However, not anyone has a budget that allows them to buy an industrial-quality dress form. So if you want to have a professional dress form, but can’t afford to spend a fortune on it, then you need to know that there are other options that allow you to enjoy a quality form. You can look for a used professional dress form, which you can find online. You may find a retailer that is going out of business and wants to sell their form. Or you may find a mannequin liquidator who acquires used forms and sell them. Although some of them may not be in an excellent condition, their advantage is the price – you can even get such forms for fifty percent or more off their normal retail price. Another good option is to buy a “generic” brand dress form. Although they are not really of the same quality as a professional dress form, they are still soft enough for pinning. One of their downsides is that they won’t have all the features of a professional form, so they might not be on a cast iron base with wheels, they may not have a neck cap, or they may not be adjustable. Is a professional dress form a must-have for
My garment is an eighties inspired, lavender formal gown. I am able to identify this by one major factor, and that was its off-the-shoulder, puffy sleeves. This was a major staple of eighties formal wear. It had a metal zipper down the back, and no buttons, also confirming that it was from a more recent period. The dress had a straight silhouette, was fitted at the waist, and had no shaping. Although there was no shaping, there were seams that supported the shape of the breast area. The

Many business leaders have come to realize that the nonverbal signals sent by casual dress, conflict with the image the company is attempting to portray. A trend that was seeing more and more companies opting for casual dress, now has companies considering a complete withdraw from this popular business fashion. Companies will need to completely overhaul their dress codes if casual dress is to survive.
Women in this period wore dresses, formally known as gowns, or skirts for daily activities and formal occasions. The gowns of the sixteenth century are considered the most beautiful gowns of any era (Pendergast & Pendergast 469). The styles changed from year to year, but the basic style of a tight-fitting upper body and a full skirt that reached one’s ankles remained (Hanson). Females of the lower class wore less tight undergarments because they ...
Since its establishment in the mid nineteenth century, haute couture has not only served as a symbol of status and convention for the imperial court and “high society”, but the underlaying foundation of the burgeoning production, consumption and dissemination of fashion. In 1858, the creation of the House of Worth, along with the faithful support of Princess Pauline von Metternich and Empress Eugénie, positioned Paris as the leading capital of fashion. The initial production of copies of the Empress’ couture dresses flourished as the Parisienne style circulated around Europe, followed by America, which prompted the development of ready to wear fashions. Although the popularity of haute couture was not sustained until the modern day, the works produced from labour intensive and time consuming tasks have continuously influenced the fashion of nowadays. Particular traditions of haute couture, such as the concept of showing garments on live models has developed into a norm, and have majorly impacted upon the consumption, production methods and circulation of fashion.

However, that amount of clothing would be a little too much for our society today. Nowadays the style in which one dresses can inform a stranger of that person's occupation just as it did back then. For example, a man or woman dressed in a suit can be taken as a business man or woman just as a man or woman dressed in old raggedy clothing, and looks themselves rugged and crude, can easily be taken as a modern peasant. Likewise, students dress much differently than adults. One can easily tell when they are approaching, from afar, a college or High School student based on their clothing. Therefore, clothing has a language of its own, a code of rules tha...
To begin with, I will look at each of the two subjects. Fashion is an extremely large subject with many sub-categories and can mean many different things, however in this essay I will take fashion to mean the popular clothing style. I will put emphasis on looking at high fashion as these are the leaders of their field. Fashion itself though, is not to be confused with clothing. Clothing is a part of fashion, but it is predominantly purely functional, for protection from different aspects of the environment. Fashion however, is primarily for image. It is a way to present individuality and personality. A physical mouldable form of expression. Designers wish to create works of art that can be worn, and this is wear clothing becomes an art form.
Therefore, in an attempt to both show the gravitas of fashion’s impact and justify its mirroring of times and therefore society, a walkthrough of fashion throughout history and its adaptation is exceedingly appropriate. To begin with, Britain’s Industrial Revolution in the 1850s to 1900s came with the introduction of sewing machines and chemical dyes. However, this movement of clothe manufacturing rendered its availability strictly to the opulent. This is a direct relation to the economical situation of the time, showing that people’s expenses were not directed towards the most up to date fashion i.e. luxury products but rather necessities indicating a slowly developing economy. As we move from the 1900s to the mid 1920s, the inception of the First World War influenced the need for more ‘practical’ garments. To illustrate, one of the greatest designers of the century Paul Poiret, designed his garments in a style known as the Directoire. His dresses were simple straight tube sheaths defining simplicity and exemplifying both the political and economic situation of the times justifying the necessity for a free moving design in clothing. Why adopt the notion of simplicity and free moving garments? Women had to leave their traditional domestic roles and become part of the working class or work force and adopt and replace many roles that were normally given to men. Furthermore, the Great Depression in the 1930s comes to play its own role in fashion history further pushing the necessity for a fashion to be translated to accustom a busier lifestyle. This created an economic gap between the rich and the poor. Therefore, fashion in the 1940s in the substantial sense portrayed the necessity for work and socioeconomic background and furthermore encased the economic situation where, as previous times in the 1900s, high-end fashion was restricted to the rich. Following a chronological timeline comes the
Historically, multiple styles of dressing have been created during the last several decades, which played an important role in modern fashion in the UK. Everyone has a different and unique dressing style in their general life. Some styles are influenced in vintage styles which is attributing to the deep effects of old vogue, and another group of dressing styles are inclined into the fresh element. According to those different styles some of them are even evolved in the milestones in fashion history.

Clothing has been around for thousands of years; almost as long as the modern human has. At first, it served the practical purpose of protection from the elements; but, as life for early humans stopped being a constant struggle to survive, they started noticing how they looked and the concept of fashion began to take shape. These first few garments were typically dyed draped cloth that was pinned at the shoulder and/or waist. This was seen in many ancient civilizations around the world, Greek and Roman the most notable. Over time, clothing began to get more and more complex and formed to the body’s shape, eventually leading up to the tailored style we now have today. However, the sophisticated world of Haute Couture; or high fashion, can distinctly trace its roots to Paris during the mid-19th century. Clothing from there was thought to be superior to those from anywhere else, and women began to come from all over Europe just to buy dresses. This was probably due in part to one notable dressm...
