The primary problem in our world that humans face in the 21st century is not being authentic in our day-to-day lives. Passing means when you are not who you really are which comes to my attention the whole thing about authenticity. Authenticity means the quality of being authentic or being real to his/her self. The question that arises to me is if authenticity and being genuine actually truly matter in life. People occasionally want to be a better version of themselves, and be authentic to oneself and others in their lives. They may also contend that it does not matter because people tend to wear masks to navigate throughout their daily lives. The reader may disagree that they can present themselves differently all the time, which will not be significant because people tend to wear masks. For the reason, that every day people are often seen as not being true to who they are, and it is part of the world, which people get accustomed to regularly. It is also equally significant in leaders, or someone you look up to in life. I strongly believe that being honest is an important aspect to being a leader. According to William Gardner in the eBook, Authentic Leadership Theory and Practice: Origins, Effects and Development, he suggests, “Authentic leadership is related to many different characteristics such as self-awareness, self-esteem, trustworthiness, integrity, respect for others, high emotional intelligence, transformational leadership, and other noble characteristics” (357-385). Gardner believes that there are characteristics in which you can show a person that you are an authentic leader. I believe that having leader characteristics will eventually show the leader’s authenticity. The leader’s honesty would stand out and people will eventually perceive the leader as a truthful and unique
