Culture is defined as a buildup of learning for generational groups of individuals within structured or nonstructural societies. Culture consists of the merge heritage of language and communications technique, health beliefs and health practices, rituals and customs, and religious beliefs and practices. Many things influence a culture such as environment, expectations of society, and the national origins. Culture shapes and defines who we are. It has its own identity and uniqueness.
Culture is also known as the way a person behaves individually in social groups. The way an individual learns, evaluates and behaves is according to specific values that are within a culture. Cultural perceptions and viewpoints provide the outlines or guides for shaping ones personal and shared values, individual beliefs, and lifetime process. Culture shapes us as individual it begins from the day we were born into this world. We learned from our parents what is wrong, and right.
Individuals always seem to seek spiritual beliefs when they are going through a difficult time in their lives. It is important to know cultural and spiritual nursing care because the nurse can provide effective care and not be prejudiced against an individual based on their culture. Other cultures are valuables so it is important for the nurse to recognize that. The nurse can relate to the clients values, beliefs, and moral judgments. This provides them with a sense of security when you provide care for them. Spiritual nursing doesn’t necessarily means religious beliefs. Being sensitive towards a client’s culture shows admiration and pride toward that individual. Many religions have a way of interacting with nursing care. Death and dying is viewed different by each cultural group some consider it to be a natural part of life, while others just believe when your time comes nothing can stop it. There are also different ways that people mourn after death. Some choose to express their emotions loudly others believe that the person is in a better place. In some cultures even separate children from death, they don’t permit them to see the dead body. Even some culture won’t allow pregnant women to see the dead body because of worry for the fetus. Many cultures also ban suicide. If the person does commit suicide they will not have a funeral. There are many factors that do into death and dying depending on the type of culture.
