1. Evaluate the importance of quality assurance in the assessment process. Quality assurance is important in assessment as it makes sure that assessment is carried out according to awarding body standards and it makes sure that learners are receiving quality assessment and the process followed by the centre is consistent and valid and is also fit for purpose. Quality assurance helps to uphold the credibility of the centre in the eyes of the awarding body, external customers as well as the Government, especially if the centre is receiving Government funding for their courses. I. Assessment templates and documents – Most centers will have a certain format that has been agreed and put in place for Assessors to use. For example, when planning assessment, there will be standardised forms for you to use to record assessment planning as well as feedbacks. II. Assessment methods – some centres would have standardised format in place for you to follow when assessing learners. This will usually tell you what methods to use to assess various units and what level of flexibility you are allowed as an Assessor to make changes where required. III. Evidence – some centres will have their own procedure in place when it comes to gathering evidence and making assessment decision. For example, some centres will require you as an Assessor to have not less than three direct observation sessions with your learner, anything less than 3 will not be acceptable. The assessor will then have the opportunity to discuss and hopefully resolve the query. If the complaint is about the assessor or a judgement made by the assessor and the learner does not feel it is possible to discuss the matter with the assessor then the formal first stage is for the learner to complete a “disputes and appeals” form that should be sent to the internal moderator. The form will detail the reason for complaint or concern and be supported by appropriate evidence such as a piece of assessed work. The process is set within a standard time frame and the learner will be notified along the route of the process. If the learner is still not happy with the outcome they have a rightof appeal and can forward their complaint to the centre, to the Lead Quality Assurance co-ordinator or an appeals panel. The literature regarding assessment, communication and interpersonal skills is vast and extensive. Upon reading a small amount of the vast literature available, the student was able to analyse the OSCE and look at how badly this situation was handled. However, although I felt at the time that I did not communicate effectively (due to anxiety), it was found on reflection and reading literature that I did do something positive.

Quality assessment is a measurement of quality against an establish standard (Shi & Singh, 2015). The measurement of quality includes the process of describing how quality is determined, identification of specific indicators to be measured, and collection of data for the measurement, statistical analysis, and explanation of the results (Shi & Singh, 2015). Quality assurance is included with quality assurance and is the process of implementing quality through continuous assessment and using the results from the assessments for continuous improvement (Shi & Singh, 2015).
Teachers gather information everyday form student’s through classroom activities to get a picture of where a student’s progress and abilities are. There are many different ways to collect a child’s artifacts such as using a checklist, anecdotal notes, teacher reflections, video and audio recordings, and work samples. Each student has their own folder where all their notes, videos, recordings, and artifacts are kept. As stated in the text (Enz, 2014, p. 207, “They must systematically collect, store, organize, and analyze the samples in order to understand the children’s growth and to plan their next teaching” (Ackerman & Coley, 2012). I learned that an on-demand assessment is more like an annual physical checkup. On demand assessments happen at specific times during the course of the year. One day children will be asked to do something specific such as circle the numbers the teacher says out loud, or having to take a test with a pencil and paper. Some label on -demand assessments as tests. This is because children are asked to perform the same action at the same time and in the same manner during an on-demand assessment. “Standardized tests are administered, scored, and interpreted in the same way for all test takers” (Enz, 2014, p. 208). It is important that teachers give children a fair chance to show their knowledge when assessing. “The purpose of assessment is to provide feedback that can be used to improve student performance” ( Orange 2000). Teachers assess children to ensure that they are understanding the material, and to make sure they are learning. For young children especially tests should never be the only criteria of assessment. Instructors should always make sure that their assessment is fair. When testing a child, make sure that the testing method used is appropriate for that child. For example, if giving a test that relies on visual aids to administer the test it is important that the teacher is certain that all the children have good enough vision to clearly see the aids.
