Europe’s highest computer and internet usage takes place in Iceland. According to the World Economic Forum, Iceland has one of the highest rates of social media and internet use in the world. Iceland has some of the newest technology and is a very social country. Digital media and the internet in general is a necessity in Iceland. The Icelandic parliament, in 2010, started a new media enterprise that protects free speech. Their goal was to make Iceland a safe haven for the presses, reporters, journalists and informers.
Since 1989, Iceland has been linked to the internet and it stands as one of the most connected countries in the world. It has a very high percentage of homes with internet access in Europe .The NORDUnet in Denmark first connected Iceland to the internet and a year later a line to NORDUnet in Sweden was made. The link was steadily upgraded.
The Nordic connection was improved in 1997, when ISnet made a straight connection to Teleglobe in Canada. The connection upgraded and improved when the line was relocated to New York in 1999. Broadband connections were operational in 1998 and in 2006 just under 90 percent of Icelandic households had internet access. The amount of households that have high speed internet has increased significantly in recent years. In 2007, Seltjarnes, an Icelandic city, became the first village/community in the world that has every citizen accessing fiber-optic internet service which is a method of transferring information from one place to another by directing rhythms of light through an optical fiber.
The fee of accessing the internet by computers and cellphones is reasonably priced: a basic internet subscription costs approximately $31, and a basic mobile phone connection approximately $5....

Evgeny Morozov’s article “Think again: The Internet” describes the expectations people had about the Internet when it first emerged. People expected the Internet to bring a new era of world peace and to shatter the world’s borders. In the author’s eyes, the actual transformation the Internet brought to the world was the simplification of communication, which is available to almost everyone and the emergence of online shopping. His opinion of the Internet is generally negative; he thinks that it is promoting national borders (his example is the access to free books in Norway, which is only available to people residing in Norway, because it is sponsored by the government), which he calls “Splinternet” (Morozov, E. 2010), and that is is killing foreign news due to cutbacks on foreign correspondents.

Part of the allure of the Internet has always been the anonymity it offers its users. As the Internet has grown however, causing capitalists and governments to enter the picture, the old rules are changing fast. E-commerce firms employ the latest technologies to track minute details on customer behavior. The FBI's Carnivore email-tracking system is being increasingly used to infringe on the privacy of netizens. Corporations now monitor their employees' web and email usage. In addition to these privacy infringements, Internet users are also having their use censored, as governments, corporations, and other institutions block access to certain sites. However, as technology can be used to wage war on personal freedoms, it can also be employed in the fight against censorship and invasion of privacy.
Furthermore, Clark has to drive an additional thirty miles to connect to the internet. The issue with finding sufficient internet access has been a constant battle for more than 10 years now. An article
With the invention of the internet we are able to express our opinions, our likes and dislikes, our everyday going-ons and so forth. Our freedom of expression is the envy of other countries and the reason that we are respected around the world.
The Internet is a global network connecting millions of personal, institutional and company computers. The number of computers used by the internet is growing rapidly. The United States is connected with over 100 countries worldwide and linked together to exchange of data, news and opinions. The Internet is decentralized design. This means that there isn't just one computer that stores all of the information from the Internet. There are many independent host servers located throughout the US and the world that store the information made available to the global Internet community.
The recent trend toward globalization in mass communications has had a drastic effect on the world. The amount of information available to anyone at the touch of a button is astounding. Things that are taken for granted in first world countries are hardly thought of in developing nations. Common realities like the Internet, instant international exchanges, and globalization are of no consequence in the day to day struggle to survive. This will change as more people gain access to the technology. In theory, the power of globalization and the information it provides can make people's lives easier, especially those living in third world countries. One nation where such dreams have the possibility of being realized is Bhutan. A small country in Southeast Asia, it has recently opened itself to the outside world. The advent of the Internet in Bhutan has tremendous potential. What will happen is hard to predict. The combination of Bhutan's unique culture, geographical location, and long history of isolation paired with the capabilities of mass media will make for an interesting ride.
The Internet has become a major tool for communication and access to information for over two and half billion people (Wright 121). Although Internet has become an unavoidable reality that is consuming our planet in a web of information. This process is being shaped by our actions and choices which ultimately drives us together (Deibert 11). Nowadays China has over 538 million netizens, the world’s largest online community (Feng & Guo 335).
The Internet has received a great deal of attention in the media lately due to its tremendous
