Why I Am Pursuing a Career in Architecture An Architect is responsible for using math and physics to design buildings that will be structurally secure for anyone inside. The education that is required to receive a degree in Architecture is math based, and that is very exciting to me. Along with math, a great amount of creativity and knowledge of the art that is involved in building design is necessary to excel in this field. I love math and I excel in it, and I want to use my knowledge to contribute to the construction of buildings that will benefit society. I want to become an Architect because of the everyday math and creativity that are major necessities in the field. I will be able to choose whatever work environment will benefit me the most, along with whatever work environment will help me achieve my goals concerning my profession. Cary Sweat said, “The work environment depends on the office, and the personalities in the office. Some places are very design and work oriented, while others are family oriented and much more relaxed. Some places I have worked in, I have had to spend the night in the office in order to get my work done on time”. The options between working for a firm that is very work oriented or family oriented is important to me. My wants and needs fort a work environment will change depending on the time in my life I am in when it is time to pursue an actual job. This is comforting to know there are options on opposite side of the spectrum. Architecture offers many opportunities for advancement which is vital in staying motivated to produce better and better work. According to Cary Sweat, “Fresh out school as a new graduate, you can expect to make roughly $30,000 to $35,000 a year. As you move up, middle management in a firm will usually offer around $80,000 a year. Next you have your office managers, these people usually make easily over $150,000 a year. Then you have the Frank Gary’s of the world, who make millions a year. However, he is one of the superstars of the architectural world”. With the opportunities to advance based on my individual ability, I will definitely be motivated to better myself in my work. This is very important to me, because it should keep me from growing bored or frustrated with little pay and the same responsibilities. This is another reason I want to be an Architect. I will always have something to work towards. Along with money being a plus side to Architecture, having hands on experience during my education in the field is also an important part of choosing this
