As previously discussed, students were involved in numerous activities throughout the retreat, that required students to use several of their capabilities to successfully participate in each activity. An interesting activity was decorating candles in a way that reflected us; this required me to critically evaluate my life and how I am progressing with it. Therefore, I was able to develop my critical and creative thinking capability through the retreat.
Additionally, there were several pages in the folio that mandated the students to reflect upon their lives and their long and short-term goals, and how they will achieve them. This required the students to deeply think about their goals and whether they are achieve or not, and how much effort they must put in to achieve. The students were required to collaborate with each other and respond and resolve all the problems that were encounter and give alternative endings to the situations. For me, this task was extremely problematic as the group members were all addressing different resolutions to the problems; however, each resolution had various flaws, which consequently required me to address the flaws of each resolution and present new resolutions. However, my resolutions had flaws and this process went on a cycle until an effective resolution was composed. Thus, allowing me to develop my communication
Throughout this course, I have experienced many different forms of personal growth, but I would say the two major areas were open-mindedness and research skills. Before this course, I alway thought my lifestyle was the correct way to live because it seemed to work very well for me. With the help of Creative Process and Dr. Vandevender I learned about what civic engagement is and how people can be a part of it. I learned that civic engagement is much more than just volunteering for a cause. This course helped me understand that I can be civically engaged through a computer screen as well as in the real world. Prior to this class I had minimal knowledge about street theater. Thanks to this class I learned about various types of street theater and how street theater can be used to distribute a message. I came into this quest course knowing very little about how people understand and engage in community life. When I reflect on myself in this course I really think about how it opens up one’s mind and inner self. Who would have thought that a course in such a short period of time could make you really think about life and the decisions and choices we make on a daily basis, or the idea of something so simple as why we are the way we are? This course makes you change your perspective on how you view others but especially on how you view yourself. It is almost like an unexpected journey of finding yourself.
In week 7 our seminar leader allocated us into smaller groups of six to work together, get together and to start preparing for the mock debate in week 9 and the debate in week 10. When we started to get alone with each other, it was seen that it is not going to be easy to achieve our goals, not just because in our group had a strong activist, reflector, theorist and pragmatist, but we also needed to face some solvable difficulties as our first meeting of the week was cancelled by problem like the lack of communication, miscommunication and the ability to listen to another.

It is very important to understand that in everyday communication we are either the speaker or listener and it’s important that we do those jobs as best we can in order to have a healthy communication relationship. The two topics I have chosen to reflect on are “Comfort of God” and “Worship”. These two topics are very near to my heart and this course has given me a deeper appreciation and understanding of both the comfort of God and the act of worship.
Through the completion of my graduate program in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, I have gained an immense amount of knowledge and a plethora of skills which I have used and found valuable in my seventh grade English classroom. In this course I experienced an important change in my beliefs about teaching; I came to understand that there are many different theories and methods that can be tailored to suit the teacher and the needs of the student. The readings, especially those from Lyons, G., Ford, M., & Arthur-Kelly, M. (2011), Groundwater-Smith, S., Ewing, R., & Le Cornu, R. (2007), and Whitton, D., Barker, K., Nosworthy, M., Sinclair, C., Nanlohy, P. (2010), have helped me to understand this in particular. In composing my essay about teaching methods and other themes, my learning was solidified, my knowledge deepened by my research and my writing skills honed.
The concept that we discussed throughout the semester that was most surprising to me was that of meditation. Coming into this class, I had a biased view of meditation. As a senior in high school, one of my teachers used to make us meditate every Friday for an hour during her class. As seniors, stressed about college applications and lack of sleep, we all thought that this was the perfect opportunity to take a nap during the school day. From my experiences with meditation in that class, I really didn’t believe that meditation was helpful in any way or served a purpose. After taking this class, however, I now understand that meditation is more than just sitting in one position for long periods of time.
In the college success strategies (COLL 101) class, we had explored various areas of future possibility. Throughout the quarter, We sketched out the big pictures of the future. We identified potential destination and explored the path to get there. In this reflection essay, I would like to talk about and reflect on personal development throughout the quarter.
Everyone has a different view on how they learn and learning itself. First starting in EXP 105, my understanding of learning was new knowledge and becoming wiser. Taking EXP 105 has truly increased my knowledge of what learning is and the process of it. As an educator, there is always room for reflection and growth. Being in this class has provided an opportunity for both. From my knowledge gained in this class I believe that I have become smarter and have learned how to implement different tool into my teaching as well as general life as a teacher.
