In order to live a long healthy life, it is important that one is aware of their eating habits now and as they age, because it will greatly impact their health and wellbeing. Therefore it is essential to follow and stick to a healthy eating pattern on a day to day basis. A primary source to avoiding widespread conditions like hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and cancer is having a well balanced and healthy diet. A child needs a healthy, balanced diet to achieve his or hers full growth potential. Nutrition also influences a child’s social and cognitive development. It is recommended that children accumulate and store nutrients to prepare them for their growth spurt, which is experienced during the adolescent stage. A child who is not eating properly, and is lacking the nutrients that is needed are at risk for health problems. The health problems a child is at risk for are obesity, tooth decay, and food sensitivities. To avoid these health problems such as obesity, it is recommended to limit energy-dense, nutrient-poor snack foods. Another obvious recommendation is to ensure that your child remains active, enduring physical activity, and limiting television time. Lastly it’s also best to stay away from fruit juices and avoid soft drinks. Avoiding drinks like that are important, because fruit juices and soft drinks have a ton of unnecessary sugars. Those fruit juices that are consider “healthy” usually contain more sugar in them than vitamins and antioxidants. Too much sugar can cause obesity, and can even effect a child’s dental health. Healthy eating during adolescents is very important as well as I mentioned previously. Many adolescents experience a growth spurt and an increase in appetite and need healthy foods to meet their growth needs. It is important that boys in their adolescent stage consume an average of 2,800 calories per day. And for girls in their adolescent stage it is necessary that they consume up to 2,200 calories per day. It is important that an adolescents diet consist of proteins like beef, chicken, turkey eggs. It is also necessary that they consume carbohydrates like rice bread, potato. Nutritionists recommend that complex carbohydrates make up 50%-60% of a teenagers caloric intake, says Healthchilderen.org. Healthychilderen.org also says fat
Nutritionism and Today’s Diet Nutritionism is the ideology that the nutritional value of a food is the sum of all its individual nutrients, vitamins, and other components. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consuming too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight.

Physical activity, and making smart choices with how much you consume and what you consume can expand your lifespan. Being aware of your body composition can help identify your risk classification, and it can help plan a way to avoid diseases. Just like too much body fat can be harmful to health, having too little fat can also be crucial to a person’s health. The goal should be to have a balanced calorie intake and physical activity (calorie in = calorie out) for a healthy lifestyle.
One of the reason’s why I felt my nutrition needed to changes is because nutrition is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle, the way that we eat and what foods we consume can have a huge impact on our everyday lives. Nutrition plays a huge role in multiple facets of a person’s life energy, health, skin, weight, confidence, and more making having a good control on your eating habits extremely important. How we eat over the years and what foods we routinely choose to eat can eventually have a lasting effect on use and what we consider to be most appealing and appetizing at any given moment.
