Critical thinking in nursing process is a process by which the nurse with critical spirit can obtain, organize, and analyze information, apply it with experience in a real scenario and also make informed decisions (Potter & Perry).Critical thinking and its importance has been examined carefully through the years by many scholars, because it is an essential element in the nursing practice (Edwards,2007).Explanation and description from critical thinking scholars have coincided, making stress upon the three elements mentioned above. We observe that implementing and making decisions are the cornerstones of critical thinking in life in general and in the nursing practice in particular. Hence, critical thinking entails the thinking process, not just problem solving or decision making. We will study the importance of these elements.
When we speak of critical thinking we are referring to the possibility of obtaining, organizing and analyzing certain information about a fact or situation. If we focus on this first aspect of critical thinking, we realize its the importance of it, since human beings, throughout their lives, learn to relate to the world through their curiosity to know and understand their surroundings. The same applies to nursing practice, thus allowing the nurse to have an analytical open mind that through which objective and subjective data can be obtained from patients, their family and their environment, so helping to form a clear idea of target health that can focus on patient care .It is very important for this collection of patient data to be specific, realistic and objective. Is necessary that the nurse recognize what is relevant or not, what is normal or not, so she/he can identify several conclusions and at the end will choose the most feasible for the patient. In conclusion, nursing practice in critical thinking guarantees success in the health service and its importance lies on this. It is vital that nurses develop their skills to keep the organization during the nursing process. Additionally, nurses need to use their evidence-based research, analyze and diagnose exactly. To be good nurses need to develop highly developed thinking skills that lead us to deliver higher quality health care.

Around the 1960s, nursing educational leaders wanted to formulate a nursing theory that contained knowledge and basic principles to guide future nurses’ in their practice (Thorne, 2010, p.64). Thus, Jacqueline Fawcett introduced the metaparadigm of nursing. Metaparadigm “identifies the concepts central to the discipline without relating them to the assumptions of a particular world view” (MacIntyre & Mcdonald, 2014). Fawcett’s metaparadigm of nursing included concepts of person, environment, health, and nursing that were interrelated. The metaparadigm ultimately contributed to conceptual framework to guide nurses to perform critical thinking and the nursing process in everyday experiences in clinical settings.
What is not easily recognized is the fact that the very fabric of life is dependent on the ability to think properly and make good decisions. It is an essential part of the nursing care plan. The Deliberative Nursing Process consists of five stages: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. These stages focus on creating patient improvement or positive outcomes for patients (Wayne, 2014). The entire process is cyclical, individualized, and flexible, as you can determine whether to continue or modify the plan of care, or terminate the plan of care if the goals were achieved. All five steps are interrelated and depend on the accuracy of each of the preceding steps. The stages are collaborative as well. (In Fact, What Is It), Howard Gabennesch explains the importance of critical thinking by drawing attention to how its absence is responsible for societies many ills including, but not limited to, the calamity in Vietnam. Yet, at the end of his essay, Gabennesch also mentions that, despite “the societal benefits of critical thinking, at the individual level, uncritical thinking offers social and psychological rewards of its own.”(14). The nursing process is important to ensure quality care and to get the preferred outcome. In the nursing process, critical thinking is used to recognize the issue and come up with a logical solution to solving it. One important aspect of the nursing process is that the plan is not set in stone; it is meant to be manipulated in order to better suit the patient. Nurses must be able to think critically in order to recognize the issue, develop a way to correct it, and be able to communicate the issue to others. Throughout the nursing process, critical thinking is used to determine the best plan of care for a patient based on their diagnosis.
