HOW TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY IN MATERIAL HANDLING Mohamad Aiqal Aniqia, Fikri Ahmada, Muhammad Nazrina Student, School Of Business, Universiti Teknologi MARA Segamat, Johor Darul Ta’zim, Malaysiaa Abstract Material handling plays an important factor in moving, storage and the control of goods. It can also be said as the equipment used to handle the cargoes. Goods are different in types and shapes. Material handling is intrinsically associated with production flow. Material handling can be classified into two categories (1) Traditional; In traditional it is more towards using human power and is usually minimize since it depends on the capabilities of the human to handle the task. (2) Modern; in this category is it related more to using robotic …show more content…
The focus is on the methods, mechanical equipment, systems and related controls used to achieve these functions. Materials handling is intrinsically associated with production flow thus it has direct influence on transit time, resources usage and service levels. The most important thing in material handling is the eight RIGHTS of material handling. Firstly, use the right method. Right method refers to the right technique in handling the material based on its categories or type of goods. Secondly, it is to provide the right amount. Right amount refers to the right quantity to carry in one particular time. It is very important to carry a right amount in order to make sure the loading and unloading of process will run smoothly. Right amount also influence the type of material handling to be used to handle the particular goods. Thirdly, it is on the right material. Right material defines the right equipment to be used to handle particular cargoes. To maintain the quality of goods, operator must use the right equipment to reduce the damages on the goods during loading or …show more content…
Firstly, design feature is one of the groups of effectiveness material handling. Design features consists number of material handling equipment. Besides it also affect the path of material flow. An effective material flow path will reduces the total travelling time. The total traveling time consist of type of flow path which are unidirectional or bidirectional or combination. The traveling time also will be affected by the location of pick-up and delivery points. The transportation batch size number of parts in a unit of transportation load also include in design
In today’s operational management arena, there are certain expectations from a managerial aspect that must be met in order to be successful. A comprehensive look at the Space Age Furniture Company will show exactly what the Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) calculations are for this company at present time and then take the information given in order to properly suggest ways to improve the sub-assemblies. In addition, there will be an analysis on the trade-offs between the overtime and inventory costs. A calculation will be made on the new MRP that will improve the base MRP. This paper will also compare and contrast the types of production processing to include the job shop, batch, repetitive, or continuous, and determine which the primary mode of operation should be and exactly why. A detailed description on how management can keep track of the job status and location during production will also be addressed. Finally, there will be a recommendation on they type of changes that need to occur that will be beneficial to the company and at the same time add value to the customer. This paper will conclude with summary of the major points.
The most important stage of the value chain is inbound logistics, because they have the chance to build value in advance. Thus, the factors of this phase are considered to be upward action. In this case, logistics task including the goods received from suppliers cargo storage, loading and unloading and the inside of the transport of goods, and lay the product on the shelf. Tesco is trying to retain consumer choice, at the levels of the store, at the same time increase the efficiency of its distribution system. For damaged goods and products quality control program of the application, it provides less unfairly assume cost, company a great opportunity, therefore, to prevent these costs on to consumers by to potentially add value for the company.
More than 30,000 tonnes of paper continues to be reaching to lowland in port per annum. Most of this is often large cardboard and lightweight baggage of workplace paper that on the average...
Handling and storing materials involve assorted operations such as raising huge amounts of steel with a crane; driving a truck loaded with concrete blocks; carrying bags or materials physically;
Though, the concept of palletization has evolved over the last 105 years or so, it came into full time existence since World War II; when urgency of material movement across regions was top priority. Palletization was regarded as huge scope to help US armed forces to do more with less. Palletized loads could handle more goods with fewer resources, making them available for other purposes at the same time; it could also increase warehousing capacity & throughput. By the end of war, enormous advantages of palletization in material handling
As you can see today, in factories, production of goods takes place at a large scale; besides this, all over the world a large number of retail chains have been opening. Management of all the logistics was done manually initially but later on this started to become increasingly difficult to handle. It was due...

A material handling does not add to the value of the product as not a production process having a point in favor of materials handling is that it helps production. Therefore, it becomes unavoidable depending on the weight, volume and through put of materials. Nevertheless costs money, therefore a key task to eliminate or reduce it as much as possible. Herewith, some of anticipated mechanical/Mechatronics handling reduces the labor costs of manual handling of materials. Hence, SME's puts a huge demand for cost & energy effective materials handling that should be carefully designed to suit the application.
Develop an over-all flow plan of operations for efficient processing and materials handling. The best flow of work both horizontal and vertical and the integration of operations form the receipt of the raw materials to storage of finished goods are the objectives to be attained. Process charts. Machine load data, production rate desired. should be considered in drafting the plan.
Material handling system is an important equipment and in the design of an effective manufacturing design. One of the main tasks in material handling system design is the selection and setup involving apparatus, demanding comprehensive technical understanding along with methodical research. Material handling equipment selection is a very complex and tedious task. The main factors contributing to the complexity of the equipment selection problem is the constraints imposed by the facility and materials, a variety of disagreeing design and style requirements, anxiety inside functional environment, and some of equipment varieties in addition to designs accessible. In recent years, the equipment selection
My first interest in Supply Chain Management resulted from my experience. Ever since I was young, I wanted to understand not just the ‘how’ of Mechanical engineering problems, but also why machines worked at the fundamental level. In particular, I was interested in learning the application of experimental techniques and principles governing Physics to solve problems. Therefore, I found the pursuit of B.E. in Mechanical Engineering almost a necessity, given my need to satiate my curiosity to gain deeper knowledge of that area.
The introduction of machinery initiated the Industrial Revolution making factories an important way of life. The machinery in factories used the pow...
Materials engineering and computer engineering are two of the modern examples of industrial engineering. Industrial engineers have the challenge of incorporating today’s leading technological advances with the production of them in manufacturing facilities. Their purpose is to maximize output, while minimizing the costs for materials and production. This is why industrial engineers must have knowledge of product development, materials processing, optimization, queuing theory, production techniques, and engineering economy. Industrial engineers must have adequate skills in computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing.
As an outcome of the thesis, my professional interest on the issue associated with the development of logistics sector has been enhanced. Furthermore, I am planning to keep an eye on the sector to enhance my knowledge which will benefit me and the organization I work for.
