In the historical fiction novel, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor is about the Logan family, mainly focusing on the children and their struggles living in the Jim Crow Era. T.J is a bad friend and he does not deserve Stacey’s friendship. While Jeremy actually cares for Stacy and would not betray him, but on the other hand T.J will throw Stacey under the bus to save himself from punishment. Jeremy is both a better friend and a better person than T.J because and he actually gives Stacey things instead of taking them from him. Unlike T.J, Jeremy has not gotten Stacey into trouble. Lastly, even in the environment that Stacey and Jeremy are in with the Jim Crow laws being in place he still hangs out with Stacey, even if it means …show more content…
On page 155, it states, “Jeremy, who had heard, flushed a deep red and quickly handed Mama a small burlap bag, ‘I-I brung them for y’all.’ Mama took the bag. As she opened it, I peeped over her shoulder; the bag was full of nuts.” Contrastingly, T.J actually manipulated Stacey through making fun of him and having other people do it too. The text states, “Yes, ma'am, Mama,' Stacey answered, then went on hurriedly as Mama's eyes glittered with· rising anger. ‘The coat was too big for me and ... and T.J. said it made me look like ... like a preacher ... and he said since it fit him just right, he'd ... he'd …show more content…
slips out these cheat notes—me and Clarence here was sittin’ right behind him and T.J. and seen the whole thing.Stacey was sittin’ right side of T.J. and when he seen them notes, he motioned T.J. to put ’em away. At first T.J. wouldn’t do it, but then he seen Miz Logan startin’ toward ’em and he slipped Stacey the notes. Well, Stacey didn’t see Miz Logan comin’ when he took them notes, and by the time he saw her it was too late to get rid of ’em. Wasn’t nothin’ Miz Logan could do but whip him. Failed him too.” On top of being humiliated in front of his class since it was his mom that was whipping him, Stacey got failed since he was “cheating”. T.J. knew that the Logan kids would not go to the Wallace store so he went there to hide because Stacey was furious. In the text it states, “Stacey tore across the Wallace yard and, leaping high like a forest fox, fell upon T.J., knocking him down. The two boys rolled toward the road, each trying to keep the other’s back pinned to the ground, but then Stacey, who was stronger, gained the advantage and T.J., finding that he could not budge him, cried, “Hey, wait a minute, man, let me explain—” Stacey did not let him finish. Jumping up, he pulled T.J. up too and hit him squarely in the face.” T.J got Stacey so angry that he punched him, shortly after Mr. Morrisson caught them there and told the Logan kids to get into his wagon and gave Stacey a choice. I am reading the book Shooter by Walter Dean Myers. In my book the main character's name is Cameron Porter. He is a seventeen-year-old boy that attended a school called Madison High. There one of his closest companions Leonard, Len for short, has killed someone and maybe himself. I have only read about half of the book and only two of the five sections, so I don’t know exactly what led up to everything. But from what I’ve read, It seems like both Cameron and Len came from troubled backgrounds. Like both of Cameron’s parents are well off people and have lot’s of money but he doesn’t have a good relationship with his father because his father doesn’t treat him well and his mother doesn’t really notice him either. Cameron is bullied in school
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a movie based on the book by Mildred D. Taylor. It was released on June 2,1978 and has a runtime of an hour and 35 minutes. The target audience of this movie is mainly children and families, especially for those who have strong feelings about racism and injustice. In the movie, Cassie is the narrator and wants everyone to be treated fairly, even though she doesn’t yet understand the society that she lives in. Her brother, Stacey is gullible, but has a good heart and wants to do the right thing. The movie centers around the Logans, who are a determined family fighting for their rights. I believe the book is better than the movie because it describes all the events in much more detail than those pictured in the movie.
That was a very courageous thing to do because he could have easily told T.J., but he didn’t because he didn’t want T.J. to fail seventh grade again. Stacey is a great friend to T.J., but is T.J. a great friend of Stacey? When your friend is in need, should you help them or leave them to die? When T.J. was beaten up at Strawberry, he came to the Logan’s house because he had faith that they would help him. T.J. wanted help so badly he said,”Stacey, help me get home, he pleaded”

It takes courage to stand up for your convictions, especially if you know there will be consequences. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a novel by Mildred D. Taylor tells the story of a young girl named Cassie Logan. Cassie is a girl in 1933 who stands up for the rights of her family and friends. She proves her courage by standing up for her brother, Little Man, getting revenge on the bus full of white children, and standing up against Lillian Jean Simms. Cassie follows through with her convictions, knowing there may be consequences.
