The Street by Ann Petry is a novel about a woman, Lutie Johnson, acclimatizing to the urban setting that surrounds her. Ann Petry establishes Lutie Johnson’s relationship to the urban setting through imagery and personification in order to convey the seriousness of the weather which overall, concludes Johnson’s experiences. In this literary work, imagery is used as it allows the reader to visually understand the ruthlessness of the wind which causes Lutie Johnston to desperately search for shelter.
