For my iconographic project, I chose images that symbolism things that I believe I am, while also being things that mean a lot to me. The picture I created manages to look nice while also being full of informative images I will describe.
According to Eric Jaffe, the moon is a symbol for a middle ground between dark and light. I chose to interpret this symbol as a categorization of a neutral good person, as I see myself, which means that I try to do the best for everyone. It is also a good kind of metaphor for how I feel like life is lived, with periods of bright light and darkness, quite like the phases of the moon.
Quite like my other interpretation of the moon is the reason I chose the night sky full of stars for my backdrop. The sky is

a great symbol for imagination, probably because of human stories of the reason that stars are in the sky and what kind of shapes they make. My imagination has always been a significant part of my life, from creating stories when I played alone to making classes feel more interesting and helping with assignments. Another reason for the night sky is that I am generally a night owl, I love being awake at night, being able to go outside and gaze at the stars. Along with the moon is the astrological sign for cancer painted in it. As my birthday is June 24 I am a cancer, with most of cancers traits fitting me well. Cancer’s symbol looks like a turned 69. I put it in the moon because the moon is the ruler planet of cancer. According to Cancer Zodiac Sign Cancer Horoscope cancers can be being caring, highly imaginative, sympathetic, family-oriented, but also moody, opinionated, manipulative, and insecure. This description matching me very well, almost too much some days, but it is interesting in its own way. Water is the ruling element of the cancer sign. Whether that matters or not, I have always had an affinity to water. For me being like water is how I interact with others, but this time it is more like an ebb and flow affect. Sometimes I retreat into my shell and ignore people to focus on myself, while other times I become almost extroverted, putting myself out there to approach others. Water is also seen as a calming element, and I see myself as a calm person usually. With my affinity to water I am also calmed down by being in or near bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, or pools. Trees are a common symbol for stability, which is the reason I knew I needed to include a tree, but I chose an ash tree for a more detailed symbol. According to Presley Love, ash trees are symbols of sacrifice, sensitivity, and higher awareness. Each description matching in its own way. I would sacrifice almost anything for my family and friends, I am a very sensitive person, and I tend to be highly aware of people’s emotion, though I have a hard time helping with them. The flowers at the base of my ash tree are forget-me-nots, which are self-explanatory in their symbolism.
I chose them for two reasons. One is that I am worried that I am not making enough of an impression on the world or people for them to remember me. The second reason is that within my life five people from my family have died and they were all very important to me, so the flowers are a kind of a vow that I will never forget them and how much they mean me.
Books are synonymous to wisdom and open books mean about the same as learning wisdom. I chose a book because I love to read. It manages also though that I came to college to learn more about everything, which is to show that my knowledge is still growing and my story is still continuing, which is the same to mean as learning wisdom, just learning the wisdom of life.
I included the quilt as my own nod to how much of a family-oriented person I am. In old books quilts are made for families. There are made by young girls for their hope chests and by mothers for sharing. I love my family to pieces and would do almost anything for them so a quilt seems like the perfect symbol of that for me. Also the quilt that I drew is almost identical to the only quilt I have ever made by myself, which I had included orange and green as my favorite colors but also the green for my love of nature and orange for leaves in the fall, which is my favorite
season. The helmet on the blanket is sign for my last name, Wilhelmi. According to Wilhelmi - Meaning of Wilhelmi it has a meaning of helmet and protection. Helmet was a lot easier to draw. But the protection goes back again to my willingness to do anything for my family. The angel wings and halo around the helmet is for my first name, Angelica. Angelica, which I have been told multiple times in my life, mean to be like an angel. It makes for a beautiful name and meaning but a lot to live up to in life.
Heritage in a family can be preserved in many different ways. Be it a diary written by your great great grandpa or a pot your grandma passed on to your mum who passed it on to you, nothing compares to the great comfort in understanding ones heritage especially when it involves the deep love and devotion of a strong mother. In the poem "My Mother Pieced Quilts" by Teresa Acosta and the short story "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker, both authors use imagery and figurative language to establish a quilt as a symbol for a mothers love of her children to illustrate their themes.
Symbols are displayed in both stories; the quilts in “Everyday Use” symbolize the memories of Mama’s family. The quilts are made of pieces of old clothing from Mama’s family. Each piece of the quilt represents that person and who they were. They are passed on to future generations along with stories of the ancestors’ past. The quilts represent pride of their ancestors’ struggles, where they came from and the fight to preserve their individuality. Unlike Dee, Mama and Maggie acknowledge their heritage from memories of their family members. Dee bases her heritage off ...
I found many of these quilts to carry the thought of love with them. They all represent people who are missed. One of the quilts that I observed had many meanings to it. It had pictures that meant believing in Jesus. They had a picture of a broken heart.