“There was a sinking feeling in my stomach and I felt as if the world had turned itself upside down with me in it” (Page 129, Taylor). The author, Mildred Taylor, of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry has triumphed on writing the book while delivering the painful message of how African Americans were treated in the times of the Great Depression. Cassie has encountered many difficulties when having to accept the way she was treated outdoors along with all the other African-Americans in her society. In the opening, Cassie, along with her siblings, has to collaborate with the complications the bus has caused, and fearing the night men afterward for discovering what they have done. As greed, selfishness, and racism caused misfortune to the Logan family and their land, they stand strong with pride and dignity, willing to do whatever it takes to keep what is most important to their eyes. However, matters only get more and more complex when a lynch mob is determined to lynch Mr. David Logan, Mr. Morrison, and Mr. Jamison along with T.J. the night of the immense incident. Since the story is told through the eyes of a little girl, Cassie reveals all her pain as well as her perspective and point of view of life. As one can see, Mildred Taylor applied the conflict to the story ever so professionally. She did a phenomenal job using a variety of techniques to make many themes fit perfectly within the story; she additionally applied the theme to the conflicts. In addition, the story was recounted through the eyes of the main character, Cassie, which will soon lose her innocence. Cassie’s point of view had a great impact on the marvelous story.
When TJ gets a trial, the Logan children are very happy because they think he will not be killed. Mama and Papa disagree because the jury will be entirely white. Mr. Jaminson does and excellent job defending TJ. He had experiments, such as putting a black stocking over his hand and showing it to Mrs. Barnett. He also had strong evidence that TJ did not commit the crime. At the end, TJ was found guilty, mostly because of the jury’s prejudice.
In both Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry and Mississippi Burning, the black people were tortured and tormented for no reason other than that they were black. The black families in the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry live in constant fear of the nightriders. The nightriders would kill a man for looking at them the wrong way in those days. It is for this reason that the black people tried to have as little to do with the white men as possible. In the book, Papa tries to explain to Stacey why it's not such a good idea to get involved with Jeremy. "We Logans don't have much to do with the white folks. You know why?" Papa says, " `Cause white folks mean trouble" p. 158. In Mississippi Burning, the FBI agent Mr. Anderson tries to explain to his partner how prejudice the white men of Mississippi are. In this movie, the members of the Ku Klux Klan kill black men because they stepped out of line. When trying to explain this to his partner, Mr. Anderson tells him " Down here, things are different; here, they believe that some things are worth killing for." He also tells how thirty years ago, a black man could be hung for stealing a watermelon. After all the bad things that the white man did to the black man, I wouldn't be surprised if they still didn't forgive us.
Have you ever been mistreated for being just you? Back in the 1930’s there was a Black household named the Logans, who all worked hard in order to pay taxes, their loan to the bank and to just survive daily life. This household faces many obstacles every day, but they never stop being a family and trying to protect what is theirs. “You ain’t never had to live on nobody’s place but your own and as I live and the family survives, you’ll never have to,” Papa tells Cassie (Taylor 7). Students in middle school should read Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor because it teaches life lessons, demonstrates hardships Blacks faced and is inspirational.
In this book, it shows examples of racial strife includes segregation, physical attacks and emotional abuse. The Logan family was treated indescribably. The book starts showing racial strife when the children of the black family has to go to a different school than the white children for that very reason. This book shows the way racism from the 1930’s and how much it’s changed compared to today. If we treated African Americans the same way starting in the 1930’s we wouldn’t have had so much commotion that we have today. In “Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry” the blacks were so segregated that they had to go to different schools, and they didn’t even have a bus to walk to schools which took an hour there and back.
"Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry" is about a young, black girl, Cassie Logan who tries to understand with her family, why the blacks are different to the whites. Cassie, the narrator leads us through all the disaster and trouble that her and her family have been through in relation with the white folks in Mississippi.
Friendship is one of the most important things in life, as S.E. Hinton says, “If you have two friends in your lifetime, you're lucky. If you have one good friend, you're more than lucky.” In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy and Johnny are good friends who help each other and have a lifetime friendship until Johnny dies.

He lacked proper parental support from his parents because they were always working. TJ’s parents didn’t really pay attention to TJ enough and that allowed him to get into a lot of trouble. TJ was ‘befriended’ by two older white boys, RW and Melvin. They only wanted to use TJ to help steal things. Melvin even said, “All right, TJ, we come down here like you asked. Now you come on into Strawberry with us like you promised.” TJ was forced by RW and Melvin to go with them to get the pearl handled pistol that he wanted and was blinded by how much he wanted it. RW and Melvin never planned on buying the pistol, they were going to steal it and money that Mr. Barnett
Friendship is the most wonderful relationship that anyone can have. Ideally a friend is a person who offers love and respect and will never leave or betray us. Friends can tell harsh truths when they must be told. There are four different types of friends: True friends, Convenient friends, Special interest friends, and historical friends. To have friendship is to have comfort. In times of crisis and depression, a friend is there to calm us and to help lift up our spirits.
