After reading chapter two of Hamlet 's Blackberry, I found many things to be interesting and true. I have never given much thought to how much I depend on my smart phone and how it can trigger certain thoughts and emotions. I think the author, William Powers did a wonderful job describing a simple incident with his mom when he called her because he was late to meet her. Powers went to further detail of the connection he felt and the reaction he received after the call as well as backed up his claim with reasoning and facts. The first thing that caught my attention was the simple idea of an image that appears when you call someone or if that person calls you. To create that connection between the reader and the writer, one must first know what background knowledge the reader has. For example, in the Hamlet 's Blackberry, the author 's aimed audience had knowledge of smart phones and modern technology or they would have not completely graph the device he described. Furthermore, as Linda Flowers had noted that a writer would try to change the reader in someway by persuaing them through logic, reasoning and personal experiences, which can be seen in William Power 's work. Furthermore, his works also shows how he adapt to the reader for them to understand him, thus keeping their attention and interest. I do however question if a cell phone can put in a category of spirituality as it is materialistic and man made. On the other, I believe this chapter was enjoyable was because it met the requirements suggested by Linda Flowers in her article "Writing for an Audience", as Williams Powers was able to connect on a personal level as well provide enough background information and content for a reader like me to easily

Throughout Shakespeare?s play, Hamlet, the main character, young Hamlet, is faced with the responsibility of attaining vengeance for his father?s murder. He decides to feign madness as part of his plan to gain the opportunity to kill Claudius. As the play progresses, his depiction of a madman becomes increasingly believable, and the characters around him react accordingly. However, through his inner thoughts and the apparent reasons for his actions, it is clear that he is not really mad and is simply an actor simulating insanity in order to fulfill his duty to his father.