The quilts were pieced together by Mama, Grandma Dee, and Big Dee symbolizing a long line of relatives. The quilts made from scraps of dresses worn by Grandma Dee, Grandpa Jarrell’s Paisley shirts, and Great Grandpa Ezra’s Civil War uniform represented the family heritage and values, and had been promised to Mama to Maggie when she married. However, Dee does not understand the love put into the making of the quilts, neither does she understand the significance of the quilts as part of her family heritage. It is evident she does not understand the significance of the quilt, having been offered one when went away to college declaring them “as old-fashioned” and “out of style”. She does not care about the value of the quilts to her family, rather she sees it as a work of art, valuable as an African heritage but not as a family heirloom. She wants the quilts because they are handmade, not stitched with around the borders. She tells Mama, “Maggie can’t appreciate these quilts!... She’d probably be backward enough to put them to everyday use… But, they’re priceless!.. Maggie would put them on her the bed and in five years they’d be in rags. Less than that!” (317). The quilt signifies the family pride and history, which is important to Mama. She makes the decision to give the quilt to Maggie who will appreciate it more than Dee, to whom she says, “God knows I been saving ‘em for long enough with
This Starry night painting was created on a medium sized canvas, being 2′ 5″ x 3′ 0″. This oil painting is dominated by a moon and a star-filled night sky. This part of the artwork takes up three-quarters of the picture and appears turbulent, even distressed, with intense swirling patterns that seem to roll across the surface like waves. It is filled with bright orbs, including the crescent moon to the far right, and Venus, the morning star, to the left of center—surrounded by many circles of bright white and yellow light.
The subtle symbolism of light and dark means more than the broad explanation of happy and sad: “…from within there appeared, in the first place, like
A symbol is a mark, sign, or word that indicates, signifies, or is understood as representing an idea, object, or relationship. Symbols allow people to go beyond what is known or seen by creating linkages between otherwise very different concepts and experiences. All communication is achieved through the use of symbols. Symbols take the form of words, sounds, gestures, ideas or visual images and are used to convey other ideas and beliefs. A symbol is an energy evoking, and directing, agent. Symbolism that is something that stands for another, it can be place, object, or a person. Human cultures use symbols to express specific ideologies and social structures and to represent
The first thing that caught my attention was the simple idea of an image that appears when you call someone or if that person calls you. Not only does the picture paint a clearer image in your mind of who you
Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. Many things can be used as symbolism such as colors, symbols, and objects. Symbolism is used to give another meaning to a character, word, or object and give a deeper meaning to something. The color black is often symbolized as evil or death, while the color white is categorized as life and innocence. The Christian cross can also symbolize many things such as hope, faith, and forgiveness. Objects may also symbolize things such as a chain; it can mean union but can also mean isolation. These are just a few examples of symbolism there is a manifold of things that can have a dual meaning and you don’t know it.
An image can be used as a powerful symbol like our United States flag is a symbol of power. Or an image can be an abusive symbol like face paint in Lord of the Flies. Jack, the savages’ group leader, would put blood on his group members faces to show...
The white blossoms within the chrysanthemum show both beauty and independence. I grew up around various people who taught me to be elegant and have composure no matter who I am around. My Mom was one of the many people that taught me that it is important to surround yourself with people who see you for who you really are. That life lesson is important so that if new people come into my life they do not expect me to change. Another life lesson my mom taught me was how to acquire being independent and having responsibilities at a young age. My Mom often worked long hours and took night classes after work. While she was gone, I often was with my grandparents. I was around older people throughout my childhood which allowed me to become more self-reliant at a younger age than most children.
As a general rule, light is identified with good and safety, while darkness is associated with evil and danger. The sun sheds light and refuge on the good, while the darkness of night cloaks the personifications of evil and creates uncertainty and fear. This idea about light versus dark has been held as principal for years and years, and can be seen in various myths and stories throughout the ages. Vampires, creatures of evil, come out at night to hunt, but are burned by the sun. In greek mythology, Helios, the god of the sun, is a strong hero while Selene, goddess of the moon, is a seductress. God and Jesus are frequently depicted with the Sun, but what is depicted with the moon, other than cackling witches? The idea has reasonable foundations. Good, honest men ar...

The first task was to create my person. The name I chose was Lynn. That is my middle name. My very common first name was already being used. I chose the teddy bear icon for a couple of reasons. The first is that I like teddy bears. It also didnt give any indication of my physical appearance. Teddy bears often are perceived as cuddly and cute. That is the impression that I wanted people to have of me. The lack of a physical picture leaves the reader to rely on the description that I reveal to them. The reader can only make assumptions about me, based on what I allowed them to see of me. I left the description brief and vague.
By opening my perceptions to different viewpoints, it helps me create a more open style of writing. When I read different books, my biases are disappeared in such a way that it improves my writing. I am more knowledgeable to the different ideas that I did not know before I had read. This creates a more open-minded writing for a wider
