Physical development is important because it includes movement skills, gross motor skills and fine motor skills. It is important that we provide space for the children and the support they need to be able to progress in their physical development. By 6 months a child will be able to turn their head to familiar sounds, look and reach for objects and smile at familiar faces and voices. From 6 months to a year a child will progress and move from sitting with support to sitting alone, they will begin to roll over from their tummy to their back and start beginning to move either crawling or shuffling and they will start to turn to face you when their name is called. At 2-3 years they will be able to pour liquids and be able to kick a ball and they will also be able to draw circular scribbles with a pencil. At 3-7 years they will be able to jump with their feet together walk up and down the stairs and they will start to climb with confidence and they will be able to thread beads onto a piece of string. By 7-12 years they are able to run, jump, skip and swing and they start to enjoy team games involving other children. When the children hit 12-19 years, boys usually start later then girls. At this age boys are starting to develop their deep voices, body hair and muscle growth. However girls start earlier, their body parts start to form quite early on and will be close to reaching their full adult height. Teenage girls will start to discover their periods which will also develop their mood swings and physical development such as weight change and achney.

Each of the aspects of development link together for example, if a child has a problem with communication this could result in having other problems in their social, emotion and bahviour development this is because they may not be able to communicate with other children such as if a child does not want to play with anyone and someone comes and joins in the child may get frustrated and start hitting or biting another child. Physical development can also link in with the social emotional and bahviour development because if a parent does everything for that child they may not know what to do or they may expect you to do it for them so this means that their physical development isn’t at the mark they should be. So, when thinking about early childhood education, the one detail that comes to mind is development. Emotional-social development is one aspect of development that is greatly influenced by factors in the environment and the experiences a child has. Early childhood reveals a distinctive opportunity for the foundation of healthy development and a time of immense growth and of helplessness. In early childhood, children begin to learn what causes emotions and begin noticing others reactions to these feelings. They begin to learn to manage and control their feelings of self-regulation.
In the first three months, the development begins. As a newborn, we are completely dependant on others, but the baby has many skills that are imperative in order to communicate. We have a cry, reflexes, and brain capable to recognize routine. In the social aspect, we stare at who is feeding us and enjoy baths and other routine activities, and we begin to smile. Physically, our legs are not strong enough to hold any weight. We can something such as rattle, but cannot at it simultaneously. Also, we can hold our head by ourselves. On an emotional sense, we would quiet to the sound of a familiar voice and show excitement when handled and distress to loud noises. On language, the baby would stop crying to the sound of a rattle, turn our head to any sound, and make noise when happy. Intellectually, we are very alert and will follow with our eyes and we love to play with our hands. In only three months we have learned so many different truths about ourselves, our family, and our surroundings.
Physical and motor development are two similar but different areas that describe child development. Physical development encompasses all of the various changes a child's body goes through. Those changes include height, weight, and brain development. Motor development is the development of control over the body. This control would involve developing reflexes such as blinking, large motor skills like walking, and fine motor skills like manipulating their fingers to pick up small objects like Cheerios. It is important to objectively study physical and motor development in children to gain knowledge on what characteristics are considered typical for each age and stage of development. This will enable me to be aware of when a child or children are developing at an irregular pace, and devise recommendations or find experiences and other resources that can aid in stimulating their development and to work towards closing achievement gaps. This particular assignment was to observe the selected child and reaffirm the importance of studying physical and motor development, and to develop ideas on how to involve it in my work as an early childhood professional.

From preschool into early elementary school, children have begun to develop their gross motor skills. All aspects of a child's development may be affected by many different factors, including a poor learning environment, lack of social interaction, cultural background differences, abuse, and loss of a parent. Specific milestones in my physical development that were late are, rolling over, sitting, crawling, standing, and walking. I did not roll over on my own until I was about six months old and sitting on my own occurred about a month later. It was not until ten months of age that I began to crawl, and I did not walk until I was about fourteen months. The normal development for infants is to be rolling over at about three months, sitting at approximately five and a half months, crawling at around six to seven months and walking at around twelve months (Feldman, 2014).
