kashmir. Since then, Kashmir has been a part
